Quote from: VIEWfromK on March 31, 2026, 10:27:44 AMShucks.  That was a disappointing finish to a very fun season.  I would so much rather endure the agony of a close NCAA game that is a toss up than to lose a lopsided game like that.  I waited a full calendar year to hopefully get back the feeling I had during that magical run from last spring.  I can't say that I truly expected to feel like that this spring after the way they sputtered down the stretch but I was hoping for a competitive game and maybe a first round surprise.

In the end this young team just proved to not be tough enough to play against.  It was a second half of the season issue and not just evident in the Denver game.  I'm hopeful that the forward group of Hiscock, Long, Pirtle, Murray and Arsenault can figure out how to grind down the other team along the likes of a Jeff Malott.  I'm not necessarily expecting that to be how it plays out with some of their skill sets and Casey's coaching style vs Schafer's but it's a way to potentially create more offensive opportunities that start in the opponent's zone beyond winning a faceoff.

It will take time for the yearning for them to play a heavier game to leave my body after thirty years of that style.  I worry though that trying to play the same type of game as the usual Frozen Four teams is asking too much of our talent pool.  I'm willing to wait and see if they can make it happen though.  They certainly have a ton of balance from this year's freshman group.  I'm excited to see how the newcomers will fit in.  It's going to be interesting to see how Casey's role players differ from the ones Schafer used to target.

That's one pretty successful transition year in the books.  Can't wait to add to it.

The trouble is that these days the better teams have players that are too fast and too skilled to get ground down.

The good news is that maybe we will find one such player. Eric Pohlkamp was a 5th round draft pick and is expected to go straight into the NHL as soon as DU finishes their run. He was able to side step our D-men.

Saw this announcement for the incoming players:
Incoming players article in Sun

When the headline starts with "McDavid" that kind of draws attention.
Yes, she is related (cousin). Talk about having pressure on you.

Regardless, it seems like a great incoming class.

2004 movie, Miracle

Mystery, Alaska
.....

Mystery Alaska has a direct connection to Cornell Hockey via the newspaper scene. David E Kelley was captain of the Princeton hockey team in the late 1970s and likely learned it form the Lynah Faithful during that time or soon after (Unless Jeff explains that it came from Scranton).

so is cornell

Good. :-( I would rather we go flat broke, and our beloved alma mater turn into a ghost town, than buckle to these clowns.

I'm not sure how this relates to Cornell's own legal action but there was a lot of press recently about how Cornell and Columbia were the only Ivies that didn't officially support Harvard's legal action. I'll leave legal terms like "Amicus Brief" to the experts.
Crimson article on who is supporting Harvard[/url

If Cornell is not offering support due to its own separate legal action then that is one thing. But I hope we are not cowering in fear.

No love for Derrick T. Harmon (there is another Derrick Harmon on pro football) in football? Lots of accolades during his time on the Hill and he won a Super Bowl ring with the Niners in '85. Note that this was just after Cornell was demoted to the second division.

Derrick T. Harmon
Aside from remembering him for his prowess as a running back, he interned with my company in our Geosciences group one summer while he was still on the Niners (IIRC). So he wasn't just a jock (not that the others are).

Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?

What the f--k happened to the Elynah I used to know? Where's the spirit? Where's the guts, huh?

I'm kind of leaning more towards John Winger's inspirational speech from Stripes:
Stripes Pep Talk
A prophetic tidbit from that (substitute "Cornellians" for "Americans"):
"We're not Spartans. We're Americans, with a capital 'A', huh? You know what that means? Do ya? That means that our forefathers were kicked out of every decent country in the world. We are the wretched refuse. We're the underdog. We're mutts! "

Interesting. Does that mean that his politics are progressieve? :-D

FWIW, I was able to get the game on my laptop by logging in through a Disney+ account (with ESPN bundled). Not working through logging in to ESPN+ directly.

I can't believe that I never noticed, ASU plays hockey in Mullett Arena! **]

Before you T-off on me, my apologies if this amazing fact has been pointed out before.

Quote from: toddloseMaybe a bronze bust at the entrance of rink for players to touch prior to getting on the ice.

Or give him a statue outside (that should be for harkness or Dryden in my mind however)

Ring (or Wall, given the building geometry) of Honor isn't a difficult concept, folks.

Given the amount of displays in the hallways, I think adding one for Schafer should be a piece of cake.

Maybe Schafer has gained a few pounds, but I don't think the display should be a piece of cake :-D
Rather it should be a statue of him breaking a stick over his head. Or if it is just a bust then perhaps and interactive one where players can break things over the head for luck.

Yes. Four Americans out of like thirty.

Pot calling the kettle Red? Wasn't that long ago that Cornell ice hockey was the wild Canadian horde.
