Re: General Women's Thread - 11 years ago
Loss drops us back to 4th in PWR. Sucks plays back-to-back-to-back from Sunday through Tuesday against Yale, @Dartmouth, and then against BU. Their game against Brown will be a week from next Tuesday. Hopefully their busy schedule will result in dropped points.by Ben - Hockey

Trotsky SwampyTo make things even worse, other than the penalties, there's no obvious reason for how bad the team's been, and there's no clear-cut help in sight! The lack of discipline is a serious problem and can ruin any season (1987 comes to mind). It's also one of those rare things that is entirely within the control of the team. Sucks falls to BC, 2-1, but Northeastern beats BU, 3-0. Not all bad for us.by Ben - Hockey
Re: Cornell @ Clark - 11 years ago
css228I hope most people aren't contesting that Iles hasn't been playing up to par, that is certainly true during this stretch. However, I am hesitant to lay the majority of the blame at his feet because I don't have the data to prove whether or not the play is purely his fault. I suspect that his 5 v 4 save percentage is lower than average, but that his ES save percentage is at the league averagby Ben - Hockey
Re: Cornell @ Clark - 11 years ago
ScrewBU LJAbe Iles is not among the top 50 goaltenders in the NCAA. He is 12th in the ECAC with a 2.62 GAA. Contrast that with Leneveu, McKee, Scrivens who were 1.0-1.5 and we have a problem. Shafe had Marozzi as a back up last year and he never played one minute. He left before this season and we don't have a qualified backup. Re: General Women's Thread - 11 years ago
dag14 Women beat a pesky RPI team 3-1. 2-0 after the first, an ugly second period where we survived only because RPI is chippy but otherwise inept. Stronger play in the third but all in all, not the best effort from our team. The RPI fans might argue about the officiating but my sense was that it was pretty bad both ways meaning inconsistent calls. Our win, combined with St. Lawrence's come-fby Ben - Hockey

We should also note that Sucks tied 2-2 with Dartmouth, Clarkson beat SLU, and Jenner notched her third hat-trick of the season tonight.by Ben - Hockey
Re: 2012-13 Polls Men & Women - 11 years ago
MattSThe people near me in section M at Lynah are starting to make noises that a new coach should be brought in. I don't really have a strong feeling either way, but my question to them when considering a coaching change is: "Who can Cornell get that would do a better job?" Seriously, who can CU lure in that would deal with the restrictions mentioned, accept the pay that would be offby Ben - Hockey

Chris '03 css228 Robb RichHI bet if you watched the '05 and '06 OTs, you would see a handful of times it could have gone the other way.Indeed. And if that had been the case, but Cornell went on to lose the national semifinals in both of those years, then merely making the Frozen Four would be the "new normal" and people would be beeatching that Schafer couldn't break THAT ceiling to wiby Ben - Hockey

4-0 win over Mercyhurst after a great first period and some good penalty killing in the third. Union & RPI next.by Ben - Hockey

Weder Ben Weder The bench has been getting shorter the past several games. From what I've seen, a couple of injured players could be out for some time, but has anyone heard anything about players returning this week? It's the same three players who have been out since the winter break: Brown, Zorn, and Murray. Pittens wasn't listed in the box scores for the Brown and Yale games, and I wasn't paby Ben - Hockey

Re: Big Line-up Changes for Brown Game - 11 years ago
BMac(I love the Cornell flag visible after Esposito's goal. Looks like a great new tradition to me. Has this been happening for a while?) This was the second weekend I've brought the flag to hockey -- I brought it to WICE last weekend too. No one's told me to put it down yet, so I'll keep bringing it. margolism BTW, when was the last time Cornell was shut out, at home, for a loss. (There wasby Ben - Hockey

