Other Sports / Dunphy Leaves Penn Basketball
April 10, 2006, 02:37:31 PM
Penn's coach leaves to take over from John Chaney at Temple.  Thoughts?  Does this give someone else a chance to win the NCAA ticket?

Having sat on ajury last week in a case where all the eveidence was eyewitness testimony, good luck finding such a place John.  Any faith I had in the system is pretty much dogshit now.

Fair enough.  I was trying to make the point it was a good shot, but it would have been even better to hit the near upper corner, so it was a stupid phrasing.  Still, bad goaltending.

Yeah, you CANNOT allow that shit in.  Beautiful shot, to the far upper corner, but no excuse not to be able to cut that off.

2 goals for MSU in the last 90 seconds of periods.  Lack of mental toughness from Maine.

Now, I'm being slightly argumentative, devil's advocate here, but I think it's a very legitimate question, when no other ECAC team has won a tourney game in 6 years.  As for Colgate competing last year, well, so did Bemidji State last year, and Holy Cross this year.  I don't think that means those conferences are competetive as a whole, yet.  The wins are just rare events, where rare in hockey isn't all that rare, since you don't win hockey games by 20 goals.

This is as good a place as any (except the Harvard thread) to point out the remarkable 6-5 record Schafer has in NCAA tourney play going into today.  That's really good, considering the number of other ECAC wins in the NCAA tourney in that time.

Counting that up, the ECAC is 9-23 in the NCAAs since Schafer came to Cornell.  Cornell is 6-5 in that time.  The last non-Cornell ECAC team to win an NCAA game was SLU(t) in 2000.  Which brings up the thought I had last night, is Cornell hockey basically the Gonzaga of hockey?  The only team in the conference that can compete nationally.  Maybe.

It just seemed to work fine for me once I set it up.  Well, to be fair I tried this to try to get the CBS MarchMadness Internet, and that didn't work at all.  But it worked for CN8 today.  So, I really can't say.

It seems you should just be able to go to the Mocrosoft site and pick up "Windows Media Components for QuickTime"  Let me know if you need more info

I'm watching on my Mac laptop as well.  I had to pick up some plugin that allows Quicktime to play WMP stuff.  I can't remember what it's called, though.  let me see if I can find it.

Could be worse.  I had to wake up at 8 am to watch it.  And then after, I thought to myself, "Why did I wake up to watch it?"  I can get better, more coherent, more accurate analysis any number of places at a time of my choosing.  ESPN probably knows this.  So, why do we watch it.  Just because it's Cornell hockey on TV.  Bob Norton could come out speaking in toungues and we'd still watch.  So, complaining about the details seems silly.  We got what we wanted.  The Cornell logo on TV, and fleeting footage of some Cornell hockey.

It's really too bad that mental illness still carries the "funny/nut" to it. Anyone who has had someone close have to go through it, can attest as to how painful it is to all, friends, relatives, and the patient. It's terrible to have to stand by and realize that you can't do that much to help, other than to be there when it's needed.

If we could get rid of the funny, nutcase, and maybes, we would all do alot better.[/q]

Extremely well said.

And I'll add that mental illness is indeed tragic, there is no more appropriate word.

(added) umm, the username I use is suddenly not so good.

Amen to that.  Some of us remember listening to road play-in games on the radio and watching dump-and-chase all season long.  And by chase, I mean road-runner/coyote chase, as in, not get.

I suppose I didn't watch too many years of futility, but it should be noted, my Cornell hockey fandom began with at least 5 months before I actually saw a win.

Still, I must say, it'd be nice to play a regular season game against a WCHA team more than once a decade.  And RIT doesn't exactly excite me, either.

Of course, hosting the Spartans is good.   Very good.

Now, when do we schedule a trip to Alaska... I'm still waiting for that one.
