Starbucks is offering a free, tall cup of coffee on Election Day.  Just need to say you voted!

Not as major a mention, but on one episode of Law and Order: SVU (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0807685/), one of the suspects was said to be going to Cornell.  I think he was also supposed to have a full scholarship, but hey, it was a mention...

Yesterday (March 22, 2007) on "Ugly Betty," Alexis (Alex) Meade's new assistant said he went to Cornell.
I just noticed (on USCHO and confirmed by the Dartmouth Athletic site) that the game at Thompson has been moved back next Friday to 7:30pm.
If only PA wasn't such a large state, or I didn't have to TA a lab Friday morning...  I just might have been able to make it!

But I'll at least be at the Harvard game on Saturday with several others.

In tonight's episode (Jan 8), Ted was wearing the huggy bear shirt again.  Definitely has to be more than a coincidence now...
I missed that.  Too busy watching Robin, I guess.  ::dribble::

I sent an email to CBS/Barney's blog asking what the connection is.  No reply yet.
It was right at the beginning of the episode (Ted was killing a spider).
In one scene on last night's (12/11) show , Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) was sick in bed wearing a gray t-shirt with the Cornell Huggy Bear logo on it!

Anybody know what the connection is?
I wasn't sure if I was imagining that but I guess not :)
I was trying to figure out the connection, but so far no luck.

Thought: what about that game that Schafer was suspended for @ Yale. Could that be the difference?
Schafer has been suspended for other games that Cornell has won.
eg Vermont at Cornell in 2004 (I remember people in the townie sections sitting with pictures of Schafer on popsicle sticks)

For anyone stuck in the center of PA (AKA Penn State), I could host a viewing party in my apartment for the game.  Just let me know.
Dan Pegoraro was released from the Texas Wildcatters (ECHL) on 10 October.  It says he's eligible for waivers/waiver claims.

It looks like he's playing with Downs for the Mudbugs:

Hockey / Re: Sea of Red/White Out?
seeing all the white (watching on tv) at the Penn State vs Michigan football game recently was pretty impressive. Of course, 105,000 in Beaver Stadium is pretty impressive on its own.
In terms of getting the word out, last year before the Penn State/Ohio State football game, people had put white balloons all over campus saying to "white out Ohio State."

This year at PSU, they're selling official "White Out" shirts.  There was a contest for the design and then students were able to vote on which one they wanted.  Now those shirts are being sold all over campus.  That might help to generate more student support for wearing them.

Of course, buying the Lynah Faithful shirt should be considered the "red out" shirt.  I'm not sure why so many people are having a hard time wearing theirs to games...

There's a Phoenix Coyotes season preview online at NHL.com, with not the best mention of LeNeveu:

[Q]Phoenix's defense is better than last season, so look for Joseph's numbers to improve. The position has been made more competitive with the additions of Morrison and Sauve. The latter didn't do well in his late-season audition, but it's possible the conditions weren't right, getting a chance when all was lost. LeNeveu didn't shine in his opportunities last season, perhaps for similar reasons. Morrison was spectacular at times, unreliable at others. The three contenders for the backup position are at an age where another bad impression could foreclose their hopes to be NHL starters. Expect Gretzky to look for the hot hand if Joseph doesn't meet expectations.[/Q]

I just turned on the Sens/Pens game and although I haven't seen Vesce yet (#47) I have heard another familiar name mentioned a lot: Noah Welch.  The announcers really seem to love him.  ::yark::

Although the list isn't comprehensive, there's a story on NHL.com that talks about the Israeli Hockey Federation.

In their list of notable players, they mention everyone's favorite goalie: Sieve-Sieve. :-P
