Hockey / Times Article for Hockey / Stats Geeks
May 31, 2013, 05:07:37 PM
Nate Silver has an article in today's paper that about 0.05% of the population could possibly get through, but which 25% of the people on this forum might read through the end.  I'm part of the other 75% but wanted to share.

Hockey / Re: Cornell 3 Michigan 2 post game

It took nine years, but this felt like the karmic counterpoint to the goal reversed against UNH in Buffalo. Michigan came out flying last night just like we did against UNH.  The time taken to review the goal plus the reversal took the wind out of Michigan, just like it did to our '03 team.  And neither game was the same after that.  To be sure, the result of each game was based on the 60+ minutes of play, but that reversal always stuck with me - as I'll bet yesterday's will with a few folks in Ann Arbor.  May the curse of Buffalo be forever gone; and may this young team take it all the way - if not this year, then very soon!

Hockey / Re: PWR Pedagogery
March 11, 2010, 02:27:47 PM
Can someone please, please provide an updated PWR assessment for the coming weekend?  Can BU face UnivNoHardware in the HE tourney and flip the CoP for us?  Would CoP even matter for that comparison if we advance to Albany?  Is NoHardware the only comparison that is up for grabs and is not 100% RPI-dependent? I need my PWR fix here, people.

I always remember Albany as having poor ice conditions.
That memory is most clear thanks to Harvard's rink-length shot at CU's empty net in the 2003 championship game.  I swear that puck was going in, before it skipped up on end after crossing the blue line and rolled wide of our net.  The resulting icing set up the face off in Harvard's zone that we scored off of to send the game into overtime.  What a game.
Last night was amazing, too.  Wish I was there.

Great stuff.  You can almost hear the "ping" in nos. 36 and 37.

Good point.
This also highlights the importance of the remaining games against Harvard, RPI and Clarkson are, since losses to them will hurt a lot of PWR common opponent comparisons.

One thing the article did not mention was the fact that (maybe it's not a fact - please correct me if I'm wrong), coupled with the recent tuition waiver for students of modest means, Harvard's decision to lower its academic standards for basketball players essentially is an end around the Ivy prohibition against athletic scholaships.

Anyone else remember Stewart's time as a defenseman for the Broome Dusters in the NAHL?  If I recall correctly (I was 7), he led the team in penalty minutes.

Hockey / Ted Donato, Come on Down . . .
February 14, 2006, 03:27:15 PM
Has there been any discussion of developing some chants/cheers/jeers mocking Donato for his appearence on The Price Is Right during his senior year?  I saw bits of the video on CSTV (or something like that) earlier this year and it was quite funny.
Some links to articles about it here:

Seems to me that something like this should work:
Fan: "Hey Donato, what do you bid on the dinette set?"
Section B: "$2,000"
Fan: "Hey Donato, how much for your hockey team?"
Section B: "$1"

Hockey / Re: Cornell vs. Minnesota post game thread

What do we need to do to be the "host school" for a regional in Buffalo, Albany or . . . gasp . . . MSG?  Whatever it is, the AD should get it done this summer.

Hockey / Re: NO GAME AT SHIP OF FOOLS
March 24, 2005, 10:55:18 AM
I left a voicemail for the manager yesterday; he has yet to return my call.  I'll let everyone know if anything develops.

Assuming that there is a Sunday game . . . please let there be a Sunday game . . . are we in the same boat or will it be easier to find a place with the ESPNU feed?

Hockey / Today's games to be aired on CSTV in NYC
March 18, 2005, 10:19:28 AM
According to the preview guide on my TV last night, Time Warner customers in New York City will be able to see today's ECAC games on channel 26:
Ha-Ha/Toothpaste live at 7:00
CU/UVM via tape delay at 10:00.

The burning question - for those with the hurculean will power not to get the score online: Will the CSTV broadcasters during the 7:00 game be sensitive to viewers of the tape delay game and not reveal the outcome of the early game?

Tampa Bay can have their towels.
We should stick with wit and fish.
