Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Harvard @ Cornell, 12/2/2022 - 1 year ago
Correct on ECAC standings. In pairwise, an OT win counts as 0.67 of a win and an OT loss is 0.33, changed from last year's 0.55 and 0.45 .by Give My Regards - Hockey

This is a change to Rule 14 ("Adjustments to Clothing and Equipment" ) that was adopted this season. Text of the proposal: "Goalkeeper equipment issue (protocol). The Ice Hockey Rules Committee added additional guidance when goalkeepers have an equipment issue. When an equipment issue causes the goalkeeper to come to the bench for assistance, officials shall instruct the coachby Give My Regards - Hockey

Re: Binghamton perhaps adding D1 hockey? - 1 year ago
Back when Binghamton was Div III, 25 to 30 years ago (damn, I'm old), they had a varsity hockey team. They were doubleplusungood, losing something like 58 in a row at one point.by Give My Regards - Hockey

Give My Regards Jim Hyla So does this mean none of you would have reviewed the fifth down? I wouldn't have reversed it a freakin' hour after everyone left. Gad -- sorry, I just realized that answer didn't make any sense. Yes, I'm OK with the decision to give up the win in the fifth down game. I would not have been OK with the Ivy League commissioner stepping in after the game ended and decby Give My Regards - Hockey

Jim Hyla So does this mean none of you would have reviewed the fifth down? I wouldn't have reversed it a freakin' hour after everyone left. Frankly I'm happy with what they did. It takes it out of the hand of the other team admitting that they won illegally and then trying to figure out way to correct it. I've more or less made my peace with replay reviews, but there needs to be a timeby Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: ECAC playoffs 2022 - 2 years ago
billhoward St. Lawrence really doesn't need room reservations Saturday night in Hamden. Q's only non-wins in the ECAC are: 2-2 tie and 3-1 loss vs. Clarkson 2-1 loss, OT, and 1-0 loss vs. Cornell 1-0 loss vs. Harvard ... so any of the top-four teams perhaps could beat Quinnipiac in a single-game elimination in Lake Placid. St. Lawrence, taking 2 of 3 this weekend? Certainly a tall order.by Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: ECAC playoffs 2022 - 2 years ago
marty Since Dartmouth apparently won the tie breaker vs Yale this begs as to why they pulled their goalie in OT vs Union last night. I would suspect there was confusion about what the tiebreaker actually was. Even though the first tiebreaker now reads "Comparison of points attained head-to-head" rather than "head-to-head record", it's likely they thought they would lose itby Give My Regards - Hockey

Robb ACM Guess there was a massive bookkeeping exercise at the end of last night's game. Minors and miscoducts against everyone on the ice. What I once referred to as "a whole mess of penalties".Was that the Damian Rocke game? Leeor Shtrom.by Give My Regards - Hockey

Re: 2022 ECAC Permutations - 2 years ago
billhoward The short version is this? 4. Cornell 33 points going into the final weekend 5. Colgate 30 points ECAC points in league games: win 3 points, overtime or shootout win 2 points, OT or shootout loss 1 point. If the outcome of Cornell & Colgate is based on is based on winning against lower-ranked (ECAC standings) teams, losing to higher-ranked, Cornell and Colgate both goby Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: 2022 ECAC Permutations - 2 years ago
And now the War-and-Peace version: Back after a one-year hiatus (like pretty much everything else in the world), it’s the ECAC Playoff Permutations! As I've repeatedly shown, I'm a complete nut-ball about figuring stuff like this out, and the adoption of the three-point system with its regulation vs. overtime values, along with the ever-popular shoot-out, has made this whole process eveby Give My Regards - Hockey
2022 ECAC Permutations - 2 years ago
Gad, what a pain. Well anyway, first the short version: Possible ECAC tournament seedings (the number in parentheses is the best seed the team can get with no help): Quinnipiac 1-3 (1) Clarkson 1-3 (2) Harvard 1-3 (3) Cornell 4-6 (4) Colgate 4-7 (5) Rensselaer 4-10 (6) Princeton 5-12 (7) Brown 6-12 (8) Unionby Give My Regards - Hockey

Robb ACM Robb ugarte Trotsky We are all Sullivan Mack. someone else will remember who this was but there was a player when I was at Cornell who had no goals his entire career. Senior year, he lined up an empty-netter and a teammate vultured it by redirecting a shot that was already on target. Trotsky OTOH we could be 5 losses from golf now. What a very strange season. Maybe they're trying to wrap it up as soon as possible to go easy on Mike's heart. Yeah, well, watching that wasn't particularly good for my heart; I can't imagine it was 100% beneficial for his.by Give My Regards - Hockey

Trotsky Scersk '97 George64 Trotsky Right now no lead is safe because we haven't proved we can win at all. At least if the team gets a couple of wins this weekend projections of minimal competence over the final 6 games will make some sense. At the moment, "if these trends continue" would project us going about 0-4-4 down the stretch (and losing all of the shootouts, naturally). Aby Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: Schafer's health - 2 years ago
billhoward Trotsky No one will care if we finish the season with a win. In the last game, absolutely. Note that St. Lawrence finished with a win last season. Come to think of it, so did Clarkson.by Give My Regards - Hockey

Re: Dartmouth Game Thread - 2 years ago
jtwcornell91 I don't see the point in pretending there's a difference between losing in OT and in a shootout. They're exactly the same in the league standings (unless they affect tiebreakers, which the ECAC has still not given a straight answer about AFAIK) ECAC Tie-Breaking Procedures from the website. Regarding shootout results, the second tiebreaker, league wins, counts only regulationby Give My Regards - Hockey

RichH djk26 I knew there was a penalty shot in a game this year--so this is as good a place as any to post the question--certainly not worth a new thread. What happens if a skater is taken down by the opposition while skating to an empty net with the puck? Al DeFlorio Scersk '97 Trotsky Blow away the First Round*, only take the top 8, and use the 13 days between the end of the present RS and the beginning of the QF to shake out all the unplayed games. * Do this anyway. There is enough churn on the bottom now that we don't have the old problem that somebody never got to play because they always sucked. Re: Yale game postponed - 2 years ago
This is all starting to remind me of an old Peanuts cartoon in which Lucy reveals her strategy for winning a baseball game: "Tell the other team we will play them at a certain place, but that won't be the real place. Then, when we go to the real place and they don't show up, we win by forfeit."by Give My Regards - Hockey
