Pete GodenschwagerheykbChris '03...It's like a play-in game for everyone. Yuck. You wouldn't want to see Colgate vs UNO? or Clarkson vs Michigan St? OK, there would be a few stinkers, but I see a lot of teams that are good enough to make the higher seed grumble about what a tough game they're playing in the first round. I think it would be a hoot. Even if we wind up playing a UNH or LSSU inby heykb - Hockey

Rita When deciding the seedings, I would like to see the committee somehow factor in your record in the last 16-20 games. I think if you are playing well at the end of the season, it should matter. It shows that you have taken care of business in your conference and conference tourney. I think that was the original logic of using the league tournament winner as the auto-entry vs the RS champby heykb - Hockey

Dpperk29why not make it so that the host school cannot play at home??? isn't basketball that way? Basically no. They just farm the teams out by seeding, with no more than a tweak so that #1's can play near their fan base.by heykb - Hockey

But then there would be controversy. {insert sound effect here} I'm pretty certain the whole reason for the strict pwr seedings is so the committee can say there wasn't any subjectivity. I kind of like your ideas around where the teams should play. I'm not so big on the wildcard idea. In its current form, I think going strictly by pwr has something to be said for it. Re: Cornell-Harvard TV event (+ ballpark tour) 2/18 in Philadelphia: Space is filling up, so ***REGISTER NOW*** - 18 years ago
I spoke with Janet yesterday. She said there will be over 400 people attending, far exceeding expectations. They are indeed cutting of registrations because they've reached capacity. Wow. My wife & I will be there in time to watch the hockey game. Please say hello if you see us. Karl Barth '77by heykb - Hockey
Re: Cornell at Princeton postgame thread 1/14/06 - 18 years ago
As we were leaving the rink, I commented to my friend and my son that I thought it would be hard for Schaefer to keep a straight face and say the usual platitudes about how Princeton played well, deserved to win, wanted it more, etc. We were in the section next to the band, so we had a very good view of Princeton's "offense" and I can tell you they didn't have much. Re: 2006-7 Schedule - 18 years ago
jtwcornell91{BU stuff snipped} I don't think we can dictate our non-conference slate like some seem to assume we can, but I wish we could get the BU rivalry restarted on a more regular basis, and I'm hoping Schafer and Sandelin came away from the Florida tournament with a good enough vibe to get something started with tUMD. I think this gets to the heart of the matter. A sustained non-conferby heykb - Hockey
Re: 2006-7 Schedule - 18 years ago
This is spot on. This year's Michigan St. set was reasonable. I can even understand a game with RIT to help RIT fill out their D-I schedule. But Niagara and such? There was a time where we scheduled BU every other year or so. We should be playing top tier non-conference opponents. BU/BC/UNH in the east, Mich/Minn/CC/UND in the west. I understood when we had Western Mich because the coaby heykb - Hockey

I'll be at Princeton with 2 others. We'll be at tonight's Penn-CU basketball game too, since that's 20 minutes away, as opposed to several hours to get to Q for hockey. Karl Barth '77by heykb - Hockey
Re: [OT] a whiney Tulane student rant - 18 years ago
"The courses are easier than at Tulane." It does make you wonder what courses he was taking. And his comments about ornithology and the hotel school being the only claims to academic fame were, um, how about "ignorant." Maybe he should walk around campus once in a while, he might stumble across a famous astronomer, economist, engineer, or veterinarian. {biting my tongueby heykb - Hockey

ECAC vs HE, a modest proposal - 18 years ago
Taking a page from basketball, where the ACC played (plays?) the Big East as a kind of season-opening challenge series...wouldn't it be a great college hockey event if the ECAC met HE at the beginning of the year? <dreaming big dreams> The format could be #1 vs #1, etc., down to #10 vs #10 based on prior year's regular season standings. 5 games played in Albany, 5 in Boston, all on theby heykb - Hockey
Re: 4-Point Weekend - 18 years ago
This also helps demonstrate why "Screw BU" is so burned into the Cornell hockey culture. It's hard to imagine two teams operating at such a high level, simultaneously, like that. I graduated in '77 and I can tell you from firsthand experience that when BU came into Lynah, it felt like they were the Bruins, not the Terriers. Cornell could score 6 or 8 or 10 against other ECAC teams bby heykb - Hockey
Re: Quest for #1 seed - 19 years ago
I agree with Jacob. I spent way too much time fiddling with this yesterday. The bottom line is if we win twice, we have a very very good chance of a #1 seed. I don't remember all the scenarios I twiddled, but I think these were some of them: - If Minnesota loses twice and we win once, we get a #1 seed. - If we win twice and Denver doesn't win twice, we get a #1 seed. - If BC loses and wby heykb - Hockey

eLF newbie - old fan - 19 years ago
I was trolling around a little using the eLF search to see what's been talked about it recently (and not so recently). I saw a reference to the 10-9 UNH victory over CU at the 1977 ECAC semi's in the Gahden. That game was probably the most exciting Cornell hockey loss I've ever seen. For one thing, it seemed like everyone except the ushers had a goal in that game. For another, it wasn't againby heykb - Hockey
