He's a former 5th round pick of the Bruins who played 4 years at Ferris State as an offensive-minded D-man. There isn't a ton of coaching experience on his resume, given his age, but he ran the powerplay during his 2 years as an assistant at Norwich, and he was apparently also the head golf coach there as well (which explains the odd photo athletics opted to run with the story).

QuoteWhat irked Dodson especially was the lack of communication from Cornell Athletics, she said, blaming Director of Athletics Nicki Moore for the mishap.

"If the previous athletic director, Andy Noel, was still there, I would have gotten a call, and I would have been included [in conversations about the move]," Dodson said.

One of the interesting tidbits was that Casey (and Schafer) instructed the players to avoid hitting during the North Country trip.

Hockey / College Hockey Gameday at Lynah Rink

The Everything College Hockey Youtube channel filmed a "Game Day" at Lynah on the day of the Harvard game. Despite knowing what the unfortunate game outcome will be, there's lots of fun behind-the-scenes footage from the morning skate, locker room, coaching and training areas, etc (and a brief interview with the AD):

Hockey / SLU 4 @ Cornell 2

Here are the penalties from the end-of-game fracas:

SLU:
Gunnar Hughes - 5 mins. fighting, 5 mins. spearing, Game DQ
Chris Martin - 5 mins. fighting, game DQ
Sean McGovern, Erik Sweetman, Tommy Thompson - 2 mins. roughing each

Cornell:
Matt Buckles - 5 mins. fighting, Game DQ
Holden Anderson - 5 mins. fighting, Game DQ
Jake Weidner, Jeff Kubiak, Cole Bardreau - 2 mins. roughing each

It looks like Hughes's spear was what started it all - I definitely saw Weidner down on the ice clutching his midsection as the brawl began. Classy stuff from their captain.

With an assist on the powerplay tonight, Riley Nash is still the leading scorer for Carolina: 4-7-11 in 14GP.

Rangers backup goalie, Cam Talbot, is "day-to-day" with an undisclosed injury and did not participate in the Rangers' first practice since winning the ECF. David Leneveu practiced instead and will back up Lundqvist if Talbot isn't ready to go by Wednesday.

...although I don't think this club goalie was taunting the fans like when Boucher was too busy thrusting his crotch toward Section B to actually tend goal.

Hockey / Giving the Faithful a run for their money

These Swedish fans don't stop cheering until their team comes out for a second(!) fan salute, which includes tumbling. As Puck Daddy puts it, "When's the last time you saw a hockey team emerge from the back to a curtain call like they're Pearl Jam on their third encore?"

Just a few alum-related updates from NHL training camps:

-Riley Nash and Sean Collins look to have shored up spots on the opening night rosters for Carolina and Columbus, respectively.
-Greg Miller remains on the training camp roster for the Islanders, but is likely to be sent down to Bridgeport before opening night.
-Nick D'Agostino was sent down to Wilkes-Barre by the Penguins earlier in training camp.
-I don't recall seeing it reported here, but Brendon Nash is now with the Rangers organization after signing an AHL contract last month to play in Hartford.
-Ben Scrivens doesn't seem to have any immediate competition for the backup goalie spot in Los Angeles

Anyone know Raymond Sawada's status? I believe he signed a one-year AHL deal with St. John's/Winnipeg in the summer of 2012, but haven't heard anything about him since the deal expired last month.
