Re: Weekend Playoff Predictions - 21 years ago
My bad. I would have thought though that the ECAC site would have published some guidelines other than "best of 3". The OTs are 20 minutes which does differ from the regular season and might be of interest to the casual fan. Thanks for clearing it up.by nyc94 - Hockey
Re: Weekend Playoff Predictions - 21 years ago
Unless they have changed the rules, you can have a tie in the best of three series. It's really a "three point series" (opposed to a "two-of-three" so if a team wins on Friday night, they can win the series with a tie on Saturday.by nyc94 - Hockey

I'm on the Hasty Pudding list after organizing a CC of Boston event over five years ago. They also got my forwarding address when I moved to New York. Being Harvard students you would think they could process a request to be removed but multiple efforts have been unsuccessful thus far.by nyc94 - Hockey
Re: Playoff tickets - 21 years ago
He should clarify that. The way it's worded sounds like he's selling the vouchers.by nyc94 - Hockey
Re: Playoff tickets - 21 years ago
Getting vouchers for us seems to be nicer idea than trying to call the ticket office on March 10th. That article says they will process those actually at the window first. There is someone on the Ticket Exchange forum that is selling two vouchers for $45 each.by nyc94 - Hockey

OT: YES - 21 years ago
I can't believe YES is going to be tape delayed. Good thing we'll be there. Does anyone know when they will announce and how they might select the first round and quarterfinal games for broadcast?by nyc94 - Hockey

Re: Maine Loses? Cornell #2 in PWR? - 21 years ago
I thought about Syracuse but imagine if we didn't make the tournament. There would be four pretty grumpy teams wondering what the hell they are doing there, skating in front of thousands of empty seats. Of course, I wondered the same thing about North Dakota. I gather it works though. About a month ago there was an article about the Women's regional in 2004 (?) being moved from New Haven to Pby nyc94 - Hockey
Re: Maine Loses? Cornell #2 in PWR? - 21 years ago
I would settle for the 2007 Frozen Four at MSG. It would be no more out of place than the Republican convention in 2004. That's going to be a "riot". According to USCHO, the 2005 Northeast regional has not been awarded although who knows when that page was last updated.by nyc94 - Hockey
Re: Maine Loses? Cornell #2 in PWR? - 21 years ago
I would be less annoyed at keeping the host school at home if it weren't the same cities every year (or two) - Worcester, Providence, Albany, Minneapolis, Ann Arbor, etc. I don't pay attention to these things but when they have a regional in Providence is PC always the host? What about Worcester? Is BU always the host or does it rotate amongst other nearby Hockey East schools? I know the distby nyc94 - Hockey

"Intensive purposes" obviously made it past the word processor's spell checker but "chizzled"? Maybe the kids have some new slang. . . .by nyc94 - Hockey
Re: Interesting hockey poll in the Sun - 21 years ago
I did send the Times an email last year when they went on a streak of several consecutive weekends without printing the hockey scores. No response. They seem to have done better this year although one Sunday they reprinted Friday night's scores. But their hockey coverage is roughly the same volume as their yachting coverage - and I'm not just talking America's Cup. Anyway, I didn't mean to imby nyc94 - Hockey
Re: Interesting hockey poll in the Sun - 21 years ago
I catch an average of three errors per day in the New York Times. Sure, it's a bigger paper but the Sun is put together (mostly) by unpaid students in the middle of the night. I think the Times has less excuse and we let them slide. Or do we? Their college hockey coverage sucks.by nyc94 - Hockey
Re: USCHO Poll 2/10 - 21 years ago
That's the most ridiculous thing I've heard. BU isn't even in Worcester. The logical thing would be for BC, BU, Northeastern, Harvard, UMass, etc. to get together and co-sponsor the event thus covering all of their interests. Maybe we should sponsor one at Madison Square Garden. There is no competing Division I hockey program in New York. And I wouldn't have to travel. Or maybe Princeton shby nyc94 - Hockey
Re: USCHO Poll 2/10 - 21 years ago
Does "hosting" a regional really mean you get to play in it? Basketball doesn't follow that convention does it? I assumed that the school and conference were the hosts, separate from the team.by nyc94 - Hockey
Today's Crimson - 21 years ago
From this mornings Harvard Crimson sports section: "Because as Harvard proved last year—when things looked much, much worse than they do now—there is life A.B. (After Beanpot). That part of the puck calendar starts this weekend, with the Crimson’s absolutely critical home series with an upstart Colgate (3-1 in its last four games) and rival Cornell, which is now two points ahead of Harvardby nyc94 - Hockey

Re: top 15 2/7 - 21 years ago
It seems to me that the number one seeds and region assignments are going to hinge on the outcome of the conference tournaments - especially the Hockey East tournament and us winning the ECAC tournament. Forgetting PWR for a moment, I think it is perceived that if we are any good (by which I mean top four good) we will win the ECAC and if we don't then we aren't worthy of a #1 seed. Re: Way OT: Armenia - 21 years ago
I knew you were referring to Cornell heritage which is why I changed my subject to "Way OT". I was just curious when Marty mentioned Armenia because I think outside of my own family I haven't randomly encountered too many: One guy in high school and Prof. Terzian's daughter in my class at Cornell.by nyc94 - Hockey
Re: Way OT: Armenia - 21 years ago
Thanks for taking the time to reply. Spelling has been a big hurdle in my mother's research as is the hand written entries on census records, naturalization papers, etc. My grandparents name was Chakerian which in some records was spelled Tchakerian. Apparently this convention originates with the French and their influence on international postal standards. And I think the legend of Ellis Islby nyc94 - Hockey

Do you know much about your grandparent's history in the "old country" and travels to the US? My mother's parents were from Armenia although they left at different times at actually met here. Re: Albany Ticket Time? - 21 years ago
Would a current student explain how Cornell did student season tickets this year and in recent seasons? I was within the unfortunate mob scene that developed behind Schoelkopf in the fall of 1991 which resulted in the "line number checks" and the "Lynah slumber party" of 1992.by nyc94 - Hockey

"No one cares if you care what Europe thinks." I would never say that to anyone on this board. I care that you have opinions and I'll respect you even if you disagree with me. Doesn't mean I have to like what you have to say. Again, I think I've raised some questions here about statements made by some Democratic leaders.
