Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Cornell v Union - 4 weeks ago
have you ever listened to an interview of someone who got a cochlear implant late in life? one of the hardest challenges is filtering out background noise because they haven't had their whole life to learn which sounds are the relevant ones. here, we are all experienced enough to know the difference and still we can't help but shout back at the noise.by ugarte - Hockey

Trotsky ugarte Trotsky Nice little flick. great aggressive drive at the net and a clean snipe. puck bouncing around in front of Shane more than I'd like but we're doing a good job of sweeping everything away before they get a clean shot in deep. All of this, yes. But we're are playing well. and i think our guys smell blood. they're going to fire on ostman a lot.by ugarte - Hockey

Seger to Penney to tie it up. Great possession, great finish.by ugarte - Hockey

Holy cow RIT cuts it to 3-2, 4:39 left in the second.by ugarte - Hockey
Re: NCAA Tournament 2024 - 4 weeks ago
Based on the intermission look-in at BU-RIT, BU might score 10.by ugarte - Hockey
Re: NCAA Tournament 2024 - 4 weeks ago
Headed to 2OT. Gotta win to take advantage of tired legs... that never seem demonstrably tired in the playoffs the next day tbh, probably due to adrenaline.by ugarte - Hockey

ugarte ugarte UMass PP with 6:54 left, still tied at 1.heading to OT. nobody really getting good chances. this is going to end ugly for someone.UMass giveaway right in front of the net almost cost them but we're 15 minutes into OT and still going.by ugarte - Hockey

BearLover Swampy abmarks Jeff Hopkins '82 upprdeck We didn't need to win the conf title to get in with PWR if we don't blow any one of about 6 other games, ^^This^^ nope. it's the other way around. let's get cause and effect in proper order. Which is to say that bearlover's good takes arrive highly correlated with full eclipses. I actually agree with him. -cause: We punted 6 games.by ugarte - Hockey
Re: NCAA Tournament 2024 - 4 weeks ago
1-1 after 2. Both goals from mucking around the crease on rebounds.by ugarte - Hockey
Re: NCAA Tournament 2024 - 4 weeks ago
No goals for anyone but a strong first period for UMass. Denver more dynamic but UMass a steadier drip drip drip of pressure. Neither goalie had to do anything heroic afaict.by ugarte - Hockey
Re: NCAA regionals in Springfield - 5 weeks ago
my opinion is that cornell got 4/9 votes because Denver is playing a road game in the first round but the voters don't respect UMass enough to send them to the Final Four. I like it though!by ugarte - Hockey

Jeff Hopkins '82 Al DeFlorio Nice TV station recap of the championship: The announcer called him Ca-stang-a. They don't have Italians in Burlington?'erb Brooks Arena funnier to meby ugarte - Hockey

Re: Men’s Basketball 23-24 - 5 weeks ago
arugula It says “his coach” told them. Who’s his coach?Presumably as Associate Head Coach the guy handling those questions is Jacques, but I suppose they could have reached out to anyone on staff. I also saw that Penn's Slajchert is in the portal but I don't remember his class year.by ugarte - Other Sports
Re: Opponents and Others 2023-24 - 5 weeks ago
CU77 You want half of the D1 teams to make the tournament? 25% is already high. Check some other sports. Basketball is 19%.lol there are 16 teams. the 16 seed happens to be 32 in pairwise.by ugarte - Hockey
Re: Opponents and Others 2023-24 - 5 weeks ago
Swampy Iceberg I find it crazy that the committee or whoever is responsible couldn't find another site in the midwestern US. There has to be a ton of better arenas willing to do this event at a tolerable cost. I think it has to do with who the host(s) is (are). In this case, the Midwest Regional is hosted by Lindenwood University and the St. Louis Sports Commission. What's even more surprisiby ugarte - Hockey

Jeff Hopkins '82 Watching the replay of last night's Lehigh Valley versus Bridgeport game. Both Bardreau and Kubiak playing for Bridgeport. Kubiak was referred to as a "veteran player." Really? He's been in the AHL since 2017, so, yeah?by ugarte - Hockey

Scersk '97 ugarte Everything coming up Cornell today! Not only does Vito beat Fix and the NCAA officiating crew, but Henson takes out Gomez at 149, so Cornell finishes in 2nd place! Fantastic! I must admit that I don't follow very closely. Are we a deep team or a young team? Any chinks in the armor of the Penn State juggernaut? Quite a kick in the head that the mantle passed from Iowa toby ugarte - Other Sports
Re: Men’s Basketball 23-24 - 5 weeks ago
Scersk '97 George64 mountainred Over on the basketball-u board, a Princeton poster asserted that the W&M hoops budget is twice that of Cornell's (2mil+ v. 1mil+). So, Brian probably got a nice raise and access to more resources and is in charge of the clear #1 winter sport there. Until Ned arrived, basketball was the premier winter sport. That’s no longer true, and probably won’t beby ugarte - Other Sports
Re: Basking in the glow of #13 - 5 weeks ago
RichH Congratulations to us all, haters and losers included. 2010 seems like forever ago. Heck, the last time our team hoisted the Scotty in Lake Placid, Schaf was holding his kid in his arms and Mudpuddles was a thing. Recent debates about what success markers we value here have been interesting. But these nights are special and the chances to bank them are so fleeting, and if you miss, it’sby ugarte - Hockey
