Hockey / Re: Harvard 4, Cornell 3, Final

Quote from: ithacatThe only things that should ever be allowed to be thrown on the ice should be hats and teddy bears.

Why the exceptionalism for hats and teddy bears? Hats come during game play and can be just as disruptive.

Are you implying that it is traditional so then it's okay?

Then is it also okay for an entire generation of future Cornell fans to not have the opportunity to hurl fish at the Crimson because we lost one game by one goal because of an incident that takes place once every 9 years?

Quote from: BigRedHockeyFanIf you are as sick of the fish ordeal as I am, contact the athletics department and tell them that Mike should denounce fish throwing.

I find this kind of action and calls for the end of the fish quite short-sighted. If you want Lynah to not be forgotten on lists by the WSJ about the atmosphere, you can't start attacking what makes our barn unique.

The last time the team got a team/bench penalty for delay of game at a home against Harvard was February 1, 2002. So for 9 years the fans weren't "children" and Cornell wasn't adversely affected.

I assume all of you with the holier-than-thou attitude never threw a fish at Lynah. What if it had been newspaper? Should we stop throwing that on the ice as well?

Doubt you'll get that many of the casual student fans considering it costs 10$ for a ticket to all three games or 8$ for just Friday.

This is an Ivy League event, with ticket prices determined by the league, so your Big Red Sports Pass is NOT valid for admission.

We encourage you to come out and support the Cornell Big Red in this highly anticipated rematch with Brown on our home turf!  Student tickets are available for purchase at cornellbigredtickets.com, at the Athletic Ticket Office in Bartels Hall or at the ticket booths before the game.  Tickets for the semi-final round on Friday (includes both games) are $8 for students; tickets for the Championship Game on Sunday (played at 12pm) are $5.  An all-session ticket can be purchased for $10.

Quote from: HeafDogWe earned the victory, and we earned the right to celebrate.

Not trying to start anything (but it probably will).

But what exactly did you (meaning the cornell fans as a whole) to ensure victory? Sure you supported the team, and you yelled really loud. I would hardly say that those things entitle you to say that you "earned the victory" is stretching the truth just a little wouldn't you say?

I think you severely underestimate how much this group of players do everything in their power to win for the Lynah Faithful. In Albany, the Cornell fans drowned out what I expected to be a formidable Union crowd, considering the noise level during the semi-final game. But the stick salutes, the board crashings, the victory laps, hell even our goalie's helmet, show how much a role the Cornell fans play out there as the 7th man. Clarkson has great fans too that actually show up to away games, but I would not doubt for a second that every Cornell hockey fan would have been crushed had this group of seniors gone 4 years without so much as a single title.

In other news, the team Johnston returns to next year is up 2-0 at the end of 2 against 'gate in Game 1 of the ECAC QF

Penn might have a harder time coming up as they've closed Interstate 80 to commercial traffic for at least some time.

It's pretty silly that anyone cares about this at all and that people are making such a big deal about it. The celebration is well deserved especially in a sport where the pinnacle prize is only handed out every 4 years.

There was already this guy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWgZkUcC9hM and the curling medals have yet to be awarded.

But maybe it will stop people from saying "See ya, you lose" after penalties and "Hey...you suck" during the start of the 3rd.

Hard to believe he would make a holding call as a linesman. Pretty sure he was the one getting out of the way of the high sticks.

Quote from: CUontheslopesI agree with your all your points. I particularly hate that the CU Athletic Dept is so stupid as to have hockey and basketball games at the same time so many weekends. Do what bigger colleges do - move one game up, one game back. Play hockey at 530 and basketball at 8 or some variation thereof. God forbid we we play a Sunday afternoon game when we could put our two biggest winter sports opposite one another - 7 pm every Friday and Saturday. It shows a real lack of imagination. CU should be doing everything it can to make sure we sell out Lynah and Newman (because sadly we don't anymore...).

Last time I checked, the Ivy League is committed to the ideals of the student athlete. You can't possibly change the time of the games and not have some negative impact on the quality of the student life or the game. A 5.30 hockey game on a Friday makes no sense because then even the townies couldn't show up in force and do you really want the team playing on less than 24 hours rest? Basketball games can't start any later because on Friday no team is going to want to have the 4 hour drive ahead of them to NYC at 10pm or later, or in the case of the eastern teams, the 7+ hour trip back. (Bus drivers are limited to the amount of time they can spend on the road).  I imagine it's also prohibitively costly to put a team up in a hotel an extra night.

The lack of attendance at hockey is due to one simple thing - cost. It is easy to find a lot of people who are interested in going to the game, but if you want a pair of tickets to a weekend matchup, you'd already be out 52$ compared to 0$ for basketball.

If my math is correct, tonight is also the de facto Ivy Title match.

Yale wins and they get the title. Cornell wins and we still need a sweep against H and D to ensure a piece of the title.

Cornell has always been woeful for the non-student-athlete. 3 public basketball courts (1 on west and 2 on north), 3 tennis courts (all on north and gym classes always have preference), no open green space that can't be reserved by a club team or event. My biggest issue is that even if Cornell has the space, either club teams or athletics (NCAA or P.E.) use any of the space that might be left (i.e. track team in Barton)
