Headed to the game this afternoon.  Here's hoping for a better outcome now that they've had a game to get their regular-season bearings.

I did get up at 4 AM, and the USA did convincingly beat Canada.  Although Cole did not figure in the scoring, he continued to play a high-energy, pesky game and earned compliments from the commentators for his tenacity.  It's nice to hear Cornell mentioned from time to time!

I can't speak to the child-ticketing policy, but I'm pretty sure there was no re-entry last year.  I remember trying to find somewhere to have a big lunch on Saturday so that we could subsist on rink snacks for the next 8 hours.  Oddly enough, there was very little quality food available in AC within walking distance to the rink at lunchtime, as most casino restaurants were only open for dinner.

Crodge2k and I will be there, showing a distinct lack of enthusiasm for being in Atlantic City, but our usual enthusiasm for Cornell hockey

I would agree with the long waits, although when we first got there at 5:15, there wasn't much of a wait, but over the 1.5 hours we were there, we got plenty of food.  I would not say there was a shortage.

All in all, I would go to this event again, although I'd prefer if there were more of the "true" Faithful there.

The King Arthur store is an excellent pre-game stop just over the border from Hanover in VT.  I'll be at both games with Crodge2k.

Hockey / People we know on the radio
November 05, 2011, 08:33:45 AM
After returning home from Yale at 1 AM and having to get to work this morning, I dragged myself out to my car and turned on the NHL channel on the satellite radio.  To my surprise, I came in on a conversation with Brandon Thomas on the Hockey on Campus show, discussing the (hopefully) upcoming 500th win in the Lynah rink building.  After a commercial break, Adam Wodon was on, and although he mostly talked about the Wolverines, at the end the interviewer asked him about his time in Lynah and the Cornell program as well.  It was kind of surreal, since I was thinking about Cornell when I turned on the radio, and suddenly there were people talking about us!

Crodge2k and I also found the Fairfield Inn in Absecon when searching TripAdvisor on Sunday night, so will be there as well.  I had thought that the Borgata looked like an interesting place to look around on Saturday afternoon before the games (not gamble--that's not our style.)  Any recommendations for a nice restaurant there or near the boardwalk in AC for a wedding anniversary lunch?  (We conveniently eloped 4 years ago when Cornell didn't make the tourney--this way we don't have to worry about how we'll celebrate our anniversary most years!)

Crodge2k and I will be at the game. We're already in Princeton. The roads are fine so far, sidewalks only halfway decent.

Speaking of Bitz, I just checked the Panthers' site, and it looks like he is on injured reserve (elbow).

Denver may be trying to figure how they'll get to Albany.  The Denver airport was mostly shut down today due to snow, so hopefully they'll be able to get out here on time!

On the subject of actual hockey, I think this is the first year that I haven't seen Denver play on TV at least once during the season, so I will be very interested to see their style during the first-round matchup.

Chris and I will be there, although if they win Friday, we'll drive back to MA so I can work Saturday morning, then return to Albany for Saturday night.

I think we'll stay somewhere different to break up the monotony!

I heard them mention that Roeszler was still sick with the bug that had gone through the team.  They didn't mention whether he would be well enough to play tonight.

Hockey / Re: Cornell 5 at UNH 2 (postgame)

A few UNH fans commented to us at the rink that UNH did not play as well as usual yesterday, but one said, "We've seen Miami and Wisconsin play here this year, and you guys look better than both of them."  Take with a grain of salt, of course, but nice to hear.  Several people stopped us to ask, "How the heck did Cornell lose in Florida?!  They look amazing."

It was nice to see a solid game, and the domination in the 3rd period was amazing.

Quote from: CUontheslopes
Quote from: jkahnMoulson scores at 1:02 of the first period, after the Caps scored at 8 seconds in.

He's now leading the team in points. He's been quite a revelation for a team needed a boost. I don't think anyone (except perhaps the most optimistic CU fan) saw this coming. Good for him. It's great to see him succeed, even if he isn't a Ranger...

Well, perhaps I am the most optimistic CU fan, but having watched many of his games in Manchester, I definitely saw this coming.  Matt has good positional sense, great hands when the puck comes to him, and a strong sense of defensive responsibility.  He doesn't look fast, but he makes it to where he needs to be a lot of the time, and is able to capitalize when he gets a chance. All he needed was a chance with an NHL team that doesn't suck as badly as the Kings sucked last year and a coach who isn't looking to blame the team's failure on young players who aren't the real problem.  Of course, it helps to get off to a strong start so that you continue to get the icetime to continue your success...
