Re: ECAC Early Departures - 8 years ago
Chris '03 I guess this fits here as well as anywhere. Harvard cheaters' waiver denied: I was just going to post this in the Sucks Harvards thread...by Robb - Hockey

Cool! So looks like a bit of both - part of a trend, but also an all-time low since You Know Who started coaching in the 60s.by Robb - Hockey

6 United Statians and 3 Canadians. Seems unusual - or is this consistent with recent trends and I just haven't been paying attention?by Robb - Hockey

Kyle Rose David Harding Another monster apartment building in Collegetown A lot more than one monster apartment building is needed to bring rents back to sane levels on the hill. What are rents these days? When I was there (90-94), $300/person/month would get you a crappy dive, but I have no clue how much the luxe apartments in C-town were going for - never even considered going that route.by Robb - John Spencer Is Dead

Robb Swampy Jim Hyla Okay, our season is over, but there is still news. The question is will anyone read this? Four lacrosse players are AAs. Buczek, Stevens, Donovan, and Cook were named AA, while Buczek won the Senior CLASS Award for lacrosse. Kudos to all four, especially Buczek for AA & CLASS. But can this quote in the article about the CLASS award possibly be right? Cornell Athleby Robb - Other Sports

Re: Lacrosse 2015 NCAAs - Albany @ Cornell - 9 years ago
Every so often - less than once per generation - a player, coach, or team introduces something new that fundamentally alters the way the game is played. No, I'm not talking about Lyle Thompson's amazing performance and career - I'm talking about the 2015 Cornell offense, who will go down in history as the unit which caused the NCAA to start keeping track of a new stat: the Shotover. Shots so poby Robb - Other Sports

jtwcornell91 Wait, lax has a play-in now? I wonder, if the MAAC autobid situation in hockey happened now, if they would have let us go from 12 to 13 teams with a playin...You only get a playin if the number of autobids > number of tourney slots / 2. That is, at least half the participants (in the main tourney) have to be at large. Lacrosse has 10 conferences and a 16-team tourney, so they hby Robb - Other Sports

Beeeej I'll narrow it down a little further between Greg's and Rich's recollections; I'm roughly 95% certain that we weren't doing it when I started attending games in November, 1987, and that we were doing it by either the Boston Garden semifinal loss to RPI in 1990 or the Boston Garden semifinal loss to SLU in 1991. Sorry I can't be more specific.I'm as certain as I can be about anything 25by Robb - Hockey
Re: Maryland: Make frosh ineligible in football, basketball - 9 years ago
The fact that an overall athletic department "loses money" (according to the highly-paid university accountants) in no way detracts from the truth that big-time athletic departments are, in fact, cash cows. They generate tens of millions in income, revenue, AND, yes, cash flow. The only sad part is that schools exclusively choose to plow that cash right back into coaches' and administby Robb - Other Sports

Well, I searched back about 9 pages and didn't find a thread any more appropriate than this one, so I'm putting it here: The "anti-Nick Boucher" stays in net, makes save while he thinks the game isn't going on...by Robb - Hockey
Re: Cornell 9 @ Harvard 10 lax - 9 years ago
Agree - turnovers were an absolute killer. When you go 17-for-23 on faceoffs and hold the other team to 10 goals, you should win every game. Also agree about the offense - the only focus seems to be to get our shooters' hands free, but even if the shooter's hands are free, it's a save or block if the defense and goalie are set. Need much more dynamic movement of the ball and the players withouby Robb - Other Sports

Dafatone Kyle Rose Jim Hyla RichH All I can say at this point is that it's a shame that jtwcornell91 doesn't check in here more often. Because this thread. Because this thread needs him(?). billhoward Harvard up 3-0 1st, leads 3-2 second, 2 ENGs to win 5-2. Does Q have enough from the regular season to make the big dance (skate)? Re: huge LAX game @ Virginia today - 9 years ago
ugarte scoop85 I like basketball enough, but it's preposterous for any sport to take 20+ minutes of real time to play the last 2-3 minutes of the game; waiting for that HS hoops game to end was excrutiating. Something's got to be done to reduce time outs and improve the flow of basketball at all levels. Re: ECAC 2014-15 - 9 years ago
Give My Regards Trotsky Ordinarily I'm a big fan of regression as an explanation, but Harvard had so many serious injuries to so many key personnel happen within such a short amount of time that I really do think that's what is the major factor. I admit I haven't been paying much attention to the Crimson's injury situation. I just thought that the team woke up on New Year's Day and collectivelby Robb - Hockey

Re: What a difference one goal makes - 9 years ago
There was a guy on LaxPower who tried to make this same argument about JHU lacrosse - just X more goals, Y more groundballs, and Z more faceoffs and they'd be national champs! It was nonsense then, and it's nonsense now. He forgot that while he was asking for small improvements in raw numbers, he was asking for nearly 25% improvements overall. Re: Lowry injury update - 9 years ago
BearLover Trotsky BearLoverAs far as the team is concerned, the season is essentially over. Lowry was just about the only capable offensive player Cornell had left. No chance at an at-large bid and the rest of the conference can actually score. Disagree strongly. As long as we keep holding opponents to 2 goals or fewer, we will have plenty of chances to win games. Once the playoffs come aroby Robb - Hockey

ugarte Mandatory attendance is fine in classes where classroom interaction is important to the class, particularly small sections or Socratic classes. David Harding Josh '99 Bahnstorm The library (University Archives) always appreciates items, photos, films, and ephemera. I've built up the hockey holdings over the years, with help from folks on this forum, but, probably because of the greater alumni base, the football collections, , have grown the most. Not counting all the other photos and ephemera, we've tracked down over 1000 game films, wby Robb - Hockey