Women win 4-2 over Brown, Jenner gets a goal and three assists. Clarkson and Sucks (in overtime) both win as well.by Ben - Hockey

scoop85 Brandon Thomas just tweeted that Miller, Lowry and Mowrey are sitting tonight. Hilbrich, Stoick and Kevin Cole in the lineup. No injurie involved, just a shakeup. Miller has been our best player this season. The others I can understand.by Ben - Hockey
Re: CU vs Yale - 11 years ago
scoop85 While we're surely not at the level of the early-to-mid 2000's teams, my feeling watching this year is not so much that we're in any particular state of decline, but that the rest of the ECAC has gotten so much better. That is decline, decline relative to the rest of the conference. The consensus among my friends is in line with what BearLover said: this season has sucked. And I see no evby Ben - Hockey

dag14 Women beat Clarkson 3-1. Overall a good effort against an excellent team, although there were some periods of sloppy passing and poor judgment calls on the clear, etc. And we were lucky. Clarkson had a 3 on 0 and didn't score....I guess they don't practice that play. I thought we were excellent and fully deserved the win. Jenner should have scored on that ridiculous set of moves lateby Ben - Hockey

Re: General Women's Thread - 11 years ago
dag14 The women get off to a slow start but beat St. Lawrence 6-0. Bizarre scoring situation in that game. The first goal, midway through the 2nd (which I couldn't see from Section B), was reviewed and called off, but still counted on the scoreboard, box score, and in the goal announcements. Whether she had two goals or one, it was another great game from Jenner. Campbell also looks more incisivby Ben - Hockey
Re: CU at Union - 11 years ago
Jim HylaMore seriously, from the Ithaca Journal article on this weekend: including a disqualification on Big Red sophomore forward John McCarron for “obscene language,” an infraction that all associated with Cornell, including Schafer, insist did not happen. The sequence in question, which occurred after the final horn of the second game, a 2-1 Denver win, is under review by commissionersby Ben - Hockey
Re: General Women's Thread - 11 years ago
WICE got back to winning ways with an 8-1 drubbing of Syracuse. Jenner scored her second hat-trick of the season, an she's on pace to be the first Cornell player to 200 points since Digit Degidio/Murphy (136 points after tonight). The North Country teams come to visit Lynah this weekend.by Ben - Hockey
Re: General Women's Thread - 11 years ago
ithacat mattj711 Weder So the recruiting thread on USCHO lists four forwards and a goalie as committed for next season. I assume that there will be at least two defensemen coming in as well. So that seems like a large class given there are three seniors on this season's roster. Can I assume that the expectation is that Jenner and possibly others will be out for the Olympics? jtn27 Robb Well, it turns out that they did (Gotovets's #24), but my wife didn't tell me that part so she could surprise me with THAT one. Good wife! The big surprise, though, was that #17 turned up at my billing address. So apparently they were competent enough to do the right thing - they just weren't competent enough to know that they were that competent! (and yes, we will be paying foby Ben - Hockey
Re: Clarkson at Cornell: Just Win, Baby - 11 years ago
flyersgolf 2nd Period was quite a period for the refs. Cornell played a man down for almost a minute before Schafer points out during a stoppage in play they should be playing 5 on 5. Refs correct mistake. Would have really been something if Clarkson scored. To make it even better, Ryan, whose number was up on the scoreboard, was out on the ice during that Clarkson PP. Re: Cornell women 5, BU 2 - 11 years ago
Weder Or could it just have been that one of the backup goalies was going to start against Colgate regardless? Possible, but I doubt it. I don't recall Derraugh ever doing that before.by Ben - Hockey
Re: Cornell women 5, BU 2 - 11 years ago
Very good display against a terrible Colgate team. Jenner was fantastic on her return, Woods was a bright spark, particularly in the 3rd, and Pippy looked good on the few occasions she was was called to make stops. Interestingly, Pippy started and Slebodnick was on the bench -- Slebodnick must still be a bit sore from the injury she suffered against Princeton.by Ben - Hockey

dbilmes Unfortunately, not only was there no Cornell pep band present, but there was no cowbell either. All in all, a miserable night for the Lynah Faithful. Over to you, Chris.by Ben - Hockey
