Re: Frozen 4 Game 1 BC vs UND - 16 years ago
What's even more amazing is that Gerbe is the smallest guy in BC's roster, at 5'6, 160 lbs according to uscho.by min - Hockey

The North Dakota defense looks awful, too. It's 5-0 now.by min - Hockey
Re: NCAA Regionals, March 30 - 16 years ago
KillerNevertheless, if it comes down to BC vs. ND, what does the Pope do? Perhaps it depends on the religious order that he belongs to. If he is a Jesuit, then he must have a soft spot for BC, a school founded by Jesuits. But of course, it happens that a Jesuit has never been --and most likely will never be-- elected Pope, so your guess is as good as mine!by min - Hockey
Re: Frozen Four prospects - 16 years ago
Ahh, I see. It's mostly the sanctimonious and obnoxious BC fans who are the problem. Funny, that makes the Cornell QF win in Providence even more memorable and gratifying, if that's possible five years later.by min - Hockey
Re: Frozen Four prospects - 16 years ago
Beyond the personal biases and proclivities, is there any historical reason why Cornell fans should dislike BC? If anything, BC has an outstanding hockey program that is enviable: 7 Frozen Fours in the last 10 years, and going for #8 later today. Sure, one can say that they are the Atlanta Braves of college hockey --BC is 1 for 5 in championship games-- but their record is stellar and almost wortby min - Hockey
Re: 6 More Wins - Starting tomorrow - 16 years ago
It's not often that all four teams in Albany face the same incentives regarding to the national tournament. Lose one game (tonight or tomorrow night) and your season is over. I agree with Beeeej: let's start with one first. (Wait a minute, did I just agree to the most annoying sports cliché of all time?) LGR!by min - Hockey
For you basketball lovers... - 16 years ago
Here is Bill Jame's method for calculating whether a lead is safe at a basketball game: ps: I always wondered if the hockey version heuristically practiced at Lynah --the lead is safe when number of goals ahead is greater than the number of minutes remaining-- is rigorous enough, historically or statistically.by min - Other Sports

Re: selection sunday on now..... - 16 years ago
Just to add another take to the difference between a 13 and 14 seed: according to Wikipedia, since the tournament expanded to 64 teams in 1985, the #3 seed has beaten the #14 seed 77 times out of 92 (84%), and the #4 seed has beaten the #13 seed 74 times (80%). I'd say that's small percentage difference. I already envy those who can make it to Anaheim. LGR!by min - Other Sports
Re: CU at Princeton Men's Hoops - 16 years ago
Jacob '06BeeeejCornell wins 71-64, wrapping up the first full-season Ivy sweep in a very, very long time. Not to be nitpicky, but the last one was only in 99-00: Not to be nitpicky squared, but the last Ivy League sweep really happened in 02-03:by min - Other Sports
Re: Schadenfreude - Harvard hoops skirts the rules, says NYT - 16 years ago
I almost did not get past the first sentence: Harvard has never won an Ivy League title in men’s basketball and has not reached the N.C.A.A. tournament since 1946. And I thought Cornell Hoop's two-decades-old dry spell was bad.by min - Other Sports

Re: Defensemen playing goal? - 16 years ago
sah67 Has anyone heard of a defenseman (or forward for that matter) being forced to play goal in a situation like this? Does the NCAA rulebook even deal with such a situation? I've seen something similar in professional soccer.by min - Hockey

Re: RPI and Union - 16 years ago
Tom Lentolynah80I think the Big Red will collect at least 3 points next weekend with at least a tie at RPI and a win at Union. Someone obviously hasn't paid any attention to Cornell's history against Union. Huh? Cornell's record @ Union in the RS is 8-6-2 (all time) and 4-2-1 since 2000. See It's interesting from the game charts that, if history is all that we have, the Cornell game @ Rby min - Hockey
