It's too early to get riled up about Harvard and BU. So we chide each other. My thoughts turn to Daniel Patrick Moynihan on "Defining Deviancy Down," as in what we find as weird, abnormal or criminal needs to be readjusted to account for more deviants and weirdos and now to the new world of odd posts online. Not among this august group, of course. https://www.jstor.org/stable/41212064

I think we can be august for 10 more days, for sure. ;)

Quote from: stereax on August 11, 2026, 02:51:13 PMCut to me confirming the law school break period is October 12 to 16 - likely have to make the trip to Poland again (dentist stuff) in that timeframe... if I leave Ithaca on the 9th and NJ on the 10th... guh, it's gonna be a HARD sell for my mother to leave me in Ithaca by the 16th...

I don't remember having ever been to a scrimmage - I think it's usually scheduled over my fall break and I get dragged off back to Jersey for those. It's not on the Google calendar though. They are public admission like the other games, right?

Your dentist is in Poland?!?!?  I though I was nuts that mine is 10 miles away in Bethlehem.

A man goes to his dentist in Warsaw. The dentist sits him down, examines his teeth, and says, "Sir, you have a major cavity, and it's going to cost 700 Zloty to fix." The patient looks shocked, jumps up, and yells, "Seven Hundred Zloty for just five minutes of work?!" The dentist calmly replies, "You're right. If it makes you feel better, I can drill very, very slowly."

And unfortunately, he's here all week, folks. ;)  ;D  ;D

Not directly referencing any Cornell hockey alums, but it talks about NHL rookies: https://www.nytimes.com/2026/07/22/style/second-city-improv-athletes-nhl.html

I'm sure the flight tips will be useful anyway 😂

fwiw I recommend the UA itinerary but I am also a Star Alliance loser 💜

What airline do you recommend for an Albany to New Orleans trip in planning?
🤔

My preferred airline out of Syracuse is American but Delta is probably the best of the major US carriers

Ah, nothing quite like some summer time thread drift.....

Quote from: ugarte on July 21, 2026, 12:43:24 PMFocusing on championships in a tilted system is a waste of emotional resources.

This is going to sound smarmy and for that i apologize but you watch the games for the games. If I went to Brown, I'd be stuck rooting for Brown hockey and I would still watch. I know this because I root for the Pittsburgh Pirates and watch 150 games a year.

The lax championship was fucking great. The lesson is that if you make the tournament enough times, you'll win two games instead of one and then who knows what happens once it's down to four teams. You just have to win two games again.

What i know as a Cornell fan is that the university puts enough into the program to get A Chance out of it. I'm here for the ride, not the destination. But goddamn, what a fucking thrill the ride becomes once we approach the destination.

Case in point: https://youtu.be/EW3kgtLlpd4?is=g4vYuoPHD51GKrWX

Ken - can you re-post the link to your lists?

Chris there is no link, I compile the list myself.
I think he doesn't realize that you update the first post in the thread with new names
Correct - that's what I was missing. Thanks for 'splaining it.

As expected, a solid piece and a tearjerker to boot!

When, not if, Jane goes to work somewhere as a paid writer on hockey, I vote that we note her articles in future "Alumni in the pros" threads. She'll be an alumni, and a professional writer, and a damn good one.

Quote from: arugula on May 11, 2026, 02:45:08 PMI always liked, as many of us did, that Roberston fessed up and "blamed" his parents when he transferred--"can't ask my parents to keep paying this tuition."  That's just a much more politic, and charming, response to the question,

That's not even "blaming" though - it's just "money, currently, matters to the family". Which I think many of us can relate to! Especially given how damn much Cornell costs, and that Ivies don't give scholarships to athletes.

Be careful how you say this. Ivies don't give Athletic Scholarships, but they do give scholarships to athletes and many receive them.
Yeah - that is what I meant! Sorry for being technically wrong. I guess "Ivies don't give scholarships purely for athletics" is a better way to put it?

Yup.

Maybe I missed this in an earlier post, but I'm not having any luck bringing up the streaming broadcast. I have an ESPN subscription (via Disney Plus), but does that not include ESPNU?  Anyone else having this issue, or figured out the workaround?

Quote from: ursusminor on April 03, 2026, 02:27:39 PMSorry that I originally posted the following on the wrong thread.

I just felt like doing this for RPI.

It is obvious to me that only half of this list is of comparible NHL achievement to all of Cornell's. This makes me even happier that the currently known recruit list for 2026 is IMHO significantly better than Cornell's. (I add that neither Heisenberg's list nor CHN agrees with the 8 players Coach Lang hinted at recently. CHN includes these eight but also others who are unlikely to be arriving this year or in some cases ever. The coach said that he wants to add up to four more including from the evil portal.) BTW, I did not give Neil Little any credit for all the times that the Flyers recalled him only to be the backup sieve. The advantages of having an AHL team in the same town.

1. Adam Oates
2. Daren Puppa
3. JoƩ Juneau
4. Mike McPhee
5. Brian Pothier
6. Brandon Pirri
7. John Carter
8. Ken Hammond
9. Kraig Nienhuis
10.. Graeme Towhshend

Half that team was on the ice at the same time.  RPI '85 was something to see.

Wasn't Barrasso RPI, or have I gone insane?

Was Townshend the guy who Adessa (the coach is fat!!!) made his you can't do that clap clap, clap clap clap about?

Fat! Bald! Fat! Bald!
That was fun.

Actually that's probably the original version.  I believe BU then adopted it as "Go BU", to which we responded "Screw BU".  Although, TBH, the BU version may have come first and Michigan adopted it.

We added the "XXX, too" at the ECAC tournament at the Boston Garden in 1981.
I was at that tournament.  We beat Colgate in the semis, lost to Providence in the championship game. Fun trip to Boston and the Gahden.

Quote from: Chris H82 on March 29, 2026, 09:36:11 PMFYI for all - this is what the rink looked like on Friday, just before game time.
Delayed post - I had to sit at a real computer to figure out the guidance that stereax gave me for positing images, but even if I'd known this on Friday, I ain't no lemur on coke!

The atmosphere didn't really come through on the broadcast. I didn't hear much crowd noise except when Denver scored. Did you get the sense it was a significant home-style atmosphere for Denver? FWIW the atmosphere at the other regionals was mostly completely nonexistent except maybe during the two North Dakota games in Sioux Falls.
Yeah, there were a ton of Denver fans. They would get somewhat stirred up when Denver would have an opportunity. And during play there was the occasional "Let's go Pios" chant. We did some "Let's  go Red" for our guys.
But with the incessant piped-in music at stoppages, there didn't seem to be any dynamic of the DU supporters doing any cheers. Maybe it's different for games in their own arena?
