If we think our freshmen are good, BC has an all-freshman line which has combined for 38 goals this season.by dbilmes - Hockey

If you don't want to pay for parking at Lynah East next season, anyone who puts a deposit down on Harvard season tickets by April 15 for 2024-25 gets a free parking pass for next season!by dbilmes - Hockey

Cornell's first win at Harvard since 2019. The last time Cornell was 6-0 in Ivy League was 2010. Also, Cornell's 10 road wins are tied for most in the NCAA.by dbilmes - Other Sports

Nice to see a good bounce-back from the near-debacle at Dartmouth. Hopefully, we can give Yale a good game next Saturday.by dbilmes - Other Sports
Re: Women 2023-24 - 2 months ago
Cornell wins 3-0 despite being outshot 45-16. Bergmann with her second shutout. Clarkson pulled goalie with about three minutes left. Cornell's third goal was a breakaway by Karel Prefontaine, a freshman who now has 9 goals and does a nice job of filling in for the injured Chan on Cornell's top line. Cornell's win kept Clarkson from tying Colgate for first place.by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Womens Basketball - 2 months ago
How about some love for the women's basketball team. They beat Dartmouth handily for their first Ivy win in a battle for the basement.by dbilmes - Other Sports
Re: Men’s Basketball 23-24 - 2 months ago
We were lucky to win after shooting 6-for-31 on 3-pointers. Kudos to Cornell, though,, for pulling out a win on a night when it played poorly. As the ex-Dartmouth coach who was doing the ESPN-plus commentary kept saying toward the end of the game, Cornell knows how to pull out close games, as evidenced by its record. If we play like this against Yale next week, though, we'll get blown out. Yale'sby dbilmes - Other Sports

Cornell opened game against Dartmouth on a 19-0 run over the first 10 minutes of the game. Hopefully, they can keep Dartmouth from crawling back into the game.by dbilmes - Other Sports
Re: Women 2023-24 - 2 months ago
Cornell has seven shorthanded goals this season. If that's not a team record, it's got be close.by dbilmes - Hockey

randyranger That SI article is priceless! Sadly, reading this article is a reminder of what a great magazine SI once was and how it's a shell of itself now.by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Cornell's Sprint Football HC stepping down - 3 months ago
I assume the only reason Cornell still has a sprint football team is due to the fact that there are thousands of sprint football alumni who would be upset if Cornell dropped the program. We could probably say the same thing about the regular football program, too.by dbilmes - Other Sports

My nitpick about Vanini is that he uses the word "great" way too many times, making it lose its impact.by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: New Cornell football coach search - 3 months ago
Trotsky Interesting. Miami tight end Cam McCormick said Thursday that he is coming back for a ninth season of college football. He is believed to be the first with a ninth season granted by the NCAA. McCormick’s career was derailed multiple times by season-ending injuries, some of which earned him a medical redshirt from the NCAA, and all players who participated in college athletics in 202by dbilmes - Other Sports

marty Also it looks as if Brown scored with less than 1 second left to beat a team that some people think Sucks. Actually, Brown was ahead 4-3 when it scored that buzzer beater.by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Opponents and Others 2023-24 - 3 months ago
If the CHN app is to be believed, Q scored six goals in the first 8:52 of its game against Princeton, finishing the first period with six goals on 10 SOG. That's a rough stretch for the Princeton goalie/s. I'm hoping they pulled the starter at some point during the onslaught, perhaps after the fourth goal just 5:13 into the game.by dbilmes - Hockey

scoop85 Chris '03 Princeton 79 Cornell 38 Seems not great. Smith’s got to get the hook after this season. Smith's got to go, but not because of this blowout loss to Princeton. Princeton is a dominant program in Ivy women's basketball. Earlier this season, it lost by three points to No. 3 UCLA on the road, lost to Caitlin Clark and Iowa by 9 points, and beat No. 20 Oklahoma. Princeton is goiby dbilmes - Other Sports
Re: ECAC 2024 Discussion Thread - 3 months ago
The only good thing about the ECAC being so mediocore this year is that with the exception of games involving Q, there is a lot of parity in the league. Friday night, for example, Yale gave up the tying goal late to RPI in the third period only to respond with the winning goal just 40 seconds later. Brown, meanwhile, tied Union on an extra-attacker goal with just 26 seconds remaining and then wonby dbilmes - Hockey

scoop85 Clarkson coach was staring down the referees after the game. From what the Cornell announcers said, it sounded like Clarkson thought there should have been an icing call on Cornell on the play leading up to the game-winning goal. In the Clarkson writeup, they thought Daniel should have been called for a penalty for the play in which she stole the puck from the Clarkson player. In any caseby dbilmes - Hockey

Since I didn't feel like driving up to Lake Placid tonight from New Haven, I went to watch Yale play BU instead. Cornell is the only team which has beaten both of them this season. I assume for PWR, it was better for us for BU to win, which they did 6-1. The scary thing was BU was missing three of its stars, all of whom were playing for their respective countries in the U18s. Even so, the talent/by dbilmes - Hockey

tycho RMU was absolutely abysmal from the line, and it cost them badly. RMU was 11-for-23 from the foul line, while Cornell was 20-for-22. In a five-point game, that was the difference.by dbilmes - Other Sports

billhoward Ken711 Cornell vs Robert Morris U. Friday 2:00 PM Maybe they could play in Barton Hall. Players just get up from the exam tables and walk over to the court. I'm sure finals are done by this point. Otherwise, it's a great suggestion.by dbilmes - Other Sports
Re: Womens Basketball - 4 months ago
From the Cornell website on Dayna Smith: In her 18 seasons at the helm of the Big Red program, Smith has led Cornell to unprecedented success. The winningest coach in the history of the program, and the second-longest tenured active women’s basketball coach in the Ivy League, she has raised the bar for the Big Red, making success an expectation among its players, alumni and fans. ugarte Afternoon game against Marist. 15-0 lead, Marist came back to tie at 48 in the third, Cornell pulls away with a 26-13 4th Quarter. 6-5 record so far. It would have been nice if we had been able to defeat Syracuse after building up a 14-point lead. The women's team has been beating a lot of weak teams, so their record will be misleading heading into Ivy play. Yale, on the other hand, has aby dbilmes - Other Sports
Re: 2023-24 MEN'S SCHEDULE - 4 months ago
I didn't want to start a new thread for this, so I put it here. I'm planning on going to North Country in February to watch Cornell play at Clarkson and St. Lawrence. Do I need to buy tickets ahead of time for those games? Is there a Cornell club up there which gets a block of tickets? Any advice on decent restaurants for a pre-game meal? Any advice would be appreciated.by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Cornell football 2023 - upstate NYS football success - 4 months ago
The Washington Post has an excellent series of articles published this week about the state of high school football. Here is an excerpt from the main story: While participation is falling almost everywhere, The Post found, boys in the most conservative, poorest states continue to play high school tackle football at higher rates than those in wealthier and more politically liberal areas.
