Hockey / Re: 2025-26 Men's Schedule

Quote from: adamwOK - I was apparently mistaken.  I called some powers that be and confirmed that the Ivy League just recently approved a 30th game.  This replaces one of the exhibitions they had been allowing.  So, many teams just turned one of their exhibitions against another Ivy, into a "real" game.  Other schools actually found a 30th from outside the league.

Glad to see this happen since I've been saying for years it was ridiculous to allow 2 weekends of exhibitions, yet not allow more regular-season games, since they're the same demand on a player's schedule.  But, in typical Ivy fashion, this news was never released, and there's no mention of it on their web site.

I like the rule change, but I sure wish it had been made earlier and with some public indication that it had been made.

Princeton's press release announcing its 2025-26 schedule explicitly labels it a "30-game regular season slate"

I have observed that the Ivy men's hockey programs that have announced a schedule with 30 regular-season games (Harvard, Dartmouth, and Princeton) each play only one exhibition/scrimmage.

Quote from: stereaxDiGiulian didn't get drafted though, right?
Correct. In all likelihood, he is deeply disappointed not to have had his name called during the draft. Nevertheless, he will have more control over his post-college employment opportunities as an undrafted free agent.

Quote from: chimpfoodIt's nice that even though DiGiulian's reviews aren't too hopeful on his NHL potential, they think he'll be a nice college player. It's nice when we have guys in the NHL but anyone who can give us college production is very exciting. It's great to hear that the work rate is the best trait of a guy that was almost a point a game in the USHL.
When Doug Derraugh potted 30 goals his senior year (which was my freshman year), the goals didn't count any less because Doug wasn't an NHL prospect. And Doug didn't need to play any games in the NHL to embark on an extraordinarily successful professional career in hockey.

Quote from: arugulaTop pair guy on a very good team. Excellent.
Robertson replacement?
He looks more like a Douglas Murray replacement.

Our defense corps was beginning to tilt righthanded, and Luke Ashton will balance things out in this regard.

Quote from: arugulaFwiw these were all professional teams in the highest division in the countries with older players.  I noticed at least a few ex NHLers amongst their rosters.   So they were good opponents.

HC Sparta Praha ("I believe when you're speaking English, you're allowed to refer to it as Prague.") finished second in the Czech Extraliga (and lost in the semis) last year, so they're playing in the Champions Hockey League this season.  It seems a step up from Cornell's trip to Switzerland last decade, when they were playing clubs from the lower divisions.

I concur with JTW's assessment about the top-division pro teams. I wouldn't expect Cornell, Sparta Praha, Karlovy Vary, or Nitra to be at the top of its game in early- to mid-August, and they weren't. I wouldn't expect a good NCAA team to outplay teams from the Czech and Slovak elite leagues, and Cornell didn't. And that's fine. These quadrennial international trips are great experiences for the players, coaches, and staff.

Cornell's win was against college-aged Czech hockey prospects. That was a team Cornell should have outplayed, and it did,

Too bad Ondrej Psenicka couldn't play.
