scoop85 adamw It's too bad the Cornell Sun and Ithaca Journal both have non-existent daily coverage of the hockey team anymore ... because Mike Schafer made a lot of interesting remarks at yesterday's press conference. Unfortunately we weren't able to be there either until today. (it's not just the Sun and IJ, local newspaper coverage is non-existent, student and "pro," all over the couby nshapiro - Hockey
Re: 2023 ECAC Post Season - 1 year ago
Maybe I am getting too tired, but YATC is now showing Merrimack ahead of us even if they lose, so we might need one of two favorites to win, Hahvahd or St. Cloud, not one of three.by nshapiro - Hockey

Dafatone BearLover ugarte So we need any one of: St. Cloud scores in OT and beats CC Harvard over Colgate - Hey Trotsky where ya at on this? BU over whoever wins UML/Merrimack Right? Right. Harvard and BU will be the favorites, so we have a pretty good shot. The 99.7% number from the CHN model was a complete joke. I’ll keep harping on it until people stop citing it. ugarte nshapiro Is there any source that tells which match will be on which mat, or do I just have to watch that 8-in-1 screen?you can find the upcoming bouts on Track. First guy up is our 125, Brett Ungar, the third match on Mat 8. The mat assignments will have current, on deck and in the hole posted. Re: Opponents and Others, 2022-23 - 1 year ago
BearLover Per nshapiro’s assumptions, that gives us a 98.2% chance of making the NCAAs. The vast majority of that probability comes from Colgate not winning the ECAC. BTW, CHN’s model, which gives Cornell a 99.7% shot, was quoted in the Daily Sun even though Cornell’s chances of making the tournament are probably around six times lower than what the model says. I love that you are quoting my numbby nshapiro - Hockey

BearLover upprdeck If colgate were to win and the other bid stealers fall short the ECAC could get 4.. But why play with fire; First goal is get Cornell in. Let’s go Q! I'll roll the dice and bet some other bid stealers fail. I'm rooting for an upstate NY ECAC final.by nshapiro - Hockey

Re: Opponents and Others, 2022-23 - 1 year ago
Trotsky The 1 and 4 conditions are loosely related (Gate has a slightly higher chance of winning the tournament if we beat Harvard) so you can't just multiply out the probabilities as if they were independent. I know. I thought about accounting for that, but then decided that it wasn't worth it given the completely arbitrary (but hopefully reasonable) estimates I made for everything. ugarte I also have my eye on Berreyesa wrestling for Nickerson at Northern Colorado in the Big 12 tournament and really hope he makes it. The conference is deep but they have 6 bids and though he's not seeded, I can definitely see him getting there - he was 23 in the last coaches poll. I've had the opportunity to talk to him a little and he's a great kid and I know he's still close to his formerby nshapiro - Other Sports

Beeeej nshapiro Beeeej The other prong of that general approach, at least in theory, is that in the general applicant pool there is only one advantage to being a legacy: In the hypothetical situation where there is only one remaining slot and the mythical two otherwise equally qualified applicants, the legacy gets the slot over the non. 617BigRed So sure has been discussed before but is there any chance in relatively near future that UPenn and Columbia get D-I hockey programs and Ivy can form a new 8-team conference with an autobid?! Pretty sure you only need 6 teams in a conference for the auto-bid. I guess that leads to the modified question of why the ECAC doesn't split into two conferences so they get two auto-bids.
