Re: 2013-2014 Basketball - over at BC - 10 years ago
mountainred scoop85 ugarte billhoward Boston College and Steve Donahue made #2 on the ESPN highlights playing a day later at Georgia Tech (snow). BC goes up 71-70 with :03 to play, Donahue calls time out to settle his team (Tech has none), lets Tech score a long trey to win. BC falls to 6-18. Wow. That's almost a firing offense right there (unless he was worried that his team was about to get a tby nyc94 - Other Sports

When is the last time an Ivy team went winless in league play? Edit: Columbia 2002-2003. Dartmouth in 1964 and 1966 as well.by nyc94 - Other Sports

Harvard beat Dartmouth last night so now one point clinches a shared title and two guarantees it outright.by nyc94 - Hockey
Re: Bracketology - 10 years ago
adamw FYI - it's been a few weeks now that our Pairwise has correctly incorporated all of the new weightings/bonus for this year. And this is the only one that is written by your friend and mine, John Whelan - so have at it. Probably best not to play with the customized Pairwise. Just switching the Dartmouth game from Tie to Win makes Cornell the four seed.by nyc94 - Hockey
Re: Bracketology - 10 years ago
Wisconsin's win moved them up to 11 in Pairwise and in a perfect bracket they would get us in the first round. And BC is the top seed now.by nyc94 - Hockey
Re: HARVARD SUCKS - 10 years ago
Jim Hyla CHN's article: Another Lost Year at Beanpot for Harvard. Donato has distant memories of the last time the Crimson won the tournament; he was a player. That doesn't sound right. Harvard last won in 1993. Donato graduated in 1991. He was on their 1989 team that won the Beanpot.by nyc94 - Hockey
Re: HARVARD SUCKS - 10 years ago
RichH Trotsky The quest for a fourth consecutive Beanpot consolation win begins tonight at 5 pm. Northeastern is 33 PWR slots higher than Harvard so the Crimson actually have an excuse this year. 1993. A newborn baby at the time Harvard last celebrated a championship in this four-team tournament could be watching today's game legally in a bar. Three title game appearances since.by nyc94 - Hockey

Trotsky nyc94 Currently 7 in Pairwise on USCHO.Now at 6. Long time to go, but: 1. Minn 2. BC 3. Qpc 4. Uni ------ 5. FSU 6. Cor 7. Low 8. Mich Like last week would probably put us in Bridgeport with no. 11 Providence as first round opponent with seeding flipped and with Quinnipiac as the one seed. Depends what you would do with Lowell matching up with Northeastern in BC's region.by nyc94 - Hockey
Re: 2014-15 Schedule - 10 years ago
Beeeej nyc94 We don't have to go to a holiday tournament - or at least one before New Year's. The results haven't been that great. In fourteen years I think Cornell has won two games in Estero exactly once. 100% positive we've won it at least four times in its fourteen years, and the randomized average should be 3.5. How many of those were in shootouts? edit: Three. Shootout wins go in thby nyc94 - Hockey
Re: 2014-15 Schedule - 10 years ago
Trotsky RichH nyc94 Am I alone in thinking this tournament has run its course? So that means that you think it got up to running speed at some point, eh? No, you're not alone, but 1) I've already made my bias against Florida clear and 2) somebody pointed out that the predecessor, the Syracuse Hockey Invitational Tournament, was even more dreadfully depressing, and I can't argue against that.by nyc94 - Hockey

Rita Dafatone SCRIVENS From Backhand shelf: * BEN SCRIVENS. Ben Scrivens, man – he set the NHL RECORD for saves in a regular season shutout last night (regulation). 59 saves in a 3-0 win. The Sharks attempted 100 shots on the Oilers net, all told. Damn. Oh, and Taylor Hall had a goal and two assists. Whatever. And there is video. And the NHL.com recap. No additional suspension for Bennett. Mat Bodie gets an extra game suspension in addition to his DQ. In addition to the players that had DQs RPI's Ryan Haggerty and Bo Dolan and Union's Daniel Ciampini get one game.by nyc94 - Hockey
Re: Bracketology - 10 years ago
Trotsky I would think the odds are probably fairly good that one of {Clarkson, Cornell, Yale} will wind up outside. Adds just a little more urgency to the Saturday game. Yale lost to Brown 3-1 last night and drops to 20. Colgate beat Clarkson 3-2 and is now on the bubble at 16. Clarkson holding on at 14 (tie with Notre Dame). After Saturday, Colgate in at 15, Clarkson out at 16. Yale isby nyc94 - Hockey
Re: Bracketology - 10 years ago
Jeff Hopkins '82 nyc94 Yale v. Quinnipiac in the first round? Just to "protect" Minnesota? 1-16 and 3-14 are the natural pairings. The only swap breaks up us versus Union (4-13), and it helps attendance in both regionals, so it makes sense to me. We just need to move up to the 3-band and then it all goes away. 2003 rules: swap Mercyhurst and Yale. Edit: Never mind. Yale is aby nyc94 - Hockey

Re: Cornell at Dartmouth game - 10 years ago
BMac Fuck dartmouth! A few seconds after OT ends, a player clobbers one of our guys who had let up. Totally still for a minute or two, thankfully gets up on his own. Fuck. Dartmouth. From Twitter it sounds like Eric Neiley got a DQ.by nyc94 - Hockey
Re: Ivy Standings - 10 years ago
scoop85 Not too much attention is paid to the Ivy hockey race, but we're now 4-0 -- any idea the last time we started with 4 straight wins in Ivy play? (Trotsky?) I'm guessing perhaps 2002-03. 2-1 start that year. Lost to Dartmouth after wins at Princeton and Yale. I found 4-0 start in 1997-98 and 1995-96. 95-96 went 9-0-1.by nyc94 - Hockey
Re: Bracketology - 10 years ago
jkahn CHN and USCHO have been showing different Pairwise Rankings. Cqn anyone enlighten us as to why they may be different? Differences in calculating RPI. CHN page has this note: This chart is updated as each game result comes in. The final RPI does not currently reflect home/road weighting. USCHO has this to say in the Bracketology column: "In calculation of the index, wins on the rby nyc94 - Hockey

Re: Home Stretch Contest - 10 years ago
Rita Trotsky With all that inconsequential non-conference stuff out of the way, Cornell enters the home stretch with 13 conference games. Here's the contest. Predict the results of all the remaining games and list them here. You'll get 1 point for correctly picking a win or a loss and 2 for picking a tie. ugarte nyc94 ebilmes Harvard really sucks. My main concern is that Harvard's embarrassment will lead to a strong week of practice and an inspired performance on Friday. I know we're not supposed to subscribe to the transitive property in sports but Harvard (5-8-3) managed to beat BU (7-11-2) 7-4. Dartmouth (3-12-2) beat BU 4-2 and Maine (11-7-2) beat BU 7-3. Brown tied BC 3-3 Dartmouth loses to UNH 4-2 Meanwhile NBC Sports is sticking with Penn v. Princeton basketball past 8 PM. Tied at 74 with 19 seconds to play. Edit: Penn won 77-74 which based on their records is quite an upset.by nyc94 - Hockey
