We do have 2 alums still active in the AHL playoffs. Colorado (Jacob MacDonald and Matt Stienburg) is down 1-0 in their conference final series against Chicago. MacDonald has definitely been playing, but I don't believe Stienburg has been in the lineup during the playoffs.

Malinski and the Avs were officially eliminated by Vegas last night, leaving us without any alums still playing in the league.

Vegas took a 3-0 series stranglehold over Colorado tonight. It was not Malinski's best game either, especially when he got turned inside out trying to defend Hertl on the rush, leading to the Vegas GWG.

Not a good night for Cornellians on Ottawa: after Guilday's own goal made it 1-0 Montreal, Jenner got walked on a shorty that made it 2-0, and then later committed another bad turnover leading to Montreal's 4th goal.

Montreal's first goal in game 4 of the Walter cup final is an own goal deflection off of Guilday's stick.

Looks like Sam is back in for Game 1 tonight, and with Makar out, he may get some time on the PP and PK:

According to reports, Malinski participated in "full practice" with the Avs this week, so hopefully he'll be good to go for game 1 of the WCF on Wednesday!

Malinski out of game 4 with an "upper body injury."

Quote from: nshapiro on May 05, 2026, 10:52:05 PMCommentator said earlier today that Malinski is a great find for the Avs.  Undrafted out of Lakeville MN and Cornell, but plays like a first round pick

Not just any commentator either: it was Erik Johnson, former #1 overall pick and Sam's teammate (and fellow Minnesotan and d-man) on Colorado last season.

Malinski vs Malott in game 1 of the Colorado-LA series. Sam had a strong first period, leading the Avs with 3 of their 9 SOG.

Quote from: ursusminor on April 19, 2026, 03:22:45 PMHeisenberg's list shows that Cornell got Ivan Zadvernyuk of Brown from the portal. I apologize if this was already mentioned.

Hopefully he chills out on the 83 PIMs from last season  :o

Sam is also Colorado's nominee for the King Clancy trophy:

With an assist last night, Malinski hits the 40 point mark for the season (8G, 32A). It's especially impressive given that he has gotten almost zero power-play time, except on the rare occasions when Makar and Toews are both out of the lineup.
