Alumni in the Pros - February 2007 - 17 years ago
I was at the game... I did not notice Murray all that much (which for a D-man, I usually consider a good thing)... i thought he maybe got 10-12 minutes.. but checking the scoresheet I see he had 18! he kept it simple getting rid of the pucks and was engaging Caps in front of the net. Doesn't have the speed to keep up at times, but seemed to make up for it with good positioning. Also wasn't gettby redGrinch - Hockey
Re: 2007-2008 Schedule - 17 years ago
This quote is in this week's USCHO's ECACHL column. Grand Forks!?! Schafer agreed, noting successful arrangements with BU, North Dakota and New Hampshire in the next few years. "We could , but we attempt to reciprocate," he said, referring to the commonly practiced art of paying smaller programs to play at your rink. Schafer feels that Cornell requires "a minimum of 15 orby redGrinch - Hockey

kaarenPokulok was cleared to play yesterday and was sent down to the ECHL South Carolina Stingrays from Hershey for rehab, flying into Charlotte (an away game against the Charlotte Checkers) an hour and a half before game time. He was +1 with an assist in a 3-2 loss. Today,at a home game in Charleston, he had a goal and an assist against the Daytona Bombers and was named the first star of thby redGrinch - Hockey

Re: Alumni in the Pros -- December 2006 - 17 years ago
The worst part about Pokulok's injury is he's missing out on development time and falling behind the depth chart in Washington. The Caps have a lot of D-prospects... and the D they've already got is young (Morrison - 24; Eminger - 23; Mike Green - 21). Even John Erskine is only 26... and he's played well enough so far to earn a look in the Caps future years. here's a good blog post about a cby redGrinch - Hockey

Re: Next Year's OOC Games & Other Stuff - 18 years ago
The Niagara games never bother me because they're local.... but given our games limitation, maybe we only need one of those? Excluding Florida, having no HE/WCHA/CCHA OOC games is ridiculous though.... and I can't remember the last time this happened. At least in recent years, we had MSU, BU, WMU, OSU, among others. I can understand from a budget standpoint not wanting to trek to Minneapolis,by redGrinch - Hockey

Jeff Hopkins '82profudgeI think this is needed maturation and a good thing On the other side - w/ Bill T. from UNO signing with Coyotes for reportedly somewhere in the 800 - 900K range a year and now Ryan Potulny from Minn. signing pro with the flyers I htink we willsee several more NCAA folks sign soon ... I know it's on USCHO, but nothing about Potulny signing on either the Flyersby redGrinch - Hockey

ninian '72Did a quick check on the Caps message board regarding prospects. Not that their speculation is any more informed than ours regarding where players will be next year, but there are a number of scenarios with Sasha that are tied to the Caps long-term rebuilding process. Mgmt thinks highly of their young defense prospects, but they appear to be overstocked. The Caps really loaded up onby redGrinch - Hockey
Re: CU-UW pre-game - 18 years ago
trainbowIt's not quite dawn in Badgerland at the moment, so perhaps that's why the only online mention of Cornell's win in the Madison press I could find was a brief aside in an article about UW winning in Round 1. The big behind-the-scenes story was that the Badgers benefited from the Minnesota loss: a team meeting Friday night right after UW watched the UMinn defeat made the point -- it couldby redGrinch - Hockey

Bio '04nyc94The closer it gets to game time the more cars you'll encounter on 79. I just made it for the anthems at the Nov. 2004 Harvard game. That sounds like my experience when I drove up with Molly. We were trying to get to that game in time for warmups but were relieved to get there by the anthems (I think). Lesson learned- leave before noon if coming from DC because driving through Harby redGrinch - Hockey
pokulok article - 18 years ago
From the Lebanon Daily News, fwiw. It's not clear what the writer's source is. The Semin mention has stirred up the Caps message board, mainly because it hasn't been locally reported in the DC press. I've privately been hoping the Caps trade Friesen to SJ for Murray and a middling pick. SJ's apparently interested in Friesen, and I think that's probably about the right price. Re: 2005-2006 PWR - playoffs edition! - 18 years ago
the short answer. I'll have others provide the full mathematical analysis RPI = 25% of the team's record, 50% of opponent's records, 25% of opponents' opponent's records. Opponent's records exclude your games aginst them - similarly for OO records. So it's possible that even if you beat a team (e.g. Brown; Northeastern, etc), your RPI will go down because of the weight on opponent's recorby redGrinch - Hockey
Re: Who do we want to face? - 18 years ago
The higher seed wears the home jerseys and always gets last line change. As long as everyone gets healthy these next 2 weeks, doesn't matter who we face in the QFs. Based on their play this year, I do almost fear the QF matchups more than games in Albany.by redGrinch - Hockey
Re: 2005-2006 PWR - 18 years ago
WinnabagoDoes that mean that we should drop a few in the PWR? I always get incensed this time of year when such inane scenarios start to play out. Come on, it has to be a neutral game, no matter what. Am I the only one who feels like it's a big part of the western dominance lately in the tourney? They're getting home games and revenue out of the national tournament! Playing anyone on their hby redGrinch - Hockey
Re: 2005-2006 PWR - 18 years ago
I know it's early, but anyone else see the potential nightmare of going to Grand Forks to play UND? And then Minnesota. I think Michigan deserves that fate more than anyone else, for the hell that WCHA teams have had for going to play at Yost or Grand Rapids against Mich for a regional.by redGrinch - Hockey

16-0 (?!?!) Canada over Italy and they're pounding Russia now 7-0 at the end of the first. They're coached by Melody Davidson, who's on leave as the head coach of Cornell's women's team. have heard a couple mentions of Cornell in the telecasts.by redGrinch - Other Sports
Re: 2005-2006 PWR - 18 years ago
RobbA scary possibility was mentioned over on USCHO: What if UND makes the tournament as the #13 overall seed and we're the #4 overall seed? So they place Minnesota in Grand Forks, Wisconsin in Green Bay, Miami in Worcester, and Cornell in Albany. Next thing they do is put UND in Grand Forks, creating an intra-conference matchup. So what do they do? The serpentine bracket would call forby redGrinch - Hockey
Re: 2005-2006 PWR - 18 years ago
Well, on a similar note.... does anyone know the effect of having the ECAC host Albany with respect to ECAC teams going there? Put another way, BU has to go to Worcester; UND would go to Grand Forks. We if RPI were going, they'd be tied to Albany. But what effect, if any does having the ECAC be a host have on teams placed there..... or is it strictly a money thing for the conference?by redGrinch - Hockey
Pokulok - Hockey's Future - 18 years ago
Summaries of all the Caps NCAA players, including Pokulok. I had forgotten how many college players the Caps had. The article also reinforces the idea that Sasha will be in Ithaca 4 years, unless he wants out. Though I guess it also doesn't consider Joe Nieuwendyk a "high-caliber" NHL talent. I guess for all those worried about Pokulok and O'Byrne leaving early - Doug Murray wasby redGrinch - Hockey
