dag14 Women beat Union 4-0. Clarkson beats Harvard 3-1. Put another way: four straight RS titles. Yale beat Princeton and Colgate won, so we will face Colgate at Lynah next weekend.by Ben - Hockey
Re: General Women's Thread - 11 years ago
I worked this all out, so I may as well share. These are the possible RS results and playoff seedings... Current Table Schools ------- Pts Conf All Cornell -------- 35 17-3-1 22-5-1 Harvard ------- 34 16-2-2 20-4-3 Clarkson ------ 34 17-4 25-8 St. Lawrence - 28 12-5-4 17-11-5 Quinnipiac ----- 27 12-6-3 18-10-4 Dartmouth ----- 24 10-7-4 15-8-5 Rensselaer ----- 18 8-11-2by Ben - Hockey
Re: RIP @ Cornell - 11 years ago
MattSMy only complaint was how uninspired the students were. The boys played well and with Burgdoefer being an easy target I would have thought they could have been a bit more original. But unfortunately they stuck with the same tired routine except a few times booing Burgie when he had the puck. The last win we saw was December 1st. Re: RIP @ Cornell - 11 years ago
Trotsky flyersgolfI hope our gritty big boys can contain themselves until the game is in hand, before they discuss with Greg Burgdoerfer the hit he put on Cole Bardreau. Don't even suggest it, we still need everybody for the next game. Granting that somebody should lay a hit on that guy that's so hard his goonier brother feels it, I hope it's not us. This is when Bob Gaudet would be useful.by Ben - Hockey
Re: Alumni in the Pros:February - 11 years ago
Trotsky Current tally (AFAIK) for alumni on an NHL roster this year is 7: Murray, SJ Moulson, NYI O'Byrne, Col Greening, Ott Scrivens, Tor R. Nash, Car Collins, Cmb Any others? What happened to Byron Bitz? I can't find any information on him.by Ben - Hockey
Re: Alumni in the Pros:February - 11 years ago
Scrivens made 32 saves in a 3-1 win over Buffalo. 5-4-0, .931, 2.10 on the season...not too bad. Also, Collins was a healthy scratch tonight.by Ben - Hockey
Re: HARVARD SUCKS - 11 years ago
Chris '03If regular season finish equals champion then the Presidents' Trophy should be more valuable than the Stanley Cup. We've been socialized to think the reverse, but a larger sample size (particularly with a balanced schedule) is more likely to leave the best team at the top of the table. Playoffs may be more exciting, but they increase the importance of random variations -- bounces of theby Ben - Hockey
Re: HARVARD SUCKS - 11 years ago
andyw2100 I'm a little embarrassed to admit that after over 30 years of attending Cornell vs. Harvard hockey games, this past Saturday was the first time I attended one at Harvard. But being my first time at Bright Lynah East, I couldn't help but notice and immediately be pissed off by their banner titled "ECAC Championships" (or perhaps it reads "ECAC Champions" ) which incluby Ben - Hockey
Re: ECAC Playoff Possibilities and Race in a Nutshell Thread - 11 years ago
CowbellGuy jtn27 Chris 02 Is the 2013 version available? Let me make it simple for you: in a nutshell, we do not have a shot at the ECAC title this year. Your nut's shell has a large hole in it. If we win (which we will not), I will do something outrageous. Suggestions welcome.by Ben - Hockey
Re: Something New - 11 years ago
billhoward You see the RPI replay of the crossing pass and the shot into the middle of the 6x4 plane behind the goaltender and conclude that this is a goal that deserved to counted. That was my thinking as well. It feels like it should be a goal.by Ben - Hockey

Re: General Women's Thread - 11 years ago
dag14 Official attendance was 2182. More importantly, there were a lot of raucous students in the crowd, as well as the band. At the end of the game, several players took a run and jumped against the glass at Section D where the wrestling team and friends had been leading the cheers throughout the game. They came over to where we were causing trouble in B as well. We had a lot of pike, walleye,by Ben - Hockey
Re: General Women's Thread - 11 years ago
dag14 The Harvard goalie has a GAA of 1.24 so scoring 3 goals is actually quite good....She made some phenomenal saves tonight. Laura Bellamy, Harvard's senior goaltender, leads the nation in saves percentage [.958] and GAA [.078]. Does anyone know why she did not play tonight? They've been platooning all season. Don't mess with the rotation?by Ben - Hockey

