Re: State of eLynah Address - 9 years ago
And I haven't been here in like a decade, and logged in solely to find Rich's email address for an unrelated issue, and lo and behold I see the same old names... so yeah.by jeh25 - Hockey

I'm really really gonna try to go but my offspring has a birthday party 10-12 and ballet class 1-2. So I'll probably be late. jhby jeh25 - Other Sports
Re: Bob Petrillose - 15 years ago
In memory of Bob, here is the 2004 article from Gourmet on the Hot Truck. As further evidence of his legacy, in the last 2 days, I have discussed Hot Truck with Cornellians from the classes of '72, '75, '82, and '93, and grad '06 (including several full profs and a dean). Unsurprisingly, all these people have fond memories of Bob and the truck. I was particularly amused to learn that a WGCby jeh25 - John Spencer Is Dead

WillCMJrTradition And it irritates me that a bunch of kids who can't even bother to be in their seats by the start of the game are f***ing with it. And I assume you also have a lawn they should be getting off of... maybe 100mg of thorazine would help.by jeh25 - Hockey

krosejeh25Yeah, the large chasm between groupie and MILF is hard to take, eh? Ouch. I felt that from here. To be clear, what I meant of course was: "Last call for Puckbunny. Next station stop is MILFitude."by jeh25 - Hockey
Re: How far Cornell hasn't fallen this year - 16 years ago
KrisI do not know why a team with such inspired fanbases cannot impose its will upon the University and Red Recruiting to build a team capable of national glory Because such a naked effort to put winning above all would require such a betrayal of the principles of Ivy League athletics that the resultant championship would be hollow and meaningless? Put another way, was President Day wrongby jeh25 - Hockey

Re: Recruiting and Financial Aid - 16 years ago
Josh '99metaezraJosh '99Sounds like an open admission of the already-existing unspoken reality. Has there ever been anything documenting the sort of practices you allude to? I find it hard to believe that the word wouldn't get out if there was some sort of gross evasion of policies going on. There's an excellent discussion of the various ramifications of these policy changes taking place herby jeh25 - Hockey
Re: Recruiting and Financial Aid - 16 years ago
Josh '99Al DeFloriojeh25Right. I was going to make the same point. Ever look at an *international* ranking of elite colleges? Cornell frequently blows other Ivies out of the water. And at least some of that prestige comes from the Ag school and Vet school and the role they played in the green revolution. Excellent point, John. I can't recall if it was a full-blown presentation or just a onby jeh25 - Hockey
Re: Brown Rookie of the Week charged in child porn case - 16 years ago
JerseygirlOh ew. Ick ick ick. Even if she's not a "child" but merely "underage," I hope this teaches him and his buddies a hard lesson about not being a total sleazeball. What a d.b. Yeah, the hidden taping / youtube aspect takes this to a whole new level, even assuming she's "only underage" and not actually a child.by jeh25 - Hockey
Re: Recruiting and Financial Aid - 16 years ago
metaezraAs for the apples and flowers comment, need I remind you that agricultural research is an explicit part of Cornell's educational mission as the land grant institution for the State of New York? Anybody familiar with Cornell's role in the green revolution in India can tell you that the apples and flowers are worth it -- maybe not for Cornell, per se, but for the human condition. Right.by jeh25 - Hockey

Re: Recruiting and Financial Aid - 16 years ago
Beeeej Okay, you're switching premises, but let's go with this one as long as we're at it. Do you understand how endowments work? I'll take nursing scholarships that Cornell can't touch for $100, Alex. EDIT: oops. now I see that you already raised the nursing school issue in a later post. Nevermind.by jeh25 - Hockey
Re: O'Byrne Arrested - 16 years ago
KeithKIt is very much funny when a professional athlete making hundreds of thousands of dollars gets caught committing petty theft. It's probably not going to ruin his life and it most certainly won't ruin the victim's life. So why not laugh at the absurdity of it? Boys will be boys, Keith? C'mon. You can do better.by jeh25 - Hockey

Re: Helmet Poll Images - 16 years ago
Josh '99KeithKDpperk29Ben's mask is pretty cool, but as far as tributes to fans go, I am partial to Clarkson's Tim Potters Helmet (http://www.bonesaw.org/features.php?mode=view&id=11). Maybe it is just because I am on it... oh well. But it's such a hideous mix of green and yellow! This seems to be as good a time as any to point out that Subway owns Clarkson. WIN.by jeh25 - Hockey

Re: Cornell 4 at Brown 1 (postgame) - 16 years ago
Jim Hyla I thought the crowd at Brown was more into it than at Yale. Maybe practice helps us as well. Providence is only 50 minutes from Boston, and it was the Saturday game. I suspect that while the roadtrip fans were consistent across the two games, the "local" alums may have made the difference. Besides, the Hayeseses and the DeFlorios were at Brown but not Yale....by jeh25 - Hockey

Re: NCAA Lacrosse Bradley-Terry - 16 years ago
sorry. wasn't clear - yes i agree that a name branding effect is to be avoided. but if you'd gonna throw rational criteria out the window and go with gut feeling, as they did in the bad old days, and only use an ephemeral "quality program" standard, not inviting the defending champion is a crock. But in anyway, you can ignore my post because 12-9 was the margin of victory, not navy'sby jeh25 - Other Sports
Re: NCAA Lacrosse Bradley-Terry - 16 years ago
Ok, so Navy had SOS and H2H (and a southern bias?) while Cornell had WinPct, meaning it isn't quite as egregious as I had remembered. But still to take a .5714 team over the .7692 team when the later is the defending champ seems a little shady. I mean, 9 loses isn't anything to write home about, "quality teams" or not. Also, I've always thought most fans and many coaches are too quicby jeh25 - Other Sports
Re: NCAA Lacrosse Bradley-Terry - 16 years ago
Swampy Yeah, but look at where the selection committee went to school. They'd never understand this! Hell. 5 Years ago, I demonstrated (in detail) on laxpower how the committee didn't even follow their own published selection criteria. As memory serves, the committee took Hofstra over Yale despite Yale clearly coming out ahead. Alas, the laxpower archives don't go back that far anymore.by jeh25 - Other Sports

To misquote Monty Python: 'Then, shalt thou count to four. No more. No less. Four shalt be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be four. Re: How Does Yale Spell "Relief"? - 18 years ago
RichHTrotskyRichHTaylor was the ECAC's less successful version of Jack Parker. That's putting it mildly. He coached 18 losing teams. That's Connie Mack territory. Someone up at Yale has a tail! Or at least a vision that hockey could be high-profile enough in New Haven to bring in some $ with some actual success. I think this is a good thing for the league.
