Sounds similar to the Michigan field house. I remember a game against them where it was moved to that location at the last minute. Capacity was minimal and the sightlines for the goalkeepers were not what you'd want. Looking it up, we did come away with the W though: https://cornellbigred.com/news/2014/3/1/MLAX_0301142802.aspx

Quote from: rss77Let us not forget the great lacrosse goalies we have had:  Dan Mackesey, Paul Schmoler, Chase Ierlan, Butch Hilliard, John Griffin and the guys from the 1971 team (Bucky Gunts and cannot recall the other one)

I wouldn't have Chayse with this group. In the ~20 years I've been following the team, Matt McMonagle is probably the best I can remember in goal. We then had some really solid goalies, but none of them really felt like top tier goalies (Knight, Fiore, Ierlan)

Quote from: djk26Speaking of "do everything", I saw a Seibald highlight reel where he was taking faceoffs for Cornell, too. Wow, I did not remember that.
Took three in the second half of that Albany quarterfinal and brought Cornell back from a two-goal deficit.  Lost two of the three.  On one of the ones he lost, he hounded the guy who picked it up and forced a weak pass toward the Albany goalie that Hurley picked off and then dunked for a goal.  On the second one he lost, he chased down the Albany guy who picked it up and stripped him of the ball for a turnover.  He was something else.

I don't remember this team having a true FOGO, and felt the vast majority of the draws that year were taken by John Glynn. I believe it was late in this season where he had a broken arm or some other arm injury, yet continued to take the draws (and do pretty well) with essentially one arm.

Awesome! Thanks so much for taking the time to upload

Unbelievable that in the last post-game presser of the year, you have the opportunity to ask about the origin on the Freebird goal celebration and let it slip away.

Quote from: semsoxI saw in the athletics notes before the game that this would not only be the first Lacrosse title since 77, but the first team championship in any sport for Cornell since then. Bask in it, because it doesn't come around often

That's insane. But hasn't polo won several times? They may be club team tho. Too lazy to check

https://news.cornell.edu/stories/2020/01/trailblazing-polo-stars-odyssey-began-wrong-turn

Last for women was 2016 as of this article. Remember reading this a while back.

Maybe there's a semantic detail we're not appreciating here, but I'd take it up with the athletics team. The Cornell athletics article on the championship mentions the lack of titles in the first few bodies of the story: https://cornellbigred.com/news/2025/5/26/mens-lacrosse-maryland-recap.aspx.  Could be that Polo does not have wide enough adoption to meet whatever definition they're using, but I'd imagine there's some criteria they're using for this claim.

Couldn't ask for a more exciting opportunity for this senior class. I'd like to think both Richmond and PSU were good tuneups stylistically for what Maryland will try to do. LGR.

Not sure if this is something meant to be sent out more widely, but the Cornell Club of Boston had a discounted ticket link for both the semis and now for the finals. Link to the group is here: https://www.gofevo.com/event/Cornelllacrosse220250519-08453104?purl=9570296f660c

I bought both my semifinals and finals ticket through this, and there seems to be quite a few tickets in sections adjacent to 107. They're not hugely discounted vs. just buying directly through TM, but still saves a few bucks.

Quote from: LGR14Bought Section 108 to be next to 107.  Fairly confident Cornell will still be in 107 on Monday. That's where Yale was in 2018 (as the higher seed), and no reason for Cornell to be changed when they're the highest seed in the tournament.

Can someone who bought the package in 107 confirm what your Monday tickets say?

Cornell will still be in 107. The Cornell block that was released for the tournament included both the semis and finals (with a caveat that the finals would be auto-refunded if Cornell did not advance).

Quote from: billhowardIIRC, Albany circa 2100 (if not, then Stony Brook?) had a goalie so talented with stick-handling that on Albany man-ups, he played behind the opponent net as a feeder.

I think that was Brett Queener, who was Albany's goalie in the Cornell-Albany 2007 NCAA game. He joined the man-up unit in that game as I recall, with the backup goalie coming to the game for those stretches. That game has my favorite Cornell lax moment that I saw in real time (not live, but was watching on tv): in the waning moments of the OT, Max Seibold, on a bad leg, chasing down a UAlbany player and making a leaping trail check, getting the ball, and starting the fast break that led to the winning goal n Glynn with just a few seconds left. Queener broke his goal stick over his leg in frustration.

I actually was at that game, and it's really hard to overstate how insane that play was. No video could do justice to how big of a gap Seibald closed in how short of a time, followed by the mad scramble to hit Glynn on the crease.

I think ND's ceiling was the highest of the remaining team so won't shed tears for them no longer being in the way, but the way in which PSU won that game is the exact reason why I was a bit ambivalent on who I'd rather see. There will definitely be some familiarity with this matchup, as we've played them every year since 2016. We're 3-6 in that time, and of the matches that have been blowouts, all have gone in Penn State's favor.

Quote from: jjanow99Little to no production from the middies today. Kelleher had zero shots. Need more from them next week.

Dalton. Dalton. Dalton, with the hat-trick was enormous. He and Goldstein are the reasons we're packing for the razor stadium.  Ryan more than made up for being shut down last week, other than missing TWO empty cages.  Firth had the two points, but I thought he made some key plays in the 4th.  Kelleher was surprisingly silent.

Look, Richmond's defense caused a bit of chaos. We had to get big goals from what, 2 or 3 long poles? We just aren't going to see another team like Richmond, thank goodness.

First line did their job today, even though it was the least heralded of the trio who put up the goal numbers. I thought Firth had a really impactful fourth quarter, when he'd dodge from the top and start the defense moving. Despite Kelleher's lack of points, he had an important solo clear when the game was in the balance, getting the ball about 10 yards from the midfield line, and running through/past what seemed like 3-4 Richmond players for the successful clear.

Pretty disjointed feeling half. We were trying to push everything early in possession, to middling success, whereas Richmond was taking the air out of the ball. Don't love the amount of time we're playing defense. Hope Coach B has some adjustments for the 2nd half, which have been a strength of this team.

I wouldn't say Cascadden is our most important player, but he might be the most critical to reaching the team's overall ceiling
