Re: Women's Frozen Four Thread - 13 years ago
I only got to four women's games this season, but I enjoyed every one of them. (My frequent road-trip habit means I miss most of the women's home games because I'm at the men's away games.) If I didn't feel as much of a connection as I do to the players on this year's men's team, and their parents, I'd be much more willing to let the annoyances piling up with Atlantic City push me westward insteaby mha - Hockey
Re: Atlantic City hotels - 13 years ago
For those who don't mind staying a few miles outside Atlantic City, my contacts at Marriott have pointed out that a tempting alternative to the Fairfield Inn mentioned above by Beeeej is their Fairway Villa property. It's $169/night for a two-bedroom, two-bath VILLA. (A little cheaper if you're a AAA member.) For a bigger group, that'd probably work really well.by mha - Hockey
Re: Yale Roll Call/Places to Eat and Drink 02/26/11 (and Brown 02/25/11 too) - 13 years ago
Snickers acquired. I am not a fan of that Wal-Mart. I am, however, a fan of Sam Adams and Frank Pepe's.by mha - Hockey

Re: Yale Roll Call/Places to Eat and Drink 02/26/11 (and Brown 02/25/11 too) - 13 years ago
I'm heading to New Haven in a bit. Anyone staying nearby with hotel suggestions? I was thinking about the Fairfield Inn in Milford for cheap rate, free breakfast, and right off the interstate for ease of departure tomorrow, but I can be convinced otherwise. (Especially if you have a spare bed.) I'll be looking for postgame suggestions, too. Oh, and I could provide a ride back to Ithaca if needby mha - Hockey
Re: Cornell V Colgate - 13 years ago
That's great, but is presumably intended to be a discount for youth hockey players or something like that. Make sure you don't find yourself unable to get past a skeptical usher with your youth ticket!by mha - Hockey
$99 Marriott rooms in Newark - 13 years ago
Two Newark-area Marriott properties are offering a surprisingly good $99/night deal for Thanksgiving weekend, good November 24 through November 27, if you book by tomorrow. Neither is in downtown Newark, but both the Renaissance Newark Airport Hotel and Newark Liberty Airport Marriott ought to have decent mass-transit connections to downtown.by mha - Hockey
Re: North Country road trip - 13 years ago
Not a nickel, and not free, but $4 bags on sale for $2 isn't bad!by mha - Hockey
Re: North Country road trip - 13 years ago
If any ol' candy would do, I have loads left from the weekend. I got a total of five trick-or-treaters. But the roving Faithful deserve Snickers.by mha - Hockey
Re: North Country road trip - 13 years ago
Jim Hyla It looks like I may not make SLU. If not, anyone want to throw Snickers? I'll try to pick some up on our way out of town.by mha - Hockey
North Country road trip - 13 years ago
Looking forward to an early-November road trip to St. Lawrence and Clarkson for a change! But when I started looking a couple of weeks ago, there were no hotel rooms left along the Canton-Potsdam trail. We've got a reservation in Massena, but if any of you have a just-in-case reservation in Canton you won't be using, I'd love to take it off your hands! Sue tells me the ticket office has ticketby mha - Hockey
Re: The Jersey - 13 years ago
imafrshmn aside from the similarity to BU, i don't think they are all that bad. at least it's not a non-traditional look with ugly graphics and such. anyway, the away jerseys should remain the same i believe. I gather the new away jerseys match the new home jerseys. And, I don't think these jerseys are ugly. I just think they're wrong. :-\by mha - Hockey
Re: The Jersey - 13 years ago
I got a couple closer-up pictures of Andy Iles that show the helmet. I wouldn't be surprised he's got the helmet done already. He's an Ithaca native who's paid attention to Big Red Hockey his whole life. I bet he's been working on the helmet for months.by mha - Hockey
Re: Alumni in the Pros - September 2010 - 13 years ago
According to the Globe and Mail, Ben Scrivens '10 is slated to take over the Maple Leafs goal halfway through tonight's game against the Ottawa Senators. Go Ben! It appears the game will be on the NHL Network, running tonight at 11pm, unless that's a time-zone glitch in the web listing.by mha - Hockey
Hobey Baker "hat trick" finalists announced - 14 years ago
The Hobey Baker Memorial Award Foundation on Wednesday announced the three Hobey Hat Trick finalists for the 2010 Hobey Baker Memorial Award, honoring college hockey’s top player. Alphabetically, they are: Bobby Butler, senior forward from Univ. of New Hampshire; Blake Geoffrion, senior forward from Univ. of Wisconsin; and Gustav Nyquist, sophomore forward from Univ. of Maine. The three finby mha - Hockey
Driving up from NYC on Friday? - 14 years ago
Please drop me a note if you are and have room for a passenger. I have a friend stranded by flight cancellations who was supposed to get back today and is right now being told it may be Saturday evening before she can fly LGA-ITH. Thanks!by mha - Hockey
Re: Cornell vs. UNH Viewing Locations Thread - 14 years ago
With all the wind advisories and winter weather advisories from Ithaca to Albany to Springfield to Durham, we're not driving out. Is there already a viewing plan for Ithaca? If not, I'll volunteer my TV.by mha - Hockey
Re: Frozen Four Happy Hour - Friday - 15 years ago
Friday evening's the one night I don't have plans, and might want to schedule things with other friends in the area -- though if we can drag random non-Cornellian friends, that could work, too.by mha - Hockey
Re: Grand Rapids Roll Call - 15 years ago
I'll ask around, but I'm betting the Black Rose or Bull's Head Tavern will be good options. The bar in the J.W. Marriott will also be convenient, but might be pricey.by mha - Hockey
Re: Grand Rapids Roll Call - 15 years ago
I'm tentatively going, and leaning toward driving from Ithaca. Just grabbed a hotel reservation for a room with two queen beds, which should allow for up to four of us if people are happy to share. Anyone need bed space?by mha - Hockey
Re: Could Cornell be a host team? - 15 years ago
BeeeejI can understand why someone used to just getting off the subway and immediately being inside Madison Square Garden might find a few blocks' walk an indignity, but it's really not bad, and I hate the PATH. I was much more offended by whatever it cost to park in the garage a couple of blocks away for the Devils game, but for a tournament, I'd probably stay somewhere I could leave the carby mha - Hockey

