Re: Union @ Cornell - 1 year ago
Trotsky Fastest 4 in NHL is apparently 80 seconds during this fascinating game, during which Boston also had 3 goals in a different 51 second interval. Carlo Ugolini had 4 goals in 51 seconds in a freshmen game my senior year. Two of those were unassisted, where he won the faceoff to himself and skated up ice and scored. If I recall correctly, the opponent was the Dixie Beehives Jr. B team fromby jkahn - Hockey

chimpfood I think it’s time for the pairwise to give more than a 20 percent bonus for away games. If you look around the ncaa this year there are some tremendous differences in home vs away record. Just in the ECAC harvard and Q are undefeated at home, we have one loss at home and are below .500 away. Even Yale is hovering around .500 at home. It's actually a 50% bonus compared with a home win, siby jkahn - Hockey

George64 In White Lotus, perhaps the most obnoxious character, among a host of really unlikable characters, Shane Patton, apparently went to Cornell, at least he wears a Cornell cap in episode 4, season 1. His put-upon wife, who’s the only likable character so far, went to SUNY Potsdam. In season 2, the similarly (or even more) obnoxious character went to Yale. Re: Cornell lacrosse 2023 & schedule - Ivy Tournament date/site - 1 year ago
TimV Trotsky Does Ivy lax have a Mecca like the Palestra is for Ivy basketball? Is it at Princeton? Yes. Lower Alumni Field, where the barking ghost of Ned Harkness can still be heard late at night. Loved just being able to stand on the sideline and watch the game with the same perspective as the players had on the opposite sideline.by jkahn - Other Sports
Re: Polls - 1 year ago
BearLover There are of course a lot of different ways things can go. But there are only two teams in the league that are (IMO) better than us, and if we want to win the ECAC it’s easier if we only have to beat one of them. If Q and Harvard get the 1 and 4 seeds, then we don’t have to beat them both. It’s not the biggest concern in the world, but it’s a tiebreaker when choosing who to root for iby jkahn - Hockey

Last year. Berard's shooting reminded me of Alex DeBrincat. Last night, his passing was like Patrick Kane's. Both his assists were gorgeous. I thought the team puck and player movement in the offensive zone was much improved from earlier in the season.by jkahn - Hockey

Trotsky jkahnwhere he was asked about his good chemistry with Lowry... Did he namecheck Joel? No mention of Joel in the interview. Joel is currently playing in German for a DEL-2 team (2nd division, I'm sure JTW can elaborate more on DEL-2 hockey). He's leading his team in scoring.by jkahn - Hockey

Re: Topher Scott - 1 year ago
Congrats to both Topher and to Michigan for making an excellent choice. Topher is the perfeect antidote to all the issues the Michigan hockey program has recently faced. If you follow his twitter account at all - he's been very willing to confront the issue of abusiveness from coaches and others in the sports. ursusminor IIRC, all of the hockey-playing New England state schools were ECAC-II until UNH became ECAC-I a couple of years later. That's correct. UNH's first year in ECAC Div. 1 was '66-'67, my freshman year, but they were still playing a lot of Div. 2 games that year.by jkahn - Hockey
Re: 2022 Incoming Recruits - 1 year ago
There's a 3rd goalie whose name is cut off on the prior posts, Andrew Oke (Okie or Oak?). Keopple's older sister plays for Princeton, so perhaps Arthur, Grady, or Jason can enlighten us on pronunciation. On Keopple's twitter and instagram pages, he uses Remi, so that seems easy enough to pronounce. They are playing at 10 EDT tonight. abmarks Here's one that got away...I hadn't heard this story before. Ron's interest in Cornell continued though, as his daughter did go to Cornell. That was instrumental in his trading to Edmonton for the rights to Riley Nash, as Ron (Carolina GM at the time) had seen Riley play several games at Lynah.by jkahn - Hockey

Cam Abbott continues to develop NHL talent as coach of Rogle in Sweden. Marco Kasper of Rogle was selected by Detroit as the 8th player picked in the first round of the NHL draft. This season's Calder Trophy winner was another Red Wing and former Rogle player, Moritz Seider. Chris Abbott is Rogle's GM.by jkahn - Hockey

French Rage But are the NoDak fans concerned? Probably, they wound up picking up two games vs. Lindenwood to fill the gap. On the other hand, after losing two to Cornell last year, they may feel good about the change.by jkahn - Hockey
Re: 2022-23 Men's Schedule - 1 year ago
The scheduling debacle regarding the North Dakota series obviously left us scrambling late to fill the schedule. Over a year ago, North Dakota was scheduled to be at Lynah this coming Jan. 6 and 7 but somehow the ECAC either wasn't informed (or didn't care?) and scheduled conference games for us the same weekend, causing us to have to push back North Dakota another two years. Re: Ertel to OHL - 1 year ago
ithacat Justin Ertel has jumped to the OHL. I find it interesting that the GM of his OHL team had this to say: “The level he was playing is as close to pro hockey as you’re going to get, when you’re playing 24-, 25-year-old guys, and roles are different. What you’re going to see when he’s playing against kids his own age in our league is he’s going to be a much more offensive contributor. He’s gby jkahn - Hockey

blackwidow An email from Schafer mentions that Gabriel Seger from Union will join as a transfer. Also, Ryan McInchak, goaltender from AIC as a transfer. Seger has played 3 years for Union, but since he'd have two years of eligibility left there, I am hoping that he has two years of eligibility at Cornell, should he choose to take two years to graduate. Iceberg UND's schedule doesn't seem to have a series at Lynah for next season. I can't find the link, but they released their schedule earlier in the week North Dakota's schedule shows Jan. 6-7 Nonconference TBD. So it may take some schedule juggling by one team or both to make the series happen in '22-'23.
