2023 NCAA baseball tournament - 11 months ago
Penn became the first Ivy League team to beat a SEC team in the tournament (Auburn) and after yesterday, is one win away from being the first team in the conference to get to the round of 16 in the current format. Not much chatter about it locally given Penn's perception and relationship with the city, but definitely a big deal given the relative lack of national success the conference has had inby Iceberg - Other Sports

I'd be surprised if the Colgate series is not the week after Thanksgiving. That first week of January will probably be off given the holiday tournament in Lake Placidby Iceberg - Hockey

I suppose we can start off this thread with today's announcement of Colgate's new head coach. That leaves Schafer as the longest tenured head coach in the conference I thinkby Iceberg - Hockey

TrotskyOTOH, the most serious students I've ever seen at any school are Community College students, because they're paying out of their own pocket. If you're studying Philosophy at a CC it's because you fucking want it. it's not just a credential you're picking up between frat parties on your way to working at Dad's firm. I can think of quite a few people at Cornell who came from a CC, were fby Iceberg - Hockey
Re: Ray Sawada - 1 year ago
Weder Ray was among a small number of players in men's team history of Asian descent. The others I can think of from recent years were Dustin Mowrey and Misha Song. Any others? Noah Bauld? And I remember Mowrey. Very cool and down to earth guy whom I shared a few classes withby Iceberg - Hockey

arugula Considering the variety of schools to whom we have lost big games over the last decade or two, I suspect we are our own nemesis. Yeah, throughout all the discussion I wanted to say that Schafer (and his staff) has largely done the best he can given the internal and external challenges that Cornell faces, but if you're going to knock him for one thing, it's his record in the regional finby Iceberg - Hockey

I'd expect Duluth to be at Lynah next season and then BU at MSG along with the holiday tournament games at Lake Placid. UND doesn't play at Lynah until 2024-25 as mentioby Iceberg - Hockey

I made a quip about athletic procurement with the whole ticket fiasco a few weeks ago, but now I really wonder about the competence or concern of whoever is running procurement for the athletics function/unit.by Iceberg - Other Sports

scoop85 Iceberg Without having watched BU throughout the year, I'm going to take a wild guess and say that this is that team's best defensive game of the season Good coaching job by them. Doing what Harvard did to us last week. Definitely. These one-and-done formats favor skilled teams that can actually play defense. Speed and skill can't be coached but defense definitely can be. cu155 Excellent on ESPN+ Brought up VPN as they were asking for an international feed so was assuming they might be outside of the US. ESPN+ is region locked (or maybe just blocked) at least for China so VPN is the only way to access even when paying for the service. Yeah, that's why I asked. I happen to be out of the US right now and ESPN+ is blocked. I guess I'll pick one of the VPN'sby Iceberg - Hockey

Jeff Hopkins '82 I miss throwing sieves on the ice after a goal. And the "hey sieve, xyz called..." chant went on far too long, especially since nobody could even hear what they were saying. It was just a 20 second pause followed by "You suck!" ad infinitum. I loved those. They were a staple of the games I went to in the early 2010's. Unfortunately, if you weren't neaby Iceberg - Hockey

Barring a last minute comeback, St. Cloud will win, meaning Merrimack would be the last team in. Wild season when you have 4 ECAC teams and Merrimack getting into the NCAA's as an at-large bidby Iceberg - Hockey

Ken711 Cop at Lynah I actually asked Andy about this project back in June or July and he said the cost of construction had increased to a degree that the project was not viable until the costs came back down I guess I don't understand how are the costs going to come down? Unless, perhaps they scale back the size of the project, construction costs are always going higher every year. Exactlyby Iceberg - Other Sports
Re: ECAC QF Game 2: Clarkson at Cornell - 1 year ago
Better game than yesterday I thought. The Psenicka goal was huge although it would've been interesting to see how the game would've changed if another goal goes on one of the multiple PP opportunities in the 2nd period. Heider kept it from being more than 1-0 for a while but the offense was present during the whole game as it has been in every other game against Clarkson this season.by Iceberg - Hockey

dbilmes Now The Athletic has a long article (paywall) about problems in the Harvard women's hockey program. It will be interesting to see if Harvard continues to stand by the coach. This type of publicity won't hurt the overall image of Harvard, but it's going to make recruiting players for the women's hockey program more of a challenge. Trotsky Either I'm missing something or the entire capability is worse than useless. How hard would it be to have "Dartmouth" in the search pane followed by enter filter the results according to, you know, Dartmouth.
