Al is on to something. It should definitely be in Washington, DC.by Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: Cornell-Ferris State In Progress - 12 years ago
I can't agree with the statement that we were as good as (or better than) Union this year. While our head-to-head record is good, their GF-GA (both in conference and out of conference) blows ours out of the water. I saw both Union games in person this year, and I think they just oozed talent. Fast, agile skaters, good defense - they deserve their success. Sure, I would've happily taken a matcby Lowell '99 - Hockey

For what it's worth, cynical bear is still an official university logo (and is super awesome), but huggy bear is owned by athletics.by Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: Grady Whittenburg - 13 years ago
And of course, he was immortalized on the original Live at Lynah CD (recorded in 1997) with his call(s) during "The Comeback." "Auger wins the draw... Dailey down the slot... shoot HE SCORES!!!", followed by his, um, critique of our, well, holding. My favorite moments were actually "The net to our empty is left" and his complete shock at the go-ahead goal.by Lowell '99 - Hockey

Re: Cornell Women's Hockey - 14 years ago
All in all, still the greatest weekend in Cornell sports in a long time. Congrats to the women's team on an amazing run.by Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: Cornell vs. Union - 14 years ago
And as I always say when this game comes up, it was really the Mark McRae end-to-end, weaving-through-the-entire-Harvard-team goal near the end of regulation that was actually more impressive. Of course, I say this with no disrespect to Sam "Harvard Killer" Paolini.by Lowell '99 - Hockey

Re: Incoming class - 14 years ago
cbuckser On a totally different and random note, will the pep band play "Axel F" for Erik Axell? Perhaps, if anybody currently in the pep band knows what the heck it is, as none of them were born when "Beverly Hills Cop" came out (and it's not even close!). Then again, pep bands across the land would be hamstrung if they had to play only music from the last 20 years or so..by Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: 2009 CU Hall of Fame class includes two hockey players - 14 years ago
In a fanboy kind of way, I'd vote for Elliott based almost entirely on his ripping off his helmet in disgust during the ECAC finals against Clarkson in 1997 in Lake Placid and berating the refs for the noncalls on him getting hammered by players in the crease. At that moment, it was clear to me that a goalie could be the true leader of a team.by Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: Frozen Four TV Bingo? - 15 years ago
The title of this thread gave me another idea: Lynah Faithful TV bingo! Check a box for each time you see RichH, jtw, judy, Jim Hyla, mha, etc. on TV. I want Rich H as my center square. Rich, the camera loves you! Yes, I know I just mixed bingo with Hollywood Squares.by Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: Cornell-Bemidji NCAA regionals postgame - 15 years ago
Lowell, you missed the boat- that was Tims point. <snip> He and I are both saying you can't live with no offense. I'm saying two things: 1) You win by outscoring your opponent. Of course you can't live with zero offense, but you can live without leading the country in scoring (or even being top 10). Like the adage that pitching and defense win in baseball, it's idiotic. Bemidji wasn't just a 4 seed; they were clearly the last team in the tournament. Re: Cornell-Bemidji NCAA regionals postgame - 15 years ago
Huh??? What did you agree with? Can we live with zero offense or not? I agree with not hating on Schafer's system when we've had lots of success, and also with the idea that a purely defensive game is a part of that system. The offense is more control-oriented than breakout-oriented (or "skilled", but it is not always absent. Furthermore, you can't ignore the role of scholarshipby Lowell '99 - Hockey

Re: Cornell-Bemidji NCAA regionals postgame - 15 years ago
BeeeejCUontheslopesI disagree with all the Schafer-defensive style haters out there who say we need to play more skilled offense. WE just need to execute better on the Schafer system. The better teams from prior years (thinking 03 and 05) forced the other teams to play our game. We were bigger, stronger and just beat the everloving crap out of our opponents. The last few years we haven't played nby Lowell '99 - Hockey

Completely agree with Kyle. The Duke administration clearly and obviously blew it, and that was true even before the case ended.by Lowell '99 - Other Sports
Re: B2 - 15 years ago
The pep band is self-supported (read: alumni and friends of the band). There is no financial support from Athletics for the trips. Interestingly, there is no cost to the band for the basketball tournament - the NCAA covers the expenses. Not true for hockey or lacrosse, unfortunately.by Lowell '99 - Hockey

Mark me down in the column "Old People Who Think It's GOOD That The Band Now Plays Some Different Music Than It Did When I Was There, Because That Was Over Ten Fucking Years Ago!" Although I do loves me some Soul Man. 'Cuz I got soul. And Scott, while it did jump bands, at least Silverado has been revived.by Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: Important message to ice hockey ticket holders - 15 years ago
Chris '03ugartejtwcornell91OTOH, I have an equally hard time believing Townie seriously can't tell the difference between a head coach using a slur and some random students using a vulgar expletive. On the third hand, I don't believe that anyone thinks that a slur used by a coach - for which he was roundly excoriated and quickly apologized - is relevant to a discussion of whether the entire studeby Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: Important message to ice hockey ticket holders - 15 years ago
I think the way Andy & Co. deal with people is embarrassing to the university. The several public shouting matches I've personally witnessed Andy himself get involved with is reason enough to be embarrassed. Let alone the work of the associates. Without commenting on the larger issues at hand, I have to agree with Chris on this one. I've seen Athletics staff literally get up in individualby Lowell '99 - Hockey

Re: Seeking a Solution: Watching Home Games at the Cornell Club - 16 years ago
There's also the issue of space at the Cornell Club. The Tap and Grill isn't big enough for much of a crowd (not to mention it doesn't really fit the environment), plus, technically speaking, you have to be a member (or a guest of one) to dine there. There are meeting spaces upstairs, but I don't see them being devoted to this sort of thing, unfortunately. As someone pointed out, it's a privatby Lowell '99 - Hockey

Re: More corporate stadium names - 17 years ago
If you accept that corporate names are a given these days, speaking as a diehard Mets fan, I sort of don't mind "CitiField." Short of a MetLife sponsored "Met ," it's a reasonable option. As Jordan said, the park is whatever you want to call it. I remember when the Utah Jazz and Chicago Bulls built their arenas in the mid 90's. Respectively, they were named "The Dby Lowell '99 - John Spencer Is Dead

redhair34Cornell is 5-0 for the first time in more than 30 years!! Really? I could swear there were a few 6-0 seasons in the last 8 years or so, as well as a string of Cornell being the last undefeated team in the country (although at least one or two of those may have included ties).by Lowell '99 - Hockey
