Hockey / WHCU ends broadcast partnership with CU
July 30, 2025, 10:04:18 PM
WHCU to conclude historic broadcast partnership with Cornell Hockey:

https://607newsnow.com/news/258852-a-legacy-of-over-80-years-comes-to-a-close-as-cornell-shifts-its-broadcast-plans/

More time for WHCU to air the quality evening programming we are accustomed to hearing leading up to games the past few years I suppose. *eyeroll*

Locals I've talked to today have expressed concerns how this will play out in terms of a terrestrial audio offering.

The main Cornell Hockey Archives listing can be seen here: http://rmc.library.cornell.edu/EAD/htmldocs/RMA03590.html
This includes the carefully curated and thoughtfully donated Mintz collection. There are other hockey related items living in other collections within the Archives, such as other standalone photo collections.
The Archives accepts physical media and digitizes on demand for $ either in an in house media lab or using a preservation quality vendor (not those memory box quick digitization places you see advertised, different processes) Born digital content or content digitized by others is also accepted. There is a fair amount of digitized media, but it is not currently online, you can scroll to the series Video in the guide and see listings of what has been digitized. In time more content should be available online, but there are quite a number of check boxes to go through these days before modern digital content is allowed to be hosted publicly by the Library. The Archives has traditionally relied heavily on others (collectors, enthusiastic alumni, etc.) to assist with making sure history is not lost. Generally the Archives is equipped to house paper and flat materials, but other objects of significance are occasionally accepted, things like shirts and memorabilia. Archival storage is expensive so duplicate items are usually not accepted or are sorted out for sending elsewhere after receiving. Contact the Archives here: universityarchives@cornell.edu for any questions.

If nothing else this loss and what it meant for Cornell hockey should reinvigorate the "screw BU" cheer, may the pep band oblige.

Sure, but that's what audio is for.

I loved it, personally.  I was charmed by his warm-hearted idiocy.  And he seriously knew his shit -- he made many Cornell hockey deep cuts that were clearly extemp, not notes.

I chuckled when with stoppage at 3:16 left in the game he noted "that's tomorrow" in absolutely seemless fashion.  The guy had it all.

Is anyone getting ticket carded at the balcony bar? I'm not a tier 1 ticket holder and my experience at intermission has been walk up, order beer, receive beverage with financial transaction. You just have to consume it there and I guess they don't want you loitering near the balcony during the game if your seats aren't there.

No one watches anymore, all on social media.

Even with Halloweekend and other activities, the surprising number of empty seats and tiny pep band is tough to see for a high caliber game and when ND traveled well.

Marching band is on the road, you doofuses.
Aware of the football schedule, but lamenting we couldn't put on a full house show at Lynah or a visiting team with a strong fan base.

Quote from: rss77I have been big backer of Dave Archer over the years. He bleeds red and white and has been in his "dream job" for 10 years.  30 seniors still being on the team speaks positive that the guys like being in the program. Unfortunately I think it's time to move on. I raise the question of whether football success is possible at Cornell given current conditions.
+1. Well said.

Quote from: arugulaPerfect ending.  Don't step out of bounds and stop the clock. So dumb.

The timeout after the lengthy review was really something too.

Both of these, SMH.

Pre scoreboard watching a game from the center of the balcony wasn't a bad spot for a few games a year. You could really get in a goalie's ear and hear the action on the ice. Post scoreboard that view was lost, couldn't see down over the scoreboard. I'll be curious to see how they will make this work in terms of seeing the west end goal from the premium seats or if fans up there will just rely on monitors to watch the game.

Some of you probably already watched this when it came out, but he did a nice interview about his career back in 2021, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fbF3tSVry3Q

This makes more sense now that time shifting video is easily available, but before that if you wanted to read the story you had to pick up the book, you just didn't want to be forced to start on the last page if you wanted a little suspense.

Quote from: chimpfoodI mean it's a forum for Cornell hockey discussion. You should probably stay away if you don't want to know the score

These comments gave me eLynah nostalgia as there was some animated back and forth discussion about posting game scores in the title 16 years ago (see this thread) back when people were still using VCRs and getting a decent online stream was a bit more of challenge, still, as they say, it was a simpler time. Back then if you couldn't follow the game in real time and wanted to relive it as it unfolded, scrolling the game thread here was really the only place you could do it.
Quote from: Dpperk29just a simple request to those following the games on elynah. since today's game is televised, can you please not put the score in the thread title? I plan on taping it and watching it late tonight.
