Re: Lake Placid TV Broadcast - 22 years ago
I haven't seen a VCR that records in LP mode in ages, but most of them can still play old tapes that were recorded at that speed. Not an issue for TiVo users. I just tell it to record the game, and the hard drive holds dozens of hours.by mha - Hockey

Just tried listening to 90.3 FM on the radio. Classical music. Hm. How handy.by mha - Hockey
Re: Play-in game (the *real* thread) - 22 years ago
Well, Windows Media Player (which mostly works great under Mac OS X) crashes when I can get as far as getting it launched. That took some doing, because WEOS's web site is just plain broken. I exchanged several e-mails with Mike Black up there today, but I don't think he gets that not everyone uses the same version of the same browser on the same platform that he does. He finally acknowledged thaby mha - Hockey

ECAC awards brunch honors six players & Schafer - 22 years ago

Actually, I was thinking, "Gee, this could have used some editing." I wonder if the web version comes from pre-edit text files, and if today's print edition lacks some of those foibles But isn't this, ironically, the same kind of discussion Gary said we "ladies and gentleman" should raise the bar from? I agree with a lot of what he says in this piece. I don't think he's reaby mha - Hockey

That would impress me a lot more if I hadn't recently shared the press box with them. There were FOUR PEOPLE (or was it five?) on their crew. Don't get me wrong. Where do you get Irish Wakes? Dunno. If none of you Wake-drinkers know how to make one, someone could grab the recipe card from the Chariot before we hit the road...by mha - Hockey
Re: ECAC Hockey on TWC in Ithaca - 22 years ago
I just got home and I'm watching my TiVo recording now while dumping it to tape. The image quality is great other than a little bit of video compression artifacting created by the TiVo. Just watched the instant replay of Noe's first-period goal on the rebound. Nice job, actually. It's really cool how they provided a game clock in the info graphic in the top left corner. Re: ECAC Hockey on TWC in Ithaca - 22 years ago
Word from One Who'd Know is that the ECAC tournament will be on channel 77 on Ithaca's Time Warner Cable this weekend. Won't include the consolation game after all, though. That's just not televised, so TWC can't carry it whether they want to or not.by mha - Hockey
Re: ECAC Hockey on TWC in Ithaca - 22 years ago
I have yet to check my TiVo, which recorded the game on Empire via DISH Network, to see if I also had the signal losses others have mentioned. I picked Empire because it had a cleaner signal than NESN earlier in the day. Hope it wasn't a mistake.by mha - Hockey
ECAC Hockey on TWC in Ithaca - 22 years ago
Perhaps they've hemorrhaged enough subscriptions to DISH Network and DirecTV without UPN programming, but whatever the reason, Time Warner Cable in Ithaca will be carrying this weekend's ECAC tournament. TWC told me they will have the entire ECAC tournament (in the past they've skipped the consolation game) plus the women's final on Sunday. Excellent! Re: LP weather - 22 years ago
I've been keeping an eye on the weather via the last few days. Right now... it's cold. (Shocker.) The forecast as of this moment says chance of rain or snow each day through the weekend, highs in the lower to mid 30s. I would much rather have 30 and snowing than 33 and raining, lemme tell ya. But 40 and sunny would do in a pinch...by mha - Hockey

I think they were down to about ten tickets for each game when Age and I were there, actually... and there were three people in line behind us. If they're not gone now, they're close. My tickets are in section 11 row F on Friday night and section 11 row K on Saturday night.by mha - Hockey
Re: the broadcast of the game today... - 22 years ago
What you're describing sounds like satellite artifacts. In other words, small glitches in the telecast that crop up due to errors or interruptions in the satellite signal. That could easily be accounted for by the high winds in Ithaca today messing with the aim of the transmitter dish.by mha - Hockey

Beeeej hit the nail on the head. Mark Campagnolo's gradual departure from running the business is what sent Joe's on its downhill path the last few years. After Mark finally sold his share of the business, it was only a matter of time before Larry managed to run it into the ground, unfortunately. The Boatyard Grill inherited not only Mark's business sense and talent for running a restaurant, buby mha - Hockey
Re: Archived yahoo broadcasts - 22 years ago
Hey, Keith! A little bird just told me that, in theory, all of the games are archived right after each broadcast and should be available a few hours after the game ends. That's around when the links automagically appear on the cornellbigred.com site. So, you ought to be able to listen to the Dartmouth game online on Saturday before tuning in for Vermont. Or, bag your conflicting plans and listeby mha - Hockey
Need a seat for Saturday - 22 years ago
Hey, folks. The friend I took to tonight's hockey game suddenly remembered how cool Cornell hockey is, and wants to go tomorrow night, too. I don't have a spare ticket for tomorrow, though. If any of you do, please drop me an e-mail or give me a ring at 227-5585. (Until 12:30 is safe Friday night, after 10:30 am is safe Saturday.) Thanks! MHAby mha - Hockey
Re: Cornell v© Brown - 22 years ago
Yep, you seem to be the only one having trouble. (Or, at least, others are getting video just fine right now.) Note that the video stream isn't really tuned for modem connections. If you're on a modem, you can expect to get very little video as QuickTime dumps most of the data to give you smooth audio. MHAby mha - Hockey
