Well - what I tried to send previously was news that Michael Dec cleaned up at the St. Andrews College Hockey banquet.  
On the St. Andrews College Hockey twitter account / dated May 11, he won the following;

     1. Practice Champion Award - awarded to the member of the team who achieves the highest cumulative average in practice statistics during the current season.

     2. Offensive MVP - awarded to the player who leads the team in the offensive side of the game as the top point producer.

     3. Team MVP - awarded to the individual who is judged to be the most valuable member of the SAC 1st hockey team - voted on by players and staff.


Cornell is so good at identifying the guys who may not be considered blue chippers like the BU's, BC's, UND's, Michigan's all get yet they are always competitive.  A real credit to the coaching staff.  Michael Dec sounds like a great prospect that played some games with Owen Sound in the OHL last season and faired well.  I assume that he'll play there in 2025-'26.  He is an '07 and is scheduled to come to Ithaca in 2027.

Whoops - the after 2030 vote was me.  I answered too quickly and thought it was referring to the frozen four, not just making the tournament. I'd still stick with after 2030 for that but think we will be very competitive moving forward and could make the tournament as soon as next year.  Lake Placid is tough on Q and most other teams in the ECAC are dealing with some early departures or significant losses.

It is some random guy but I check Stanley Cup of Chowder daily right after looking through the elynah forum.  This guy is pretty dialed in with prospects, draft picks, free agents, etc.  I give his take a good amount of credibility though I hope he's wrong in this case.
I know Cornell loses a lot to graduation this year but if everyone returns combined with some excellent recruits (very excited about Veillieux and Pirtle) I think they'll be a contender in the ECAC once again.  (Goaltending is the obvious question mark next season).

My apologies - I'm not very tech savvy. Hopefully this link came through okay.  
I'm a Boston Bruins fan and was reading the Stanley Cup of Chowder fan forum.  Sounds like Dalton Bancroft is generating a lot of interest from pro teams. Seeing Haymes, Prokop, Taylor, etc sign pro contracts after their junior year makes me worry that we may lose some players before they've used up their eligibility.  Traditionally Cornell has been good with holding onto their guys.  Barron and Malinski obviously stayed all four years.  I believe Nash and Greening did too.  Even going back to Matt Moulson and Douglas Murray, I believe they stayed.  I know I'm extremely biased but I think the draw of playing at Cornell is just different than other schools.  A packed Lynah Rink for every home game, a full MSG every single year and more Cornell fans than home fans at opposing teams rinks.  I'm hopeful that our guys realize what a great thing they have at CU!
Sorry about the depressing post before such a big game tomorrow.  Just wanted to share.

Hey Bear lover and bigdingus; this one's for you.  Obviously two individuals that think they somehow make a difference.  Pathetic!  You think the team is trying to fail?  You have no idea what goes on in the inner workings of a team.  Injuries, illness, chemistry, sophomore slumps, academic stress, etc.  You both seem to think Cornell should just show up and win - just that easy. News flash - Other teams may be trying to do the same.  You obviously have never been in a competitive athletic competition or you would be aware of some of the difficulties in being successful as consistently as Cornell Hockey is.

One of my favorite days of the year is August 1st - the first day of college hockey recruit commitments.  This year it will be 2008's committing.
A year ago I had 3 players in mind for Cornell; William Moore/Ithaca connection, Cooper Dennis/Ithaca connection and Aiden Lane/St. Andrews College hockey.  I really thought at least one of them would end up at Cornell, but all three ended up being a swing and a miss.  (Moore - BC / Dennis - Michigan / Lane - Harvard).

This year there is only one player that is pretty certain to head to Ithaca in the future.  Nolan Long, St. Andrews College, is the brother of current Cornell commit Aiden Long.  Seems like a fair bet that he would have CU at the top of his list.

The others I would be interested in is just wishful thinking with the exception of the goalie on the list who is attending St. Andrews College.
     1.  Cameron Chartrand - Quebec native, which Casey seems to get a fair number of players from the province.  He's a defenseman that played for the BK Selects last season.  Will play for Dubuque in the USHL this season and is very highly regarded. Canada U17 Development Camp invitee.
     2.  Mateo Beites - Goalie/St. Andrews College.  Recently invited to the U17 Canada Camp.
     3.  Jonathan Morello - Center / Very highly regarded Clarkson commit.  A 2024 Boston draft pick, he had a real solid development camp with the Bruins.  Would love it if he committed to Clarkson based on Casey being the coach and decided to switch his commitment to Cornell but, again, probably a long shot.

According to Chris Heisenberg Cornell picked up Maddex Marmulak from Nova Scotia.  He is a right shot forward that can play center or right wing and was the league MVP of the Nova Scotia U18 Major Hockey League.  According to Heisenberg he will be coming to CU in either 2026 or '27.  Not sure where he will be playing next season.

I agree with you 100%.  I would love to see what Coach could do with some absolute stud recruits, but, as you said, it apparently isn't going to happen.  Thankfully Coach Schafer is dedicated to his alma mater and didn't seek out other opportunities where he could have competed for championships on equal footing with the hockey factories.  It will be a sad day when he retires.

Disappointing to say the least.  I really thought there was a decent chance that CU would get at least one of the three with their connections to either Ithaca or St. Andrew's College.
The good news is that Cornell continues to do an incredible job of identifying players that fit their style and culture.  This past years freshmen class is a prime example.  As Herb Brooks said, "we're not looking for the best players, we're looking for the right ones."  Cornell does exactly that knowing that the blue chippers aren't likely to come to CU.  Cornell is very fortunate to have Coach Schafer - a devoted alum that has stuck around all these years.  In my opinion he's the best coach in the country.  Can't imagine what he would have accomplished at Michigan, Denver, BU, BC, Minnesota, UND, etc.

These players are all extremely high end and therefore it may be a long shot getting any of them since they will all be heavily recruited by the typical college hockey powers.  Really tough when you have the built-in recruiting disadvantages that Cornell has; fewer games, lack of scholarships, stringent admissions standards and extremely challenging academics.  CU does however seem to have a connection with these players through Ithaca or St. Andrew's College so who knows?  Let's Go Red!!!
