Final in Chicago - 19 years ago
A friend and I have decided that it's better to waste time drinking beer and watching TV than listening over the 'net and checking scores obsessively. I'm not guaranteeing anything, but we're meeting here: Sports Corner Grill 956 W Addison St Their Metromix profile mentions that Ivy Leagers (specifically Cornellians and Yalies) sometimes watch games there. Why the AHA matters, or the Wisconsin Booby Prize - 19 years ago
Given: Wisconsin is currently a likely #4 seed. Wisconsin, despite their horrendous late-season slide, is #7 in the KRACH. Colgate, Dartmouth, or Vermont is likely to be the other "Big 4" #4 seed. Should we end up the #3 or #4 seed, our counterpart seed will likely be Minnesota or DU. Result: We get screwed. How can this be avoided? Mercyhurst wins the AHA title, givingby Scersk '97 - Hockey

Thanks, John - 19 years ago
Since the advent of more rational methods for determining the NCAA field, anyone with a rudimentary understanding of math has realized that every game is crucially important in the seeding process. Through constant proselitizing by John, Adam, and others, and through the generally thoughtful analysis available on USCHO, I think the average, non-math-inclined fan now grasps this concept. Re: Quest for #1 seed - 19 years ago
I don't think we can win the ECAC championship and see 5 ECAC(HL) teams in the NCAAs anymore. Stupid Michigan State. Oh well, guess we'll have to settle with winning the tourney (hopefully) and getting 4 ECAC(HL) teams in. Mwah-ha-ha-ha! Oh, the westerners will be mad. I would also get a certain amount of satisfaction from seeing only one bid for the CCHA, especially if, say, Michigan wereby Scersk '97 - Hockey

And defending our Cornellian colors, sadly, does not result in "Cornell, victorious to the end." The accepted spelling of "Tee Fee Crane" has never been "Teefy." Man... utter lack of proofreading. It's not like these things are a matter of oral history: all they would have had to do was refer to "Songs of Cornell."by Scersk '97 - Hockey

Re: SUCKS or Toothpaste - 19 years ago
Since neither Harvard nor Colgate are likely to win any popularity contets with Cornell fans, wouldn't it be more fun just to trivialize both schools at the same time? My suggestion: fake Harvard and Colgate signs to tape to your Cornell regalia. Assign a group to Harvard, assign a group to Colgate, and have fun yelling at each other during the game. Re: Clarkson's band - 19 years ago
Yale's marching band had a good sound back then, but their band was hockey MIA as far as I remember. 98 and 99 seemed to energize their fan base. From what I heard from the @ Yale game this year, though, it seems like their band and fan base might even be able to make it through a horrible year like this one.by Scersk '97 - Hockey

Re: Bracketology Sunday - 19 years ago
You are right, of course, Chris. There have been many threads discussing the as yet ill-defined behavior of the committee in a 16-team tournament. We don't exactly know what they'd do. Yet, as JTW has stated most forcefully elsewhere, the next directive after placing host schools is for the committee to place #1 seeds closest to home in order. I think the likelihood of the committee shippiby Scersk '97 - Hockey

I said it in another thread , and Ken '70 backed it up, but there are two things that matter in the upcoming weeks regarding the PWR: 1) MN loses the #1 seed. 2) We stay a #2 or move up. Or you could reduce that to one thing: 1) Avoid Mariucci. If MN drops to a #2 seed, we avoid them whether we're a #1 seed or not. OK, just because I like to believe that I have a lot of time on my hands, I ran the script using the admittedly error-bar-tastic KRACH to predict the rest of the results.
