Re: Bracketology Starts - 6 years ago
If you are trying to maximize ticket sales AND Penn State has effectively sold out Allentown already, then Cornell in Bridgeport makes most sense.by KenP - Hockey

11 of 15 games this weekend were won by the lower seed team. Wow.by KenP - Hockey
Re: Bracketology Starts - 6 years ago
Of course if Denver knocks Cornell to the #5 spot, none of that matters. It is mathematically impossible for Cornell to be #5. They will be 3 or 4.by KenP - Hockey
Re: Bracketology Starts - 6 years ago
Based on results so far Cornell is 100% guaranteed to be #4 or higher in PWRby KenP - Hockey

Re: Quinnipiac QF Game 2 - 6 years ago
One question I forgot to ask. What's up with not one but two major penalties? After the lengthy reviews I'll trust the refs that they were called right. IMO no excuse for committing a major penalty. Was it a mistake? Are we just a bunch of goons? Was it that easy for them to get under our skin?by KenP - Hockey
Re: Frozen Apple 2018 - 6 years ago
Beeeej Jim Hyla BUCUhockey Has Cornell announced who the opponent will be for the Frozen Apple 2018 at MSG ? Not that I know. ...but thank you for reminding me that I hadn't yet made the 2018-19 Schedule thread "sticky." Along those lines you can probably "unstick" the 2017-2017 Schedule thread.by KenP - Hockey
Re: Cornell vs. Princeton--ECAC Semis - 6 years ago
Jim Hyla BearLover Once a game gets out of reach for the other team, watching the rest of the game is like watching with the outcome predetermined--not why I follow sports. There is nothing so thrilling as hanging onto every lose puck, every shot, every tip, every rebound, knowing full well it could decide the game. With that said, I'd probably amend my post to say I prefer the 3-2 nailbitersby KenP - Hockey

adamw KenP 15 games left, one can be a tie. That means 2^15 + 1 = 32,769 possible outcomes. I’d be curious to see a version of the CHN Pairwise Probability Matrix that ignores KRACH and simply shows haw many (or what percentage of) scenarios work out to who is in the tourney at what seeding. I tried this a bunch of times before giving up on figuring out a good way to code out, and going withby KenP - Hockey

Re: Best Freshman Class? - 6 years ago
redice adamw BeeeejI didn't feel quite the same way the next day when Colgate beat us 4-0 in the consy, but 1998 and 1999 had been disappointing enough after the incredible highs of 1996 and 1997 that 2000 still felt pretty good. Those class of '03 guys just kept getting better, and I truly believe in my heart that if UNH had played a game the same day we thrashed Quinnipiac in the 2002 NCAA openby KenP - Hockey
Re: Bracketology Starts - 6 years ago
Cornell gets the #1 overall IF: Cornell wins out AND St. Cloud is held to one point or less (semi-final loss AND loss or tie in the consolation game) The CHN Monte Carlo simulation shows a non-zero chance of Cornell at the #5 PWR. Denver needs to beat St. Cloud in the finals AND Ohio State needs to lose AND all RPI factors work to bump Ohio State up to #4 despite a loss: ECAC Semifinal #1:by KenP - Hockey

marty KenP Our win coupled with Mankato’s loss was a huge gain for us as playoffstatus.com now shows 99% chance of a #1 seed (up from 82). Also shows an 8% chance (up from 2) of dethroning St Cloud as the #1 overall. Discuss Argue. I am more curious about what permutations create what at this point... 1. Re: Mathematical Models - 6 years ago
jtwcornell91 KenP It sounds like you are trying to replace a deterministic KRACH rating with a probabilistic distribution. It wouldn't be a normal distribution instead relative to rating. Higher ratings would have PDF weighted downwards and vice versa for near-zero ratings. From there you could assess the uncertainty in absolute chance-of-winning statements. Well, it's not a matter of non-deby KenP - Hockey

Re: Frozen Four Tickets 2018 - 6 years ago
Just curious.. how hard is it to score FF tickets after the Regionals are complete? Is there a USCHO exchange thread or something similar? All bets are off if the Goophers are one of the four teams. Their fans will pack the place.by KenP - Hockey
Re: Polls 2017-18 - 6 years ago
Beeeej jeff '84 Still #2 in both polls. Not that it matters, but any thoughts as to why Notre Dame (#2 in PWR via their better RPI vs Cornell) still haven’t convinced the voters (#5 in USCHO; #4 in USA Today, who by now usually buy into the computer numbers. They've lost four of their last five. That's not a small thing. But according to KRACH they have a 65% chance of beating Penn Statby KenP - Hockey

BearLover KenP St. Cloud has basically wrapped up the #1 overall. Cornell is one of the next five teams vying for #2-6, with the rest of the pack looking at #7 and lower. Interesting to see the gradual decline in our chances for a #1 seed. Still pretty good... but the odds of a #2 seed are now up to 28%. Scersk '97 BigRedHockeyFan Cornell over Quinnipiac in 2; (Game 1: 10-0, Game 2: 10-0) Not to bring reality and fear to this discussion, but I would rather we were playing just about any of the other remaining lower seeds—certainly Dartmouth and Princeton, and perhaps even Colgate. Strangely, I am happy we have a potentially tough opponent this weekend. I'm still wary of our weaker schedule anby KenP - Hockey
