Re: All around excellence - 14 years ago
This is more a task for someone in the Cornell athletics/admissions department, but shouldn't someone make a video to celebrate this weekend? No one has come up with any other recent stretches of athletic domination. Start with clips from the men's basketball clinching the Ivy League title at Brown, m/w hockey beating Harvard and continue with all the success last weekend? They could play Davey,by tretiak - Other Sports
Re: 2010 NCAA hockey regional ticket situation - 14 years ago
I just got off the phone with an agent from tickets.com and he said there are seats in 119, but that he could only sell me all-pass seats in section 215. Anyone got any idea why that's going on?by tretiak - Hockey
Ashley Judd taunts - 14 years ago
Seeing as we'll be seeing too much of her in Syracuse, anyone got any good taunts against Ashley Judd? All I can think of is (Mary had a little lamb tune) Ash-ley is the ug-ly Judd ug-ly Judd ug-ly Judd... or Ash-ley is a bad act-ress bad act-ress bad act-ress... Feel free to finish them off or make up better onesby tretiak - Other Sports

Re: Cornell NCAA Basketball - 14 years ago
I'm a New York fan. Like Chicago fans, we're self loathing and negative all the time, even when our teams are doing well. Whoa whoa whoa. I think you meant Boston, not NY (unless of course you're a Mets fan). NYY fans are not self-loathing/negative despite what Francesa says or does.by tretiak - Other Sports

Re: You Are the Committee - 14 years ago
Hits to the head need to be eliminated from the game of Hockey. No one deserves to be permanently harmed from playing hockey, and head injuries are a heartless bitch. No one here has tried to refute the fact that contact to the head is illegal. I'm not arguing that the hit wasn't dirty. It was both a hit to the head and a charge because Frettin took multiple strides before delivering a hit. Jby tretiak - Hockey
Re: You Are the Committee - 14 years ago
Come on, those stills are terrible. The skates are blurred and the picture is from a top angle. From that angle you can't tell if his skates are touching the ice. View the video, he certainly had a jumping motion, off the ice and back down. Stop the video at 11 seconds and look. I've paused it at several spots on the attached video. Pre-contact, Frettin's feet are still on the ice. Then thereby tretiak - Hockey
Re: You Are the Committee - 14 years ago
As you can see from the stills, Frattin didn't leave his feet to make the hit. It was still definitely a charging/contact to the head penalty.by tretiak - Hockey
Re: Rebecca Johnston - Cornell Hero - 14 years ago
By bringing up the Nagano incident, you are comparing them. Additionally, I don't think you remember the Nagano incident correctly. The American hockey players were celebrating getting eliminated and not medaling? They got drunk and trashed a room because they were pissed. Alcohol doesn't make something a celebration. Then, you have the Canadian women celebrating a gold medal by dby tretiak - Other Sports
Re: Rebecca Johnston - Cornell Hero - 14 years ago
While this was not as bad, we do remember the Olympic Hotel trashing, don't we? The Olympics, like it or not, are considered different than other pro sports. Wow, even Roy Williams (the UNC coach) thinks this is an over-exaggeration. You're seriously trying to compare the US men's hockey team trashing a hotel room because they were sore losers to a couple of girls celebrating a gold medal? Thby tretiak - Other Sports

One of the greatest celebrations I've ever heard. I take back every negative thing I've ever said about women's hockey. And fuck the IOC for giving the women grief over this.by tretiak - Other Sports

Re: Princeton Post-game - 14 years ago
Scrivens did impress me with his demeanor, after getting pulled Garman made a fantastic glove save right off the bat and Scrivens pounded the side glass enthusiastically. Despite getting pulled he was cheering for his teammates immediately. How dare you compliment Scrivens! Don't you know he is teh sux0r and his gigantic ego is single-handedly holding us back from national title contention?!by tretiak - Hockey
Re: Cornell 2 Quinnipiac 0, post game - 14 years ago
I'm sure you're correct. It was funny to watch the camera follow D'Agostino skate all the way to the bench and then talk to the coaches. At first the cameraman obviously thought he was guilty. But he was behind the player and it was Scrivens stick that tripped the Q. All the boxscores that I've seen list Moulson??? I'm sure they did it because Moulson served the penalty, but that was definiteby tretiak - Hockey
Santa Barbara Viewing Location - 14 years ago
For those in and around Santa Barbara, I just called Madison's Bar and Grill on State St and they have CSTV. I'll get over there around 4 to watch Kovalchuk's debut. If there are any Cornell fans out there, feel free to join me.by tretiak - Hockey

Re: NHL Central Scouting Mid-Season Rankings - 14 years ago
Seven NCAA-bound goalies in the top 25, but not Andy Iles. I think the expectation level here at elynah has been higher than that. Iles is 5'8. If he's drafted at all, it won't be until the late rounds. Goalies under 6' are rare in the NHL, just look at Jeff Lerg. He was one of the best goalies in college hockey and an unheralded, undrafted free agent. If you're looking at the better NHL careby tretiak - Hockey
Re: Postgame - 14 years ago
How many times this season have we let an opponent score within a minute of our taking the lead? Maybe the team just loses focus or something, but thankfully that quick goal to make it 1-1 didn't matter in the end. that's a problem for all teams, unless the goal is a back-breaker. remember the bu game when cornell answered the first bu goal about a minute after? the team that is scored on tenby tretiak - Hockey

What is the significance (if any) of the orange jersey in picture 11? Coach? Injured player? Injured player. Orange means don't check and avoid all physical contact if possible.by tretiak - Hockey
Re: New Recruit for 2011 - Stevie Miller - 14 years ago
just wondering since I probably missed the discussion before. why do so many hockey kids commit so far in advance? two years out just seems like a long time to commit ahead of actually getting there. Because if someone offers you a sure deal, you take it. If he pans out and is a great talent, he can make the jump to the NHL from Cornell. Going to Cornell won't affect his draft position or theby tretiak - Hockey
Re: Sleeping Bear? - 14 years ago
They were inappropriate for the venue: too syrupy. It's a hockey game, which means more ass-kicking and less glee club. Amen. I can understand mixing in other parts of Cornell with hockey clips, but did they not try to find hockey clips? Off the top of my head I can think of several clips of the last few years that should've been shown - Sam Paolini's OT goal to win the 2003 ECAC, McRae's 2OTby tretiak - Hockey
Re: Cornell-BU @ MSG postgame - 14 years ago
I'm not a fan of replacing arenas at 25 the way the Devils did The Devils replaced Continental Airlines Arena because it was the center of North Jersey gridlock. It wasn't worth driving to games to sit in traffic for an hour within viewing distance of the arena, so the Prudential Center was built a block away from the Newark train station. I agree though - MSG needs some renovation to make itby tretiak - Hockey

Re: Mason's game winner - 14 years ago
Did it go off Krueger's stick? It looks like it came up at a sharper angle, I hear a second sound than just the shot, and Krueger stood looking at Scrivens after the goal. I heard the same thing. That would make sense as any deflection will make an easy shot difficult to stop.by tretiak - Hockey
