Hockey / Re: Could Cornell be a host team?
March 16, 2009, 09:27:18 PM
More importantly, what can a small group of highly interested alums with no connection to the athletic department do to encourage Cornell to put together a bid?

Is it a money thing?  If we made it and the regional was in Syracuse, Binghamton, etc., attendance would be no issue and you'd pretty much guarantee a break even, if not an overall profit.

Given that playing in familiar territory is such a major boost to the chances of winning a national championship, I can't think of any reason that we haven't hosted in the last few decades.  It's our most visible sport, and like someone else mentioned, Yale can pull it off.  Hell, Canisius hosted the Frozen Four.

Who can I call to make it happen?

Dang.  They're still not offering shipping, are they?  If this weren't the most difficult time to get away from work, I'd be there myself.  Maybe next year.

Hockey / Re: Cornell/BU Thanksgiving (11/24) Ticket Info
November 17, 2007, 01:56:54 PM
Something is very wrong with this event.  No tickets left through official channels, yet none available secondhand (except for a few choice Stubhub listings).  I'd imagine there is a massive block still left to be released on day of or sooner.  New York craigslist shows about 15 people looking, maybe one selling.

What is a fan to do even the scalpers don't have any?

Hockey / Re: Reminder: Lynah East tix tomorrow AM

Just got back from Murr.  They announced it officially sold out at about 25 after 10.   On their screens, red means completely sold and yellow means it's in someone's shopping cart. There are undoubtedly going to be a few tickets available online as browser sessions crash and whatnot, but it looked like it was pretty full - 99.9% red.  What gets me is that there is no benefit to going there in person, they don't even have priority over the online system!  My SRO kept getting taken by online sales, and he had to go and grab another computer to override those who were trying to get my tickets.  What a mess.

Anyway, there were only 2 guys answering phones, and one on the window.  The downside is that it took from 9:40 until 10:30 to just go through the process for the 8 people in line (start application, select opponent, select section, click on little boxes, get the customer's name, credit card swipe, dial in for auth, print all the tickets, sign this, next).  I was the last one in the line there, and just got a few SRO.  No discount on the SROs for Harvard students either, bummer.

Hockey / Re: game-worn question

What time of year are they generally available?  The FAQ doesn't mention it, I always thought it was at the beginning of the season, around Red/White, but there have been a few posts lately about purchases made now.

If I can go the next time I'm in Ithaca, that would be good news.
Generally, they become available once the new jerseys arrive, and thus the old jerseys are no longer needed.  Unfortunately, when the new jerseys arrive in any given year is anyone's guess.  Ideally, it should probably be before the season begins, but at least in recent years (perhaps beyond that?), the team has been forced to use the old jerseys for the first few games of the new season.  Additionally, I think the players (and their mothers) get first crack at the jerseys when they become available.

Remember, the game-worn jerseys do NOT come with the nameplates, so make sure you know which numbered uniform(s) you're looking for before checking out the selection.
Thanks.  I'm not so concerned about getting a certain player's sweater (or even that it was worn in a game), I just like the cut and quality of the game worns better than anything available online.  So, with all this in mind, perhaps there will be an opportunity for me to swing by soon.

I had always heard that they sold out immediately, but I now have hope!

Hockey / Re: Noel's take on Fish

Is it remotely possible that the lunacy coming from Noel is actually not so much his fault as it is part of his job, part of some more ridiculous doctrine handed down from much higher up?  It certainly would suck if his job depended on being an asshole, then being called for it by hundreds of fans, right on national TV.
There are many, many things in this world that are done for the sake of covering your own ass, and his seems like one of those times.  If Ted Donato slips on some fish residue and decides to sue the department, the defense will hinge around "oh, didn't you see the emails we sent out, and how we ejected Bob and Jill who looked like they were about to make a throwing motion with their arm while saying 'socks' in the direction of Kyle Richter?  What else do you want us to do?".  Our legal system sponsors such theater as a way out.
If Ted Donato slips on his way to the bench, I'd imagine the defense would hinge around "you were walking on ice" and not all that other stuff.
Ok, so he trips over some fish residue.  Same argument.

Looks like it was so funny that they took their entire server offline.  Joke's on us.

Hockey / Re: Yale Roll Call
October 30, 2006, 12:18:54 PM
I'm sure this question gets asked every year, but does Yale typically sell tickets at the door?  I wouldn't want to drive the 3 1/2 and get shut out.

Got my pair for Brown already (they are GA this year after trying to assign seats for our group past seasons).

This is the only forum that I can think of that uses avatars justified against the right side, and floating in a gradient of red to grey.  Seems like they are literally hanging around in my posts.

Of course, that's if I get around to picking one.

The RBC Center is just a joke of a selection. I guess it was "tailgating" that kept the Hurricanes from selling out Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals. Certainly such devoted fans wouldn't miss out on a hockey experience like that  ::yark::
Don't forget about the Cup banner raising ceremony at the first game this year - great seats are always available at RBC.

Just got a return fax from the office - they did get me two SRO tickets - turns out ordering by fax kinda worked after all.  Mike over there was very nice, exceptionally nice actually.  He said I would have gotten seats if their fax machine was closer to their desks and they saw it sooner.

Just wanted to report back to everyone.  The phone never worked for me, calling between meetings this morning.  I did speak to them and they were joking about going to a lottery for us next year.
anyone not get tickets?  maybe post if you had been trying all day and didnt get any...someone is bound to have extras since everyone purchased 4
Judging by the phone still being busy - many haven't gotten through.  Myself included.  I tried ordering by fax in the middle of all this, but I doubt it will work...
