It doesn't seem as if single ticket games at Princeton are on sale yet, unless I'm totally missing something

Quote from: TrotskyGood to see a local lad (Latham) stay home.

Favorite sons fleeing to the CHL or rivals is always irritating, even though yeah get outta dodge the second you can, I feel ya.

I don't know about the "staying home" part. If he were really doing that, he'd be a Union or RPI commit as Latham is a suburb of Albany

It also helps that they have a newer AD along with the newer president

Hockey / Re: New Facemask Rule

Quote from: scoop85The NCAA passed a welcome new rule making placing a hand on an opponent's face mask only a minor penalty; we saw the previous ridiculous rule resulting in a 5 minute major last year in the NCAAs when Walsh face washed a BU kid.

The same thing happened to Kovich even a few months before at Princeton and that resulted in a goal against. Strange to have it called twice in a season

Turned around a historically weak program and led a team to a surprising championship run. Too bad about the recent years but the team probably needed an overdue change anyway behind the bench.

Quote from: upprdeckmostly you cant stream espn+ over seas.  I'm sure Cornell knows that....

That's what a good VPN is for. I watched both NCAA regional games from Europe this year. And usually, some games fall on dates when I'm on inevitably on vacation or a work trip out of the country

Speaking of BU, Jack Parker gets inducted into the Hockey HOF. Well deserved.

Quote from: billhowardThis from the Ithaca Voice. Says Cornell headcount [one assumes this to mean to employees not stoners] grew wildly the last 3-4 years. Maybe Cornell did not replace some departed staff during the Covid years and then overdid the hiring:

Quote from: Matt Butler, EIC, The Ithaca VoiceCornell President Michael Kotlikoff and other university leaders delivered the news via a campus-wide email Wednesday [6/18/25] afternoon.

The letter announced the initiation of a "comprehensive review of programs and headcount across the university," caused by a 15% growth in the workforce since 2021 that has, in Kotlikoff's words, "greatly outpac[ed] our revenue."

Our 15th president, in addition to being a solid hoops fan, is master of the dry understatement.

No doubt they overhired like many other private organizations within and outside of the higher education sector. They're just a bit late in reducing headcount because it looks much worse when a university does it compared to a Deloitte or a Meta.

Other Sports / Re: Meinig Fieldhouse Construction

Quote from: chimpfoodIntramurals never have access to varsity facilities. Soccer is on jessup road, not Berman field, flag football same spot. Hell basketball isn't even on a real court, it's inside Barton hall.

That's one change I have been wishing for a while now, let the non athletes use these nice facilities at some point. I get the main purpose is for the varsity teams but it would be more fun and engagement with those sports could improve if you let intramurals happen in the nice facilities.

This I remember being the case for intramurals, but not necessarily for PE classes, where we sometimes used the same playing surfaces (e.g. Newman for basketball) as varsity players. Oftentimes for PE ice hockey, we'd use the visitors' locker room to change. In fact, one year, I thought I had left my glasses behind in the locker room and the next day, I went searching for them. By this time, one of the visiting teams had already arrived on campus and left their equipment in the room but none of the team members were in the rink at the time. The guy working at the rink (not the main manager dude who's still at the rink but another guy) was kind enough to let me into the locker room to look for them and all the shelves were so pristinely organized with the players' equipment. I didn't find the glasses there, but I correctly deduced that I had left them in a classroom at the Ag Quad and reached out to the TA for that class, who did take them for safekeeping and gave them back to me the next time we met.

Quote from: BearLoverSad about Stevens but understandable and he won us a natty so he will always be a Cornell legend. Does anybody know how much a Cornell lacrosse assistant probably makes? How about head coach?

The Education Department tracks this, but the averages probably aren't particularly useful in trying to figure out what the pay for a specific position is (especially the ones that are endowed). It appears that not all of the coaching positions are full-time as well. (EDIT: The data is for 2022-23.)

But the averages:

Men's team head coach: $157,746
Men's team asst. coach: $67,478
Women's team head coach: $111,277
Women's team asst. coach: $56,668
Is this Division 1? Probably safe to assume the head assistant, as Stevens was, makes more than the average? It was probably time to ride off into the sunset and fulfill his destiny as a finance bro. No shame in that. Cornell legend.

Sorry, those are the average salaries at Cornell.

If I had to guess, at least a few hundreds of thousands given the profile of the sport at the school but likely not as high as at places like Syracuse, UVA, or Notre Dame. And of course not nearly as high as basketball or other typically high-profile college sports.

Quote from: Ken711Does Connor Buczek get a raise or bonus for coaching his Cornell team to the National Championship?

I'd be shocked if there isn't already a bonus provision in the existing contract that stipulates an incremental payout for season achievements (e.g. ILT championship, NCAA appearance, etc.). I'd guess a raise is built in, too, or a provision to renegotiate whatever the base salary is.

It's a really good thing when your best offensive player has no goal and all the other guys can make up for it

Quote from: Chris H82I went back and forth for the last couple of days about traveling to Boston, and in the end I decided this might be the best chance to see the Big Red win a natty in my lifetime. So I've bought a plane ticket, and I got a ticket in Section 105 for Saturday's game - if we win that one, I'll figure out a ticket for Monday.
Anyone have any suggestions for places to stay, either near Foxboro (might be pretty boring) or in Beantown itself? I'm LONG past the point of "..crashing on the floor of your friend who didn't get into Cornell so they ended up at BU..", as the Sun used to note in their annual "going to Boston for the ECAC Hockey finals" articles back in the 70s. Hell, I've got a hiking/skiing buddy here who's retired from instructing at BU!

So, any accommodation suggestions are appreciated.

Let's Go Red!!!!

Providence is close enough to not dismiss it as an option given how expensive lodging in Boston is.

Yeah, I'm not convinced Syracuse gets past Princeton either. That was a game Harvard blew--Princeton isn't doing the same if put in the same situation in the 1st half

Harvard up 8-2 at the Dome after the first half. Syracuse looking bad against a team they previously faced
