Thanks, lads. I'm retired as a blowhard amateur fansplainer. These days folks can get all the college lacrosse news and punditry they want from the web and social media.

But I do like that Pulver kid. ::whistle::

Robert is back. He's rebuilt. He's angry.

Lacrosse world, you have disappointed me for the last time.

The guy I think of when it comes to great Cornell athletes and tough season-ending injuries is guard Adam Gore, Ivy men's basketball Rookie of the Year in 2006ish (I think he broke Cornell's freshman scoring record). He tore an ACL in one knee early in his sophomore (?) season, then tore an ACL in his other knee early in his senior season. He could've been one of Cornell's best ever.

Two additional guys that I'd want to see on the list:

Ralph Cox, F, New Hampshire (went toe-to-toe with Nethery when they matched up, and that's saying something)
Ken Hammond, D, Rensselaer (best ECAC defenseman I ever saw)

I think the '74 men's jersey was designed by students too.

Quote from: TowerroadMeaning no disrespect to Ned, my dad '51 was a friend of his, but I don't thing looking for another Ned Harkness is the answer. Ned recruited heavily in Canada when the rest of the league did not. He was a visionary in that respect but I don't think there is a large pool of untapped football talent that will allow his doppelganger to tap and steal a march on the rest of the Ivy League.
Ned took a 4-7 lacrosse team, and without help from any recruiting on his part (freshmen were ineligible) turned them into a 12-0 team the following year.  If you think Ned's success came solely from recruiting, you simply don't understand.
Agreed. If you talk to some of the guys who played during that transitional time, they attribute a lot of the turnaround to attitude-bending cultural changes. One small example: A total freak for order, Ned insisted that the equipment staff lay out all the gear and attire in the locker room neatly in front of each locker -- every little thing, down to the socks.

Speaking of hot-shot Princeton freshman middies, look out for Tom Schreiber from St. Anthony's. With his talent and Chris Bates' offensive philosophies, that young man might be set up to have a freshman year like no Ivy midfielder we've ever seen. Barring injuries, I wouldn't be surprised to see him get more than 60 points.

Quote from: scoop85I have no idea if this site has any credibility, but check out projected picks 28 and 29 in the first round for this 2011 mock NHL draft.

Also see pick #70 -- one that got away

Holy crap, check out No. 90. Could that possibly be Dave Crombeen's son?

Quote from: RichHLaxPower's bracket has the Cornell-ND game as being the late (6:30 pm) game.

Looks like laxpower had it wrong. As of late this morning, the bracket at the NCAA's web site has Cornell-Notre Dame as the 4 p.m. game.

In the past, we've purchased tickets by phone directly from the Ravens ticket office at M&T Bank Stadium (410-261-7283).

Quote from: scoop85Who's Hogan?  He's not listed in the Laxpower database.
That would be John Hogan, a middie at St. Mary's (Annapolis, Md.). He's the son of Annapolis fixture Matt Hogan, who's wrapping up a nice run as coach of St. Mary's this year. People might remember him as coach at Pennsylvania for a year, a position he took after a long spell as an assistant at Navy.

Quote from: SwampySten Jernudd...plays for Team Sweden (I guess being named "Sten" makes you eligible).
That's a name that would make you eligible for Asgard, not just Team Sweden. Sten = stone; Jernudd = headland of iron.

Some pretty solid players among the 2011 freshmen. A few Cornell lacrosse legacies (Entenmann, Lintner) and children of coaches (Hogan), as usual. Also the usual Cornell trademark blend of recruits that are either too small or too off-the-beaten-path to merit fawning in Inside Lacrosse and the like. Glad to see some faceoff specialists too (McCormack, Tesoriero). Rudow, the middie from California, might emerge to be the gem of the class.

Quote from: billhowardStill wondering if BC is a home run?

The Boston College job is a 500' home run for someone like Donohue. Here's someone with a classic northeast suburban/urban Catholic background (Delaware County, Pennyslvania) who is offered a very big salary at one of the nation's premiere northeast suburban/urban Catholic institutions. And on top of that, it's in the nation's most iconic basketball conference. And we're debating whether it meets the definition of a home run?
