Re: Cornell going west - 15 years ago
There is one chance to play in the BU bracket: we win, NoDak wins and DU wins. Inthat case even though we finish 7th the committee may flip us to the BU bracket in 8th to avoid a first round (8 v 9) matchup between Vermont and Northeastern. I know they seed in bands, but they tend to respect traditional seedings (e.g., 1-8-9-16) if there's no reason not to.by Ken70 - Hockey
Cornell going west - 15 years ago
Cornell is 12th if Yale and Princeton win, UML upsets BU, WI beats NoDak, MNDuluth beats DU and Mercyhurst wins. But it's meaningless in any case. Cornell is in no matter what and there are no scenarios I've found for Cornell to logically stay east. From the standpoint of NCAAs tonight's game is meaningless unless you're fretting about being in the Notre Dame or Denver bracket.by Ken70 - Hockey
Re: Cornell-Yale Postgame - 15 years ago
I had the same thought during one of our PPs: no one is creating any space. We pass the puck around but there is rarely anyone in a dangerous (to Yale) position. Maybe Mike should have the guys watch a few EPL games. First goal was huge mistake by Scrivens. First there was no good reason to come out, and second when you're trying to clear don't do it straight into an attacking player.by Ken70 - Hockey
Re: TUCs - 15 years ago
How is a conference winner, AF in this case, handled as to TUC at season end. Even if their 30th in the RPI are they treated as one of the 25 TUCs because they're going to the dance?by Ken70 - Hockey
Re: TUCs - 15 years ago
I think you're being a bit optimistic. St Cloud isn't playing well and has a tough remaining schedule. Quinnipiac is only .01 RPI points ahead of MN State. This is now conference time, with few NC games for any team. As the marginal TUC teams in the ECAC play each other over the next 7 weeks, and given the RPI emphasis on OO records, all the ECAC teams including Cornell will gradually sinby Ken70 - Hockey

Blast from past... - 16 years ago
Weird combination of stimuli caused me to think of this guy for first time in many, many years. A) Name the song (duh) and the artist 2) When was the last time anybody heard him perform in Ithaca bar or at a Cornell party (or anywhere for that matter)?by Ken70 - John Spencer Is Dead
Re: Is it October yet? - 16 years ago
Doug '08 3 Things not to worry about: 1) Goaltending. We all love to talk about goaltending because it is the most individual position on such a team sport. I think we can expect solid but unspectacular goaltending from Davenport this year, which will be more than enough. All you can ever expect from a goaltender is to put you in position to win the game. Regardless, I don’t think the indiviby Ken70 - Hockey

Hillel Hoffmann Edit: Same for Duke, should they advance along with Navy. Now that would be a nightmare: advancing to play Navy in the quarterfinals at Navy-Marine Corps Stadium. And should Duke survive that they have a likely semi-final date with the Coaches/Sports Writers undefeated and unanimous #1 who beat them at their home field in March. Of course, anyone you meet in a national semi-finby Ken70 - Other Sports
Study shows bias of authors, not refs - 17 years ago
P. 29: "Table 3 is instructive, showing that the rate at which fouls are earned by black players is largely invariant to the racial composition of the refereeing crew." P. 4: "Moreover,in light of the mismatch between the composition of the players (around four-fifths of whom are black) and their evaluators (around two-thirds of referees are white in our sample), an own-race prby Ken70 - Other Sports

Re: food in Durham - 17 years ago
Try Foster's Market for good casual food in a comfortable atmosphere. Brunch is popular there. Brightleaf Square has a number of interesting restaurants and is near campus (East Campus). Within short walking distance of the lacrosse field is the Washington Duke hotel, good food in an nice hotel restaurant. Avoid the much hyped Magnolia Grill - very expensive, noisy and wait staff can haby Ken70 - Other Sports
Re: PWR Question - 17 years ago
Cornell can get one foot in the door on Friday simply by beating Dartmouth. That will flip the VT comp. and give Cornell 9 comparisons and alone in 15th place (assume .003 bonus). If Co. College does anything but win on Friday (while Cornell beats Dartmouth) that may very well flip that comp., putting Cornell in 14th ahead of CC based on the RPI tie-breaker. Sure - lots of games left after Fby Ken70 - Hockey
