Hockey / Re: Cornell hockey at MSG every year

Noticed today in the NHL schedule releases that the Rangers and Canucks will play a 2 p.m. matinee at MSG on the day of Red Hot Hockey. Just thought you might want to know.

Beeej,

Yves forwarded me your e-mail. If nothing else, I can send you my PDF copy of the book. Obviously, it won't read on your Kindle, but you will have the book in some form.

I'm sorry you've been having trouble with it.

Thanks,

EO

I actually don't have a tablet or e-reader myself, but here's what I understand from having helped someone with a tablet earlier today.

When you buy from TheWriteDeal, you enter an e-mail and password to log in. After you buy the book, log in, go to "My Bookshelf." The book should be there for download.

If you have any more problems, let me know, and I'll double-check with the publisher.

Thanks,

EO

By the way, Beeeej, thanks for reminding me about that game. I had originally written that the final was 4-1, and when I went back to fix it one more time, I caught a couple of other things that might have gotten me sued. Thankfully, e-books are easy to fix like that.

Quote from: BeeeejI vividly remember watching that Quinnipiac game on streaming video from my apartment on the Upper East Side.  There was some honor at stake after the upset sweep they'd handed us at home in the quarterfinals that March, and I didn't have a ton of confidence we'd get our revenge, after losing to RIT and Princeton in our first two games.  Although we jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in this game, we incurred a boatload of penalties in the second period and let them tie it up.  Thankfully, Evan Barlow delivered a back-breaker only seconds into the third period, and Mike Devin nailed the insurance goal ten minutes later.

Then I threw myself a nice birthday party.

I read the description on TheWriteDeal, Elliot, and it sounds like my kind of novel, so I look forward to it.  It's not actually going to be $0, right?

Correct. It's going to go for $11.50, if I recall correctly. Hope you enjoy it!

Hockey / Cornell Hockey In My Debut Novel
February 02, 2012, 10:14:23 AM
Hello all,

This definitely falls in the realm of shameless self-promotion, but I wanted to let you know that my debut novel, Robert's Rules of Karaoke, will be published as an e-book by TheWriteDeal.org this Sunday, and while it's certainly not a sports book, there is a college hockey thread that runs through the story, and the book's ninth chapter details a visit to Lynah Rink (and a post-game trip to the Hot Truck). The game in the book is based over Cornell's win over Quinnipiac on November 3, 2007, and while I'm sure those of you were at that game are quite certain that there was no one wearing a BU jersey in Lynah that night, I hope you'll allow me a little artistic license. ;-)

Seriously, I know it's not exactly Love Story, but I hope some of you will check it out.

Thanks so much for your support. I've enjoyed my own trips to Lynah, and I particularly appreciated the band's invitation to play with them during my last visit in 2007...which, oddly enough, was also for a Cornell-Quinnipiac game (and yes, the videos still exist): http://slog.cstv.com/rinkrat/2007/02/video_on_the_road_with_the_bob_1.html

QuoteLEAST LIVELY: Princeton
The story said it was on account of the opponent being Sacred Heart. At Cornell games, I've seen Princeton fans drift in throughout the first period and first intermission. Hobey Baker Rink remains the ultimate prep school facility.

Cornell wuz robbed. RPI, too, on account of there being no category for weirdest building now a hockey rink.

Whenever I went up to RPI, I kept thinking about how Ric Flair wrestled Terry Funk in an "I Quit" match there.

Hockey / Quick Question - Women's ticketing?
November 02, 2010, 10:46:20 AM
Hello all,

Just wondering if women's hockey is a ticketed sport at Cornell. There's a chance I'm going to be coming up on Saturday for the football game, and I was thinking of making my way over to Lynah afterwards. Do I need to worry about getting a ticket?

Also, how far from Schoellkopf is Lynah? Would I want/need to drive from one to the other? It's been a while since I've been in Ithaca, and while I could probably get my answers with a couple of web searches, I'd rather ask you folks and engage with the community a bit.

Thanks,

EO

Here's some USCHO respect...

Now, granted, I don't think he's going to win - too much bad PR about "The System" - but he's got a good shot at the Hat Trick.

Hockey / Cornell No. 1 in ECAC Logo Ranking

Of course, RPI got screwed. Last? LAST?

I might have ranked RPI ahead of you guys, but the Bear/C combo is definitely deserving.

Hockey / Only related via another board, but...

I was trying to explain to the Miami folk why Cornell's fish throwing is different from UNH's or UNO's, and I went to YouTube looking for a video to show them.

How is it that there is no YouTube video of the festivities before the Harvard game?

If I were still at CSTV.com - heck, if there still was a CSTV.com - I might be able to do something about fixing that, but this seems like a no-brainer for YouTube.

As I recall, the student assistant spot wouldn't have been open to Richter at Yale...the traditional "volunteer assistant" spot was the one he filled, and it didn't empty until after his first year taking classes.

I'd also remind you that Shawn McEachern is an assistant at Northeastern. If Nieuwendyk has a home in Ithaca - which I was unaware of - then that move could be more likely than you imagine.

I could see using that taunt, but I couldn't see using it on him at Dartmouth. Somehow, I doubt Estoclet is long for Hanover after this.
