BearLover Roy 82 Trotsky We haven't won a conference game in 2 months. We have only lost 3 conference games in the past 2 months! 5, I think? Whoops, I forgot (repressed) last weekend! I put exclamation points at the end of every sentence!by Roy 82 - Hockey

Re: What's going on with this year's team? - 8 years ago
css228 Roy 82 I feel that the stats like time of possession, shots, CF etc. can be skewed against a team that jumps out to an early lead. I would like to see adjusted stats that reflect that a team with a healthy lead would naturally be expected to take fewer shots etc. I haven't checked our stats on that but at least against Q and BU we jumped out to an early lead and probably collapsed into a dby Roy 82 - Hockey
Polls for 2014 - 8 years ago
In the ranking of most influential universities, Cornell is up one spot from 2013: Still behind HYP. Strong showing by Columbia. I hope our NYC campus can make up some ground there. My hockey-related takeaway: Moscow State Uppsala and Humboldt were some top non-English speaking universities. They are also decent hockey nations. Coincidence. Shall we recruit from there?by Roy 82 - John Spencer Is Dead

Beeeej jkahn Beeeej Swampy UML's #8, we're #10. Nice to get the respect, as little as it actually counts for in the real world. And luckily, our next two games are against #1 and (probably) #3 (unless unranked tOSU pulls off a big upset), so at least if we lose those, we shouldn't tank too badly in the voting afterward. cbuckser Roy 82 Trotsky Al DeFlorioILDN shows webcast starting at 8pm est on Saturday. Dumb question: when there is video is there always "production"? It's not like the cameras are automated -- somebody has to be operating them and if there is more than one angle somebody somewhere is deciding when to cut to camera 2. Does the building management actually provide that as a serviceby Roy 82 - Hockey

Kyle Rose Trotsky I'm sure it's hard-wired into his Canadian brain, like "colour" or "aboot." Americans probably say "Maple Leaf Garden." Bostonians have a form of this as well: for some reason, they pronounce "FleetCenter" as "The Gahden". Fixed your post.by Roy 82 - Hockey
Re: Origin of "Red!" during national anthem? - 9 years ago
Sydney Reade Hey Cornell alums! I am writing a research paper on the origins of some of the hockey traditions. Anyone know/remember when and why we started shouting "Red!" during the national anthem when we reach the appropriate lyric? Any help is much appreciated. Re: Cornell Men's Lacrosse 2015 - 9 years ago
RichH I agree. Doubling up a 2-8 team isn't worth much discussion. It's the off season (hockey) and therefore time to get into pointless arguments/discussions: "Doubling Up" is a rare and impressive feat for basketball. Earns the term. It's pretty much meaningless for ice hockey, baseball and football. Somewhere in the middle for lax but somehow seems to imply an overwhelmingby Roy 82 - Other Sports

Chris '03 Trotsky Harvard takes 2 penalties in the final 6:30 to ensure their loss. 21 years since their last tourny win. And the ECAC's reign of terror ends after two titles and three straight years with a team in the Frozen Four. I don't find this outcome comforting in any way.by Roy 82 - Hockey

cbuckser Jeff Hopkins '82 ScrewBUHarvardtoo Happy Randy Wilson Day everybody! Would have loved to be there for that. KeithK Jim Hyla BearLover This team hasn't had a 4-point weekend since November. I don't think we have to worry about any byes. Nobody's worrying, but this thread is labeled "possibilities ". It's more fun to dream of unlikely possibilities (like twelve game winning streaks) than to just write off the team as a lousy .500 squad and look forward to November. jtwcornell91 If Rich had not mentioned Hockey-L, I would have. To this old timer the strange thing about the dominance of social networks is that the model of proprietary online communities failed big time when it was tried in the 90s (AOL, Prodigy, CompuServe) in favor of providers letting everyone on the internet. And yet it is taking over in its current incarnation... Becuase it is free! (orby Roy 82 - Hockey

Amen Rita. I am also struck by how the basic funcitonality of social media such as Facebook is not fundamentally different from a bulletin board/forum. scoop85 I listened to the podcast of Schafer's interview discussing the incoming Freshman class on the ESPN station in Ithaca. A couple of tidbits: 1. He expects an open competition in goal between Gillam and Stewart, and believes they are both excellent goaltenders. Says Stewart is a bit of a late bloomer like Scrivens. 2. He said that Tschantz was going to play another year in the USHLby Roy 82 - Hockey

Re: Cornell lax 2014 post-mortem - 10 years ago
ugarte Roy 82 The only logical answer is the last answer. However, a fun poll should never offer an "I Don't Know" option. If you don't have an opinion then don't take the poll. Strong disagree. People who don't know will still take the poll except their vote would get weighted the same as someone who feels properly informed. Allow the option to shrug at the poll and you screen them outby Roy 82 - Other Sports
