Re: Alumni in the pros -- December 2014 - 9 years ago
Miscellaneous thoughts: 1) With Paul MacLean out as Ottawa coach, will Colin Greening escape for the doghouse? He's been a healthy scratch for most games. 2) Don't know how many noticed, but Adam Lowry (Joel's younger brother by 16 months) is a rookie with the Winnipeg Jets. He's been playing regularly and in 27 games he's 2g 2a -3 28 PIM. Adam went the Jr. A route.by jkahn - Hockey
Re: Tonight's game v. Penn State - 9 years ago
margolism PS football game + lack of fan base (alumni and students) surrounding new D1 sport = lack of PS fan attendance at MSG Additionally, I heard from a reputable source that Cornell was not happy that Penn State did almost nothing to publicize the game. Better attendance would increase our leverage in negotiating with MSG going forward.by jkahn - Hockey
Re: Tonight's game v. Penn State - 9 years ago
hypotenuse I plead guilty to being a late arrival. We've gone to all the MSG games but one-- including the tournament in 1969 which Cornell won 9-0 and 7-2 v. RPI and Clarkson. Anyway, we've used the games as an excuse to meet friends for a great holiday dinner and they sometimes just run late. To quote another Cornellian, "So it goes."That would be St. Lawrence rather than Clarkson inby jkahn - Hockey

With Colin Greening not suiting up for most of Ottawa's games and the Canes struggling at the same time, I wouldn't be surprised if Ron Francis tried to make a trade for Colin to unite him with Riley Nash. Francis traded for Nash's draft rights after Riley's junior year (Colin's senior year) after watching several Cornell games, as Francis's daughter was a Cornell student at the time.by jkahn - Hockey

sah67 Trotsky ftyuv Brian Ferlin got recalled from Providence, so who knows, maybe he'll play for Boston to start the season. The B's have a bazillion injuries, correct? Go Ferlin! Colgate's schedule shows 1/30 @ Colgate and 1/31 @ Lynah, so that should eliminate the final question marks other than exhibition games.by jkahn - Hockey

Trotsky Rita kicksave Douglas Murray has not played for the Canadiens in the playoffs so far. Healthy scratch every game. Murray is in the line-up for tonight's game in Montreal. He was involved in the scrum at the end of the game as well. 12:22 playing time, +1, with 5 hits and 4 blocked shots. Trotsky Is one of those three the new regular co-host, or are we going solo? Right now, those are all commitments for just 2014. The possibility of a longer term partner is still a "work in progress."by jkahn - Hockey
Re: Frozen Four - 10 years ago
BearLover Josh '99 Chris '03 BearLover The bottom line is that Cornell has a worse chance of finishing at the top of the league, a worse chance of winning the ECAC, and a worse chance of qualifying for the NCAA's than it did ten years ago, and the biggest reason is the better competition. I'm not sure that's entirely true. The increased strength of the ECAC overall has increased the marginby jkahn - Hockey

Estero Tournament Sun. - Mon. Dec. 28-29 Day 1- Game 1: Miami vs. Notre Dame Game 2: Cornell vs. Lake Superior St. note: info came directly to me from Craig Brush, so it's not conjecture. I responded pointing out the obvious conflict with NFL Week 17. Nevertheless, just made hotel reservations.by jkahn - Hockey

ursusminor Trotsky ursusminor Trotsky Union will defend the conference honor alone. Colgate loses 1-0 to Ferris State in a game very reminiscent of our loss 2 years ago, and Q is getting destroyed by Providence 4-zip late in the 2nd. Re: What is your definition of a Successful Season - 10 years ago
andyw2100 jkahn In retrospect, we had "home ice disadvantage" for the playoffs. Winning 2 of 3 vs. Clarkson added 1.6 wins to our W/L record for RPI purposes and added 1.2 losses. So that series didn't help our RPI. Had we won 2 of 3 on the road, we would have added 2.4 wins and only .8 losses. I suspect that would have been good enough to make the NCAA's. Re: Conference Playoffs: Non-conference rooting interests - 10 years ago
With St. Cloud getting eliminated in the NCHC playoffs tonight, it's now also more likely someone below us might grab a spot by winning the NCHC playoffs. That's not good news for us (or Colgate).by jkahn - Hockey
Re: Bracketology - 10 years ago
Despite all the bracketology, making the NCAA tournament is still not an easy task for us. If we beat Clarkson in 3 and get beaten in the ECAC semis, the W/L% component of RPI will cause our RPI to drop .0039. That would pt us 15th today, and certainly put us in jeopardy of not qualifying.by jkahn - Hockey
Re: Favorite Harvard Game Memory - 10 years ago
January 1971 at Lynah. We haven't lost at home in 4 years. Harvard has two absolutely terrific lines: seniors DeMichele-Cavanagh-Owen and sophs Corkery-Hynes-McManama. Trailing 4-3 late, we pull the goalie and Kevin Petit deflects in a Ron Simpson slapshot with maybe 15 seonds left to tie the game. Back then, sudden death overtimes were 10 minutes. We get called for a penalty, and on the PK,by jkahn - Hockey