WICE has performed better in a smaller pool of teams. I don't see a logical argument for MICE instead.by Ben - Hockey
Re: General Women's Thread - 11 years ago
Swampy Women's victory tonight moves them into 1st place in the ECAC, with Clarkson losing to Princeton. Cornell is now 16-3 in conference, Harvard is 14-2-1, and Clarkson is 15-4. We've gotta win out and hope that Clarkson beats Harvard in Cambridge on the 23rd. Great effort tonight, could definitely have scored more. The second line looked more dangerous, and Campbell seemed to have a bit of thby Ben - Hockey

I was very tempted to vote 12th, but because I'm pretty sure my optimism bucket will be full to the brim by next October, I went with 4th.by Ben - Hockey
Re: General Women's Thread CU 4 Princeton 1 - 11 years ago
Jim HylaI agree, I was impressed with how well attended the games were and that the students did cheer. Do they get there on time, NO, but that has been for >15 years. Remember why coach changed the senior presentation to after, rather than before, the game. They come late, but do come. I don't know where the prior comment that whole student sections are absent comes from. I've not seen that.by Ben - Hockey

nyc94 Ben nyc94Mixed Biathlon Relay? Why are you picking on one of the best advances for gender equality in the Olympics, in an extremely physically and mentally taxing sport? Not sure if serious. If not, I believe women already compete in the biathlon. Not sure what putting men and women on the same team accomplishes. The IBU has had a Women's World Cup since the early 1980s, and the Mixed Rby Ben - Other Sports

jtn27 and I have been keeping track of the people around us in B -- in front and to our left (towards A) are mostly facetimers, and the people directly in front of us haven't showed up before 7:25 for any 7 PM starts this season. The best way to fill up the student sections earlier is to base the quality of the viewing experience on punctuality -- make them general admission. In other WICE newby Ben - Hockey

imafrshmn Huge game coming up for the Red against Harvard on Friday... It's being promoted pretty heavily, they're giving away rally towels, and it's the only game in town. Cornell vs. Harvard has become a pretty fierce rivalry on the women's side in the past couple years. Some talk in the air about letting the fish fly for the first time at a women's game. Re: PU @ CU - 11 years ago
I see no reason to expect that this team will put together anything resembling a consistent run for the rest of the season. Even if you assume that last night's effort was sufficient to accumulate the 8-10 points* needed to secure home ice in the first round, this team has been anything but consistent. The most consistent run of the season so far was between Dartmouth and SLU at home, but three oby Ben - Hockey

Scersk '97 css228 Given that every shot was straight to Condon's chest protector, its not schoking we couldn't score. However much I appreciate your creative portmanteau (I can only assume) of "shocking" and "choking," I can't agree. Take off your jaundiced glasses and watch the game. Great game; poor result. They're just trying to keep us entertained by finding many difby Ben - Hockey

flyersgolf I really enjoy the the sarcasm and satirical comments made. 25 years out of Cornell, I can tell you we have the best sense of humor of all the ivies. Come to rows 4 & 5 of B tonight near the aisle with C and you'll hear a lot more.by Ben - Hockey
Re: General Women's Thread - 11 years ago
dag14 4-1 over Princeton this afternoon. Nearly got a good break in the Clarkson-Union game. Union led twice, but Clarkson came back to win. We're joint top with Clarkson on 30 points, Sucks is third with 29 and two games in hand.by Ben - Hockey
Re: PU @ CU - 11 years ago
Princeton's PP is fifth in the country and their PK is ninth. We need to keep this 5x5, but knowing this team, we won't.by Ben - Hockey
Re: Q @ CU - 11 years ago
Thomas Larson Is it just me, or is Cornell playing the best hockey of any team in the league right now? I'm pretty sure it's neither, it's whatever hallucinogens you've been taking. Unless you mean right at this very moment in history, in which case we may be the only team on ice, so you could be correct. But I doubt that.by Ben - Hockey
Re: General Women's Thread - 11 years ago
Ben Loss drops us back to 4th in PWR. Sucks plays back-to-back-to-back from Sunday through Tuesday against Yale, @Dartmouth, and then against BU. Their game against Brown will be a week from next Tuesday. Hopefully their busy schedule will result in dropped points. ...or not. Yale @ Sucks postponed, no new date set.by Ben - Hockey
Re: Q @ CU - 11 years ago
css228 redice Ben We have three senior captains, who should be wearing Cs because of their leadership ability. It's time for them to lead. We watched one of those captains cough up the puck in front of his empty net Friday evening. Unthinkable!!! D'Agostino had a bad turnover?!?!?!?! No way... We definitely haven't seen that before. carpy85 nyc94 It would appear people are moving further along in the Five Stages of Grief. Some have already reached Acceptance. Accepting that this year is over sounds the most logic at this point.
