Re: pre-game Friday - 19 years ago
Sounds great - thanks for taking the initiative, Jeff. My party is leaving the DTW airport around 4:30 pm (EST), so we should make it there in time to join you Friday for at least an appetizer. Definitely up for some hockey gathering time after the game(s), though!by Robb - Hockey
Re: Michigan State games help or hurt Cornell? - 19 years ago
But the modified PWR only counts wins against the top 15 in RPI as quality wins. MSU looks a little iffy for that (keeping in mind that it's the first week in November!). The CCHA conference RPI will not be that great, so they're going to have to have a whale of a run in conference to stay in the top 15. Considering that they've already split with UNO at home and were swept @NMU, I wouldn't coby Robb - Hockey

Dianne 99 Wrote: Is there a way to access the chat via the web? The link I used last year (irc.warped.net) does not work anymore. I don't think I should install an IRC client on my work computer... I just copy and paste "irc://irc.warped.net/lynah" into internet explorer and magic happens... It's working for me. And, BTW, we can all see you typing, Fred.by Robb - Hockey
Re: Penalty for Throwing Fish - 19 years ago
Also, with the stricter obstruction enforcement this year, it's likely that both teams will have many powerplay opportunities, making each one slightly less significant overall. If a fish penalty is the difference between 4 and 5 penalties on Cornell, that's pretty significant, but if it's the difference between 10 and 11, it's not quite so bad. Of course, all that probability mumbo-jumbo goesby Robb - Hockey
Re: i2sports is having problems - 19 years ago
Seriously - even Colgate, who gives away their home webcasts for free, does not webcast away games. Have one less beer and pay for the webcast - unless, of course, beer is more important to you than Cornell/Harvard hockey, in which case, why the heck are you posting here?by Robb - Hockey
Re: Penalty for Throwing Fish - 19 years ago
They're also very cryptic about whether there will be a penalty or not. It does NOT flat-out say that if any objects are thrown on the ice, there will be a penalty. It says there will be a penalty if the game is delayed because of it. So get the fish on the ice quickly so the poor rink-rats can get them cleaned up, and there (theoretically) shouldn't be an issue. I doubt that Nighman has hadby Robb - Hockey
Re: Uncle Ezra on Dryden Road - 19 years ago
There's also a heck of a lot more information readily available than there used to be - why Ask Uncle Ezra when you can Google? Undoubtedly, that must have an impact on the number of questions, so there will be fewer quality qestions to choose from.by Robb - Hockey
Re: Best cheers, best insults - 19 years ago
The theories that I'd heard were that our goalie can see the clock at the end of the game, and that it's easier for the goalie to see the puck with the wall in the background rather than randomly colored fans. Not sure I buy the second one, but I have definitely seen opposition sieves in front of A almost twisting their necks out of joint trying to see the clock during the third period - that caby Robb - Hockey
Re: Whats the deal with I2sports - 19 years ago
Actually, last year (obviously nobody knows ANYTHING about this year yet), anyone could watch the archived games for free after the fact - can't remember how long it took them to post the videos, but it wasn't long. So strike that from your at best partially informed list of gripes.by Robb - Hockey

Re: Commissioners' Cup - 19 years ago
Yeah, well, people on USCHO keep track of the Empire Cup (teams in NY), the non-Ivy cup, and then of course, there's the Cleary Spittoon - all random groupings of regular season games. No big whup.by Robb - Hockey
Re: Games @ Michigan State - 19 years ago
I ordered tickets through MSU, because they went on sale earlier and I wanted to have tickets in hand before shelling out for airfare. I imagine that I'll end up sitting (or actually, standing, I hope!) with whatever looks like the largest group of Cornellians - gotta achieve critical mass to really get the cheers going.by Robb - Hockey
Re: CU Hockey Withdrawl- HELP - 19 years ago
Last year, the webcast of home games only was through i2sports.com, but their page is woefully out of date (it doesn't look like they've broadcast anything yet this fall, and they don't even have schedules for this year's broadcasts posted yet), so I don't know if they're doing it this fall or not. Last year it was $5/game or $60 for the whole season (16 games), and the audio was the offical radby Robb - Hockey

Just in case there's anyone who hasn't seen it: Letter from NCAA on penalties Yes, we've heard this before....sort of. Before, it's always been the leagues who say that they're going to crack down. This time, the coaches, rules committees, NCAA, and leagues have all agreed that this is the right direction to take college hockey. They all really seem to be sticking to their word - for theby Robb - Hockey

I am also definitely going to both games at MSU, and just today ordered tickets for the Notre Dame @ WMU game Saturday night. Re: The Hockey News Rankings - 19 years ago
Hmmm - let's see. INCH knocked us because we're going to miss Vesce's scoring? He had 26 points last year (10 G, 16 A), which was 11% of our offensive production of 230 points. However, 7 of Vesce's points came in that one game against Princeton, which, no offense to the Tigers, weren't exactly cruicial points on the season. Throwing out that game, Vesce had 19 points (7 G, 12 A) out of the rby Robb - Hockey

If I recall correctly, Morin is somehow related (cousin, perhaps?) of JD Forrest of BC. My cousins grew up with them in Auburn, and as JD's career was progressing, they'd always say, "but Chad is supposed to be better..."by Robb - Hockey

Re: Vesce - 19 years ago
Yeah - I just heard half of an interview on the radio a couple days ago with a former Dallas Stars player (didn't catch his name) who really likes the Dallas area, so he's planning to play this season with the Fort Worth Brahmas, who are one of the worst teams in the Central Hockey League. Re: Lynah East 2005 - Single Tickets on Sale 9/20 - 19 years ago
At 2:33 EDT, they only had blocks of 6 left in secs 2 & 3 (harvard side near the main entrance), so I got one of those (blocks). They had 2 or more together in section 20 (opposite from 2&3), and beyond that, only singles.by Robb - Hockey
Re: Lynah East 2005 - Single Tickets on Sale 9/20 - 19 years ago
Hmmm - I count 12 Big Game wins for Cornell (10 ECAC and 2 NCAA championships, including a 3-1 record vs. Harvard in ECAC championship games) and only 8 Big Game wins for Harvard. Cornell's record in championship games is 12-8 (.600), while Harvard's is 8-9 (.471). Guess your degree with honors must be in English, not math? Then again, maybe 12>8 is beyond the level of Harvard honors matby Robb - Hockey
