Re: Who’s our biggest embarrassment? - 2 days ago
scoop85 toddlose Just curious on everyone’s thoughts. Doesn’t need to be political. Every institution has someone that they wish wasn’t associated with their Alma mater. As much as I might like to say Ann Coulter, this guy has to be #1Bill Maher, even compared to this guy.by ugarte - John Spencer Is Dead
Wrestling 2024-25 - 9 days ago
It's still summer, so there's no Cornell wrestling for a while but I may as well start the thread now anyway because there's news. First, Kyle Dake is back in the Olympics and that starts soon. The Russians are out, so his chances of bringing home gold, which were already decent, are now even better than decent. Second, we have a great incoming class of at-least-greyshirts in 2025. Re: ASU in January - 30 days ago
dbilmes BearLover The only opponents that would sell enough tickets to make a profit are the Big 10 schools, BU, BC, maybe a few other Hockey East schools like UConn, and North Dakota. If I recall correctly, UConn did not draw a big crowd to MSG a few years ago.And they were a top 5 team at the time (and not for much longer).by ugarte - Hockey
Re: 2024-25 MEN'S SCHEDULE - 30 days ago
scoop85 BearLover RichH BearLover Trotsky MTU, LSSU, and NMU are also great choices. Wait, why do we want schools who will bring approximately zero fans? More seats for Cornell fans? So now you don’t want to dominate everything? There are already enough seats for all the Cornell fans who want tickets. The difference would be that instead of BU fans, there would be empty seats. Yeah, thoseby ugarte - Hockey

Folks, it's been a while but ALAB Series is back. We are in the middle of a multi-part series on Alex Jones and the Sandy Hook litigation and while there was an 18 month gap between parts 1 and 2, all three parts are here. 1 - 2 - 3 Plus our first episode back was a lighter one about a food labeling lawsuit against Cold Stone Creamery and Giuliani's legal troubles. pfibiger BearLover ugarte BearLoverI guess Syer understood he wasn’t going to be the next head coach, and so he left? He wasn't the only one who understood this! pfibiger underskill Meh. Casey Jones is underwhelming Totally disagree. He was a great recruiter at Cornell, has done well with a program in a tough spot at Clarkson. I think he can be great.Plus it screws Clarkson.by ugarte - Hockey
Re: Mike Schafer retiring 2025 - 6 weeks ago
BearLover I’m not sure what to make of this situation. Casey is only 5 years younger than Mike, so it’s not like this change is infusing the program with young blood... It's not like either of them are all the old! Schafer is barely in his 60's, but he's had health problems and has been at the helm for decades of success. Good combination of reasons to hang it up. BearLover Trotsky BearLover Redpucks1! Disappointing to say the least. I really thought there was a decent chance that CU would get at least one of the three with their connections to either Ithaca or St. Andrew’s College. The good news is that Cornell continues to do an incredible job of identifying players that fit their style and culture. This past years freshmen class is a prime example.by ugarte - Hockey

BearLover The settlement is happening: - How will it affect the sports like hockey and lacrosse where Cornell can actually compete with the Michigans and Notre Dames of the world? This settlement obviously does not benefit Cornell (or any school not in a Power 4 football conference). The question is whether the $20m per school that can now be paid directly to athletes goes almost entirelyby ugarte - Other Sports