I'm very quiet and reserved, especially about hockey.by mha - Hockey
Found your sweatshirt at Harvard - 15 years ago
After the rink was nearly empty, I spotted a grey Cornell Athletics sweatshirt under the back row of seats around section 19 or so. No one nearby knew whose it was. If you or someone you know is its owner, get in touch! mha@14850.com or here. I'll bring it back to Ithaca with me.by mha - Hockey
Customer Service Win - The Crimson Ticket Office - 15 years ago
Just got a call a little while ago from a very apologetic guy at Harvard's athletic ticket office. It turns out that because this Saturday's game is going to be televised, they have to put up a camera stand right where one of my seats was. Would I mind if they moved me a couple of rows closer to the ice? There are always horror stories about one ticket office or another on the hockey circuit,by mha - Hockey
Re: Cornell 2 Quinnipiac 1 (Postgame Thread) - 15 years ago
Sounds about right. Arthur called it a "red flag" to make the league aware there was an issue.by mha - Hockey

We're singing. Why aren't you?by mha - Hockey
Re: Important message to ice hockey ticket holders - 15 years ago
Yup, Athletics will be happiest when we're all sitting politely in our seats, silently enjoying the game with our hands clasped in our laps.by mha - Hockey
Re: Cornell 3 RPI 0 Postgame - 15 years ago
My pleasure. I figured someone had to serve as the Emergency Backup Jim! And I have to say, it was a lot easier at Union than at RPI. The Cornell fans at Houston were too spread out by their luck-of-the-draw ticket sales approach.by mha - Hockey
Re: Union & RPI Roll Call - 15 years ago
I do like earning those reward points, but more important to me is having better control over where I end up. I could specify "Downtown Albany" and still be in walking distance to nothing. No thanks.by mha - Hockey
