Hockey / Re: Red Cast Really Sucks^2

I was flipping through the Comcast sports channels today and came across a Minnesota High School game that was worth watching.  They had excellent announcers, full replays and multiple camera angles with great coverage of the puck.  they never lost the play and they were always full of commentary and analysis as the game went on.  This was a high school game and it outdid most any of the college streams I have experienced.

Edit: Apparently eLynah thinks the above message is SPAM. That's weird.

This is their response to the complaint they have pathetic service...  I think I will wait til the last game of the year and then ask for a full refund for poor service :)

We apologize for the inconvenience. We are currently experiencing technical difficulties and we are working with the school to resolve the issue. If you would like us to cancel and refund your subscription, please let us know.

Iles HAS been the difference so far in this game...  not sure what game you are watching but both goals allowed were the result of rebounds off saves that were Iles doing his job...  Defensive letdowns and good bounces for Dartmouth are more the culprit then Andy having to scramble.  He has made some outstanding saves to keep this game close, as well as an amazing paddle down save before the second Dartmouth goal.  Stay out of the box and be more disciplined and we wouldn't be seeing some of these gaffs.

Quote from: Jim HylaTo get back on topic, hair growth discussion in December ugh, another well written article about this topic by Dryden. He had started this last year, if I remember correctly. It is a serious problem and I only wish that Greenings penalty meant the hockey world was starting to take this seriously. The only hope the game has is to institute no fighting, as per NCAA, and game misconduct for any, even incidental, hit to the head. Subsequent hits, longer time out. Eventually they treat it like drugs and if someone keeps doing it he's out for weeks. Otherwise we may never see full careers from players like Crosby ever again.
The one difficult thing to address though is that its pretty difficult for some players to hit small players below the head. It basically means Zdeno Chara can only hip check St. Louis. Eric Lindros suggested that perhaps the game became too fast with the changes to increase offense and suggested reinstating the two line pass, and widening the rinks to Olympic sized rinks so there's more space to work with. Maybe the Big E's right?
During the Rangers-Blues game last Thursday evening, John Davidson was in the MSG broadcast booth and concussions were one of the topics discussed.  He suggested that the NHL could use a 200x92 ice surface (the size used in Finland, which the KHL is also switching to) if they wanted to add more room without going all the way to 200x100.
I could be totally off-base, but wouldn't making the rinks bigger also allow players to go faster?

The speed is more of a north-south issue whereas having extra room going east-west creates more space to move and dodge...  they don't want to make the game longer...  just wider.  The Olympic 200x100 is a tad large but I like the idea of 200x92.  The game is better then ever as far as excitement and player skill.  Maybe it's time to make it bigger as well.

Another thing to consider is the last Olympics in Vancouver.  They played those games on NHL surfaces for the first time ever and the product was incredible and the pace was outstanding.  There were no fights and the focus was solely on HOCKEY.  The best in the game playing it to its capabilities... on smaller rinks.    The sport at all levels needs to take the goonish behavior and disrespect out of the game.  Fighting needs to go away and the skills of more talented players who are stuck in the AHL or below who can play at the elite level will be far better for the game then giving a roster spot to enforcers who might only see a few minutes every other game.   Imagine going to an NHL game and seeing teams with four excellent lines all running at full tilt...  60 minutes of great hockey not marred by fights and senseless Sean Avery type stupidity.   The bottom 5% of players in The NHL only serve one purpose and it isn't their skills with a puck

The US roster will still need to be trimmed to 22 before Dec. 24th.  So let's keep our fingers crossed that Ferlin is still there.  If not it's another bonus for FL.

It is nothing to do with size.  The US programs coaches and goalie coach Joe Exter had full faith in his game.    Campbell is just the Golden Boy having backstopped 3 gold medals and a bronze in a little under 2 years time in IIHF Tournies... With the WJC Gold coming under incredible pressure in an incredible atmosphere in Saskatoon.

And Gibson is currently putting up solid numbers in the OHL...  so it's not as though he hasn't earned this as well.  Let's just be thankful that we will have OUR goalie for some important OOC games that we need to win, and put our full support behind The Red, White and Blue when it's time in late December.  The USA/canada New Years Eve matchup should be a great one.

Yes, it is being aired at 5:30.  I would have enjoyed seeing Iles get another chance at WJC but USAH has other plans.  Good luck to Ferlin on his chance.

Iles will not be going to World Juniors. It will be announced shortly. Team USA will take Gibson instead to give him the experience he will need next year when he should take over the reigns for Jack Campbell.

Just ask Siri or Douglas Adams what the Answer to the ultimate question of Life, the Universe, and Everything is...  Although it's hard to ask the latter since he is taking a dirt nap.  But all you Iphone addicts can get a chuckle asking Siri.

Since people seem to think that Scrivens has achieved some form of Deity status for his efforts at Cornell and now having elevated his game to the Show,  Let's take a look back at his and Iles' comparable stats for the same time frames in their tenure on the hill to this point.  Remember that Iles was a true 18 yr old Freshman and Scrivens was 20 his first game for the Red.  In terms of physical maturity that's a Big difference.

Glad to see the coaching staff has far more knowledge and foresight into how to run their team then the Monday morning Bench Bosses around these parts.  There is no ANSWER.  other than 42.  All you can do is hope for successful seasons and support the Team and coaching staff in every way possible.   Enjoy the ride while it lasts and don't get down on them when they run into a bad spell.

Agreed.  Yes, it's "early" in the NCAA eligibility sense.  But he did finish school, which  is the real goalpost for student athletes.  Ok, only in theory.  Stop your laughing.

I have no problem with Garman walking away with his piece of paper early... More power to him for that.  I do find it Humorous that he thought the grass was greener on the other side after only 18 game starts at the D1 level.  Not all that seasoned for a 24 year old trying to jump to a pro level.  He had the chance to return and share the glory but let his ego get the better of him. And as for the mention of the "Signing Bonus" pointed out above...  This was the ECHL...  where your signing bonus might consist of a few thousand $ but definitely nothing lucrative.  And making 400$ per week in the ECHL is peanuts compared to the chance to play one more season in front of the Faithful.

Scrivens is the example for young players to follow...  use your 4 years to better yourself and grow  the rewards will be far more beneficial in the long run.

A 93 minute pro career.  Getting Waived by an Extremely Crappy Hockey League team is a really bad sign for your future.

Bet he's wishing he would have stayed on the hill for that extra year.
