Re: CC-Minnesota Saturday 3/22 - 21 years ago
With a Minn. win, Cornell would've been 1st or 4th in PWR (but still a #1 seed) depending on our result tonight.by jkahn - Hockey

Re: Root for Brown Tomorrow - Just in case - 21 years ago
In answer to Andy's question, we should be able to figure out the final rankings of the top four, even if they are not officially announced. That's because the committee has stated that they will bracket the tournament such that if all four #1's advance, the semis would have 1 vs. 4 and 2 vs. 3.by jkahn - Hockey
Re: You are the Committee - 21 years ago
In various scenarios I've run after Friday's games, it looks like the #1 seeds will be CC, Cornell, UNH and either Minn. if they win or Maine. I'm sure Minn. would love to get by CC and thereby send CC out of the Minn. regional and into Ann Arbor. The only way Maine seems to finish behind BU is if Minn. wins, and then it doesn't matter. If Brown loses tomorrow, they'll fall out of being a TUC,by jkahn - Hockey
Re: Closest Regional - 21 years ago
using www.indo.com/distance it's 241 to Worcester, 265 to Providence. But if Providence makes the tournament, it's close enough that they could decide to send us there to avoid the UNH-Providence match-up.by jkahn - Hockey
Re: Chicagoland Cornellians Watching the Games - 21 years ago
My home in Flossmoor (Chicagoland South Suburbs) is available as a viewing option for all Faithful, Friday and Saturday. Anyone interested should e-mail me - I suggest you include a phone number where you can be reached tomorrow so I can get you good directions. I'm about 45-50 minutes from either the Loop or O'Hare. I would've posted earlier, but was toying with the idea of trading my United mby jkahn - Hockey

Re: YES tape-delaying Cornell semifinal? - 21 years ago
I note from the above referenced site that YES will also delay the final on Saturday due to commitments on the Nets telecast. NESN shows the final as being on live, but with the Bruins in LA, there could be problems if the game goes to overtime. Is there a time limit on the consolation game or do they play until there's a winner? NESN Schedule: 7:00 PM ECAC HOCKEY '03 (L) MEN'S CHAMPIONSHIPby jkahn - Hockey
Re: Last perfect Lynah season? - 21 years ago
It was Harvard that turned us in regarding Titanic's eligibilty. Gene Kinasewich, former Harvard player, was working in the AD's office, and I remember that he played a key role. Ironically, Kinasewich younger brother Bob was Cornell '67, and played wing on Murray Death's line.by jkahn - Hockey

No. Dak. wins - pretty much finishing Denver's season and definitely helping Harvard's chanceby jkahn - Hockey
Re: Last perfect Lynah season? - 21 years ago
Decloe had played tier 1 Jr. A hockey before coming to BU, which was not allowed by ECAC or NCAA rules at the time. My recollection was that Harvard took a lead role in turning them in. I also watched that 9-0 game on TV. PBS ran an ECAC game of the week series on Saturday afternoon - I watched on Channel 13 in NY. Decloe had played half the season, and with the forfeits BU would have been theby jkahn - Hockey
Re: If we can bring Coke to Pepsi Arena, can we bring Krispy Kremes to Providenc - 21 years ago
Just a bit of trivia - there was a section I through at least 'the '71-72 season. At that point there was no Section O. In '72-'73 or shortly thereafter, Section I was eliminated and the subsequent letters all moved around one section.by jkahn - Hockey
RPI and RPI & PWR - 21 years ago
Even with a sweep of RPI this weekend, our RPI will decrease. That's because with an .8448 winning percentage, the two wins will only raise it to .8548. Playing RPI twice will, all other things being equal this weekend, lower our opponents' winning percentage by roughly the same .0100. However, since the latter factor gets a 50% weighting vs. only 25% for our own winning percentage, the RPI wby jkahn - Hockey

Re: new Braketology - 21 years ago
We've got two good wins vs. BU, although home good wins don't count as much as road good wins. We also have the road win at Ohio State, which is a good win if OSU finishes in the top 15.by jkahn - Hockey
Re: new Braketology - 21 years ago
There's a mistake in the USCHO article regarding the Frozen Four pairings. It correctly explains that the regions are bracketed such that "if all four number-one seeds advance, then the top overall seed plays the No. 4 overall, and No. 2 plays No. 3" but then goes on to say that East would meet Northeast. In the current scenario, East would meet Midwest in the semi-finals, as UNH is #by jkahn - Hockey
Re: Keenan on Cornell - 21 years ago
I was at both the 7-0 and 7-2 games in '69-'70. They definitely were a lot of fun to watch. Cornell's style at the time could be better described as "head-manning the puck," i.e. trying to get the puck to the offense player who was furthest up the ice. In the spring of '70, in a conversation with Ned, I heard him lament the fact that with the exception of Montreal, NHL teams played tby jkahn - Hockey
Re: Bracketology article - 21 years ago
ECAC results this weekend should only have a minimal impact on our RPI. In Opponents' Winning Percentage, for every win added there'd be a loss added. An upset would actually help temporarily, for example, a win for Princeton would move their winning pct. up by more than Brown's goes down. Unfortunately, this would be dramatically offset the next week if we added two (or heaven forbid three) gby jkahn - Hockey

Re: Frozen Four - 21 years ago
Do the allotments given to the schools include both semi-final games? If that's the case, it would help provide some possible sellers to the other game; although, unlike Minnesota fans who could just go home or back to campus last year, most visiting fans in Buffalo will choose to attend the other game.by jkahn - Hockey

Re: Most likely upset this weekend - 21 years ago
Unfortunately, winning two vs. Princeton will hurt our RPI and therefore hurt the all important PWR. Last Friday's win against Princeton caused us to lose ground on Maine and fall closer to those behind us, even though Maine lost to BU on Friday, who we've defeated twice. That's why 1) we have the above comments and 2) KRACH makes a lot more sense.by jkahn - Hockey

I've heard some claim that #5 is the longest street in the world. Don't really know what makes a street a street vs. a highway, though. More importantly, it's the street you'd take if you were walking from Air Canada Centre to Maple Leaf Gardens or vice versa.by jkahn - Hockey
Re: CCM Cornell hockey cap? - 21 years ago
I purchased a couple of the CCM Cornell Hockey hats in May 1999 over the 'net. It was through a store somewhere in New York State I think. I had gotten the lead on where to buy them on the old Cornell Hockey Discussion Forum. I had bookmarked the order tracking page, which was at www.prowebwear.com. Unfortunately, that site no longer seems to be functioning, but perhaps if Pro Webwear mergedby jkahn - Hockey
Re: poor grades? - 21 years ago
When I graduated in '70, there was a sheet showing GPA by quartile which Cornell used to send out with grad school applications. 2.90 was the 75th percentile, i.e. top 25 % of class. I'm not sure if that was for Cornell as a whole or the Arts school. In Chem 107 I remember Professor Sienko telling us the curve would be 10% A's, 15% B's, 50% C's, 15% D's and 10% F's. Times have certainly changby jkahn - Hockey
Re: Murray's Penalty/NO GOAL - 21 years ago
For what it's worth, the Dartmouth student announcer thought it was definitely a high stick, and after the call on Murray following the goal said "Cornell's really getting shafted here." But let's not dwell on that; as hockey players say "c'est la vie." The announcer did an excellent job of play-by-play - I immediately knew who got each goal (even when it was Chris Abbott) aby jkahn - Hockey
