Re: Underhill Starts - 20 years ago
Ari - if you're watching the game, you can give better updates than I can from radio. Otherwise, I'll post again after the 2nd period.by jkahn - Hockey
Underhill Starts - 20 years ago
Matt Underhill became a last minute starter for the Hawks today, when Michael Leighton came down with the flu. Through one period, one PP GA, 10 saves. I'm listening on radio in Chicago due to the Hawks wondrous policy of no home TV. Had I known he would start, I'd have been there.by jkahn - Hockey
Re: ECAC Finally Signs Playoff TV Deal - 20 years ago
CN-8 is a totally different channel that is on all Comcast cable systems. Unfortunately not. CN8 is only available in Comcast's Mid-Atlantic and New England regions, which cover basically Maryland to Maine.by jkahn - Hockey
Re: ECAC TV ? - 20 years ago
In my continuing efforts to increase ECAC TV coverage, I e-mailed Kristy McNeil, an intern with the ECAC whose name was on the ECAC press release containing the TV schedule. My e-mail and the response are below: Hi Kristy, Saw your press release with the ECAC men's hockey telecast schedule. Are you guys doing anything to try to get the quarterfinals and semis on live television other than Cby jkahn - Hockey
Re: ECAC TV ? - 20 years ago
In my continuing e-mail dialogue with Empire Sports, I sent the following trying to encourage them to pick up semi #2: Thanks for the response. Why the delay on ECAC semi #2, scheduled for Fri. 3/19 at 7:45, as the Sabres aren't playing on Friday? There are thousands of us who would be anxious to watch. Thanks. They responded as follows: A prior programming commitment precludes us from shby jkahn - Hockey
Re: ECAC TV ? - 20 years ago
Since there was a conflict with what Empire Sports emailed to me (i.e. that semi #1 would be on live) and what the ECAC page shows (that semi #1 is on tape delay on Empire), I again e-mailed Empire. I also urged them to put semi# 2 on live, since the Sabres aren't playing that night. They responded by sending me the following schedule, but not addressing the semi # 2 issue. At least it's gooby jkahn - Hockey
Re: ECAC TV ? - 20 years ago
Has anybody checked with NESN? Just checked their website which shows Hockey East games on March 5, 13, 19 and 20. The 19th and 20th would be in the same timeslots as the ECAC final four, so we're out of luck there.by jkahn - Hockey
Re: ECAC TV ? - 20 years ago
I received the following from Empire Sports in response to an e-mail and voicemail regarding ECAC telecasts: Here's the deal, ECAC Semi #1 will be LIVE Friday at 3:30pm. ECAC Semi #2 will run delayed Saturday morning. Also Saturday, BOTH Women's games will air LIVE...but the Sabres play that night so the Men's Championship will air delayed Sunday afternoon. I've e-mailed back Empire Sports aby jkahn - Hockey
Re: ECAC TV ? - 20 years ago
Perhaps good news is that the Sabres don't play on Friday the 19th (the ECAC semi-finals date), so Empire at least doesn't have that commitment blocking the possibility of picking up the games. The Sabres also don't conflict with the quarterfinals, as their only game that weekend is at noon on Saturday.by jkahn - Hockey
ECAC TV ? - 20 years ago
Starting this thread to get info regarding any known TV broadcasts. Each of the last two years a Saturday quarterfinal was shown ('02 Yale @ Cornell on Empire and NESN and '03 RPI @ Cornell on NESN and YES). Also, the Friday semis seem at this point unknown. Perhaps we need to be calling the possible stations to indicate our interest.by jkahn - Hockey

Re: Home or Away for the Playoffs? - 20 years ago
There isn't a way to determine between 1970 and 1972 from the results. However, I can state for sure that there was reseeding in effect in '72. I remember after the game, standing by the radio announcer waiting for the Harvard-Clarkson overtime result as that would determine who we played. We were hoping to avoid having to play Clarkson, who we considered a much tougher opponent than UNH.by jkahn - Hockey
Re: Game thread: Cornell 4, St. Lawrence 1 (final) - 20 years ago
According to John Whelan's script, if Colgate, Brown, RPI, and Dartmouth win and Clarkson beats Cornell, RPI would win the tiebreaker over Cornell and finish in fourth place. Also true if Dartmouth ties or loses (in which case we get 5th in the 3-way tiebreaker).by jkahn - Hockey
Re: The Next Vesce Chooses Harvard - 20 years ago
Actually, the next Vesce is Billy Vesce, Ryan's brother www.atlantichockey.org/cgi-bin/pl_stats.cgi?O=19&L=9&J=28&N=Vesce It doesn't appear that the stats are Ryan-like, but hopefully he'll be a late bloomer. Post Edited (02-27-04 13:33)by jkahn - Hockey

