Re: ELF success.... - 22 years ago
If anybody actually e-mailed Murray (or any player, for that matter) about an issue like this, I think I might have to vomit. He's a grown man, and he'll make his own decision (for better or worse).by Lowell '99 - Hockey
Bear Head - 22 years ago
Because I like diverting the conversation, I just want to say that JTW is right. The old bear heads were far better than the new Big Red rabid squrriels, just as the old athletics logo was far better than the characterless new ones. Can I make a donation to get rid of those two new ones? I'm serious here. Just tell me who to make the check out to. I'll gladly go into (more) debt for this nobby Lowell '99 - Hockey

Re: NCAA GAME 1 - 22 years ago
I just wanted to say this: god bless all of you giving score updates. I'm stuck on call and can't even listen to the game, but fortunately, there are tons of computers around. Not to get ahead of myself, but I'm wondering if showing up for my exam on April 5th is really all that necessary. I mean, I could take it in Minnesota, or just not take it at all..... Let's Go Red!!! Screw BU, Quinnipby Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: Watching in NYC? - 22 years ago
Ship of Fools will be showing the games this weekend. I hope I'll have a reason to watch on Sunday and see some of you there!by Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: Watching in NYC? - 22 years ago
I have to work during the Saturday game, but if we are fortunate enough to play on Sunday, I'll be heading to Ship of Fools (because it's close).by Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: traveling solo? - 22 years ago
No, no. The unstoppable Chris Parkin will get them . The band is special.by Lowell '99 - Hockey

Perhaps overtime is the best thing to happen to us. Lots of them. Can we get some score updates on this thread?by Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: Poll on Arthur - 22 years ago
Before I read John's or Beeeej's message, I I was going to say that the one (and only) good thing to come out of SportsNight's cancellation was Peter Krause being free to be on HBO's Six Feet Under. And after reading their posts..... well, I said it anyway. It's that good a show.by Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: WTB Game-Worn Jersey - 22 years ago
I've e-mailed the guy in the past and he said he'd sell me any one of the UML Jerseys. I presume he'd do the same for other teams. Just drop him a line and give it a shot. I know that Chartrand one would be way cool.by Lowell '99 - Hockey

Re: We're a damn good ... - 22 years ago
Woof woof. I DID think Yale had a chance. And you can be damn sure I'll be rooting hard for RPI on Thursday. Let's not be overconfident. In one (or two, or three) games, anything can happen. As we've been telling Clarkson for years, first place don't mean jack. Prove it when it counts. Sorry, I'm just paranoid.by Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: Downs article - 22 years ago
And of course, we finished in second last year (tournament wise). Our generally strong playoff performance excepted, we've been only slightly better than mediocre- if that- since the two titles. A lot of that gets obscured by the always ridiculous final ECAC standings, where going into the last weekend, everybody thinks they can be as high as third.by Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: [Off-topic] New West Campus Residential House names - 22 years ago
I actually think the houses may partially succeed in being more of a "living-learning" environment for the dorms, if only from self-selection. Most upperclassmen are still going to move off campus, I'd imagine.by Lowell '99 - Hockey
Arthur - 22 years ago
One of Arthur's strong points that should not be forgotten is his appropriate sense of humor. While some may pander to their home crowds with false enthusiasm and more than a smidgen of "homerism," Arthur judiciously inserts emotion. My favorite- and I'm not sure of the game (it may have been the Union game 3 years ago that ended with a goalie fight)- "We've got ourselves a wholeby Lowell '99 - Hockey
Ivy League Love in SI - 22 years ago
This week's Sports Illustrated has a blurb about Ivy League basketball (specifically, the lack of a tournament and the possibility of a three-way tie this year) and a few lines about Cornell's goalie situation in the "Inside " section. The hockey piece is a part of "Inside College Hockey," hardly a regular feature.by Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: The Student Manager, a Cheer for Rohan - 22 years ago
I'd be willing to go so far as to say that this post was unnecessary (in a good way). When Chandler graduated 4 years ago, he got his recognition with the seniors after the game (or maybe it was before the game- I know it's been changed recently). In any event, I'd imagine the team would want him to have his moment as a token of appreciation, and I'm sure the fans will respond in kind. Yay, clby Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: Everything But Anchovies - 22 years ago
I was very skeptical about the new Hot Truck ownership as well, but I must admit to being happy with how things are. Change is unavoidable, and Hot Truck Mike is a really nice guy. Plus, he doesn't burn the bread like Bob used to. If you want to try a great new school sandwich, I recommend the "Haus," named after my old off-campus house (and home to many, many Cornell BRB trumpet plaby Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: New ECAC Playoff Format - 22 years ago
This brings up one of my favorite annoying sports themes. Will the team have too much "rust," or will they be "well-rested"? Does a team coming off a few wins "have momentum" or are they "due for a loss"? Are they "hungry" or will they "overlook their opponent"? And most important, do they have "bad personal hygiene"?by Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: Changing lyrics? - 22 years ago
Touche, Keith. On a related note, I was procrastinating on ivyleaguesports.com today by looking at the words to the other schools' fight songs. Ours is the best by far. I actually wrote in to SI a few months ago when Rick Reilly did his bit on college fight songs, saying that a tune about getting booted from school for drinking should not go overlooked! Alas, I was denied my fifteen minutesby Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: Music - 22 years ago
Am I the only one who finds most lyrics-changed-to-something-about-Cornell-Hockey incredibly annoying? Sure, "Hey Bâby" is amusing, but for every one of those, there are 50 ill-fated ideas. I'd rather sing the Schafer beer jingle than the new alternate lyrics ANY day. I just can't help but feeling like a 3rd grader doing a poor imitation of Weird Al Yankovic when I sing thoseby Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: New Pep Band CD! - 22 years ago
IMHO, John W. nailed it right on the head. I've probably played that song over a hundred times now (how many third periods are there in 6 1/2 years of hockey?), and I swear it still fires me up just as much now as it did the first time I played it. I know we (meaning me and the people in band during my time) loved playing it, and frequently commented what a rush it must be to step on the ice anby Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: Uncle Ezra on Fish - 22 years ago
The mixed messages with regards to fish tossing drive me batty. While athletics says they do not encourage the tossing of fish (which, I suppose, is to be expected as an official answer), I distinctly remember an ad in the Sun a few years back- placed by Athletics- in the shape of a fish. Do whatever you can to get them in- just throw 'em.by Lowell '99 - Hockey
