Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: St. Lawrence at Cornell, 2/2 - 3 months ago
VIEWfromK For me the shift away from Lynah began when the Men’s basketball team went on their back to back NCAA tournament runs. Well, until last Saturday’s Princeton game Newman has been pretty much a ghost town for the better part of a decade. I think the cheap streaming (which I’m thankful to have) is the biggest factor in the attendance drop-off.by scoop85 - Hockey

rss77 And some players who can put the basket. Cornell has been pretty poor especially shooting 3s. Proving my point.by scoop85 - Other Sports
Re: Womens Basketball - 3 months ago
dbilmes How about some love for the women's basketball team. They beat Dartmouth handily for their first Ivy win in a battle for the basement. Glad for them, but that program needs new leadership.by scoop85 - Other Sports

Trotsky Still shows as Cornell on Elite Prospects, but there appears to be an X tweet where he announces for RPI. I think what you see on X is him retweeting another kid who announced his commitment to RPIby scoop85 - Hockey

ugarte George64 As I recall, back in the Donahue era, Louis Dale was a walk-on... Dale wasn't a walk-on; he was an under-recruited gift who marketed himself to Donohue as a dynamic but 5'9 guard with an Ivy academic profile. I also don't think Foote was a walk-on for the Bonnies, he just wasn't getting much playing time and was apparently miserable. What you say about Dale is correct, but Fooby scoop85 - Other Sports
Re: Men’s Basketball 23-24 - 3 months ago
chimpfood I’m surprised he wasn’t recruited just for being 6 foot 7 and 235 pounds of muscle. Yeah, so many quality players are missed by college coaching staffs. Look at a guy like Ja Morant (putting aside his personal issues), whose dynamic talent was overlooked by all the power schools.by scoop85 - Other Sports
Re: Men’s Basketball 23-24 - 3 months ago
Mr. Niss - we moved up only 9 in Ken Pom with the win but Princeton fell like 15 spots -- we should have swapped spots* - I legitimately felt Brian Earl should have been considered for coach of the year votes for the season coming out of Covid, when we were picked to be second-to-last in the Ivies and he implemented this run-and-gun style and had us in the Ivy tournament. He's a great coach aby scoop85 - Other Sports
Re: Men’s Basketball 23-24 - 3 months ago
Kudos to Brian Earl and his staff for building this team with guys who were, by and large, unheralded recruits with few if any other D1 offers. And how about walk-on AK Okereke who scored 12 points today? He fills an important roll on the team and is getting better each game. While an Ivy League title is a long way off, it will be nice to see Cornell listed in this week’s Joe Lunardi braketolby scoop85 - Other Sports

Dafatone adamw RichH upprdeck if go on any kind of a run we get our RPI above .5600 and we move up 3-5 spots.. Are we good enough to do that. Like unbeaten in their last 7? That kind of run? Some of us need to chill out about the PWR situation in January and enjoy the rest of the regular season. We’ve barely begun the 2nd half of the league slate. Things are typically still fluid into March.by scoop85 - Hockey
Re: Cornell at Harvard, 1/26 - 3 months ago
Always good for a chuckle when the announcer, in acknowledging the large Cornell contingent in a visiting rink, says “they always travel well from Ithaca.” As if there aren’t thousands of Cornell alumns within spitting distance of most of the rinks we play in.by scoop85 - Hockey
Re: Cornell vs Quinnipiac, 1/20 - 3 months ago
BearLover Trotsky BearLover Trotsky arugulaGrady wouldn’t have mentioned it. That would require paying attention. Jason perhaps. Not Grady. Grady is an excellent announcer. Your comment was bad and you should feel bad. Unfortunately, Grady spends too many words on random tangents and not enough on the game itself. He needs to track the action better. I love him. JasonN95 Aren’t students returning this weekend? If yes, I’d wait for the next home weekend to evaluate the student section. In our day we’d be sure to come back Friday when break ended to attend both of the weekend games. It was a sacrifice of course to spend the weekend at school with no schoolwork to worry about, but that was before Cornell apparently became a place where fun came to die.by scoop85 - Hockey

upprdeck scoop85 I just noticed that there’s no game write-up yet on the Cornell Athletics’ website. Hard to fathom that a school with our resources would allow such an embarrassment. you mean Athletics get their act together? I did find the game summary, but it wasn’t showing on the home page. And to their credit they actually have game quotes! Jane McNally also had a nice game story in tby scoop85 - Hockey

BearLover scoop85 Castagna is a beast, and is just scratching the service. Just a fantastic freshman class across the board. I thought the Barron-Galajda-Donaldson class would be our best for years, but this current group is deeper and likely more talented overall. Who knows how things turn out, but at the moment it’s not even close: Barron one of the best players at Cornell in decades, now anby scoop85 - Hockey
Re: Recruits 2024 and Beyond - 3 months ago
ursusminor Since Cornell also gets players from the BCHLwhich left Hockey Canada, this may be of interest. Interesting development for sure. The BCHL and stronger AJHL teams have for years been producing more high level D1 talent than the eastern Canada Junior A leagues, and this move seemingly will exacerbate that trend.by scoop85 - Hockey

sah67 Malinski had the GWG (on a power play) in Colorado’s 7-4 win over Ottawa. Video: By all accounts he’s adapting well to the NHL, and is making a case to become a regular in the lineup.by scoop85 - Hockey
Re: Recruits 2024 and Beyond - 4 months ago
In my listing I forgot to include our new recruit, forward Parker Murray. In 17 games with Penticton and Chilliwack of the BCHL he has 4 G, 6 A. And today we got a commitment from Michael Dec, a forward from St. Andrews College who turns 17 in a couple of weeks. In 28 games Dec has 11 G, 12 A. Hopefully he goes on a growth spurt, as Elite Prospects lists him as 5’7” and only 134 lbs.by scoop85 - Hockey

BearLover This season has been the Robertson and Seger show so far. It is promising that Psenicka and DeSantis have finally started producing. This seems like a good team, but when we're scoring it's usually just the product of sheer number of chances/sustained possession rather than fast break/passing plays. Yeah, Robertson and Seger (along with Shane) have been our best players so far in my eby scoop85 - Hockey

Dafatone These announcers aren't the very worst, but they're... not homers so much as treating ASU as the main character? They have nothing to say about Cornell or its players. Ugh they just called us Colgate. Students, so I cut them a bit of slack. But I’ve watched SU students call games (soccer comes to mind) and they are far more polished.by scoop85 - Hockey

marty redice marty nshapiro Anyone else having problems getting WHCU to play? Get out your antenna. It's on the air but not streaming. A REALLY long antenna for 870khz... Good luck with that. I was listening in the car on Troy on the way to the RPI- Clarkson game. A better crowd here tonight but in general attendance has been poor @ RPI. Almost no students last night. Re: Cornell in the Valley of the Sun - 4 months ago
upprdeck Not sure I would say ASU dominated the 3rd.. They scored but they only got 5 shots and cornell possessed the puck for much of it.. The one post shot loomed large as it came right before the 2nd ASU goal. 3x3 we had several chances with speed as well. PP is gonna haunt this team all year. I thought in both games against ASU we were the better team by a fairly large margin. But ouby scoop85 - Hockey

chimpfood This is so infuriating On so many levels. While we certainly seemed to get hosed on the 2nd overturned goal, the fact is our power play could have salted this game away, but we failed miserably.by scoop85 - Hockey