The tune is the Bruce Chanel song, circa 1961, titled "Hey Bâby" without the circumflex over the a. Unfortunately, a prior social commitment will keep me from singing with you.by jkahn - Hockey

Is there any website that one could use to easily identify those players with NCAA backgrounds?by jkahn - Hockey
Re: Cursing at university sporting events - 20 years ago
And Dartmouth, and Harvard, and Brown, and Colgate, and RPI, and Princeton, and Penn...etc. And they all think they're the only ones to do it. You can add BU to that list. I heard it sung in '77 in The Dugout, a BU bar, by a group of students that included Jim Craig. That's back when the rivalry still meant something to them. Re: Friday the 13th part XII - 20 years ago
I hadn't really though about it before, but there were no #13's during my era. There must have been more superstition back then. When I was a kid the baseball announcers always made a big deal about Bill Tuttle of the Tigers being the only player in the league wearing number 13.by jkahn - Hockey
Re: ECAC Predictions - 20 years ago
It isn't the lack of calculating the ties so much as the fact that you've calculated two other teams (Dartmouth and RPI perhaps) to be so close in expected points that there is little room for Cornell to slip in between them. However, although their expected points may be very close, there's a much greater probability of a larger differential between them, giving Cornell more chances to fall inby jkahn - Hockey
Re: ECAC Predictions - 20 years ago
The low probability of 4th place calculated by Keith undoubtedly comes from the fact that using the B-T ratings, two other teams must end up with a very small differential in expected number of points. Thus, Cornell is likely to be either ahead of both of these two very close teams and in 3rd, or fall behind them to 5th. Of course, since the analysis is based on expected value and not probabiltby jkahn - Hockey
Re: Everyone Gets a Point? - 20 years ago
I hate the NHL rule. I was so outraged when I first read about it, that I can remember exactly where I was at the time. Every game should be worth the same amount of total points. If Cornell and Colgate split two overtime games, do both deserve three points? It doesn't make us comparatively better than if we each won a one-goal game in regulation. While I'm not a proponent of soccer's 3 poiby jkahn - Hockey

Re: The hockey-lacrosse crossover thing - 20 years ago
Thanks Al. I was pretty sure I had seen Rule play at Lynah. He probably had one third period, one short stint when he came in only after Cropper lost a shutout late in the game, and the aforementioned game at Princeton - with 2 of the 3 being perfect (albeit short) performances. That puts a more positive spin on it than my previous post, but most importantly, he was there if we ever needed himby jkahn - Hockey
Re: Maine fans - 20 years ago
Year 1 of the Everglades I stayed at the same hotel as Maine (and Clarkson). Many of the Maine players were there with their parents, siblings, etc., making a family vacation out of the trip as well. I'm not sure if we've had the same amount of player's families, and perhaps ours are not as vocal as Maine's.by jkahn - Hockey
Re: The hockey-lacrosse crossover thing - 20 years ago
In Rule's case, Cornell just didn't have anyone to back up Cropper in the '69-'70 season. So, Ned basically convinced Bob Rule, a lacrosse goalie from Manhasset, to join the team and worked to make him the backup goalie. Fortunately, Cropper got through the season without injury. The one game I remember Rule playing in was the last regular season game at Princeton. Cropper started but Rule reby jkahn - Hockey
Re: Past player's number - 20 years ago
I think Sheain (the one from Baltimore) was a lacrosse goalie, and served as an emergency third stringer. I did I quick internet search and found a Trey Sheain from the same high school who is now a freshman lacrosse goalie at North Carolina.by jkahn - Hockey

Re: Past player's number - 20 years ago
I've got some info from the '66-'67 to '69-'70 era (as well as a pretty good memory thereon) and probably some thereafter. Several years ago, I faxed some old programs to Keith so he could post the rosters on his website. I'll be glad to help wherever I can.by jkahn - Hockey
