Re: Men's Lax Tournament 2024 - 9 days ago
mike1960 In both Penn games, it seemed to me that Penn figured out a way to neutralize our offense and we didn't a plan B or plan C. There was an exception. In the Ivy tournament, we sent Kelleher to X against a short stick, had him drive to GLE, pass around the top, and then get a good shot on the other side. But we didn't go back to that, or try other things to make the defense scramble. The saby CU77 - Other Sports

Georgetown beats Villanova in a wild Big East championship game, 11-10 OT. Big Red's hopes have dodged the first of 3 bullets. We're all Pennsylvanians now!by CU77 - Other Sports

Georgetown is the only team to have beaten #1 Notre Dame, that may count for more than a couple of points in RPI.by CU77 - Other Sports
Re: Men's Lax Tournament 2024 - 11 days ago
We need Penn, PSU, and Georgetown all to win. If they do, Cornell has a decent shot at the last at-large. Current RPI: 1. Notre Dame 0.7000 2. Duke 0.6710 3. Johns Hopkins 0.6521 4. Syracuse 0.6440 5. Virginia 0.6364 6. Denver 0.6295 7. Maryland 0.6274 8. Penn State 0.6244 9. Penn 0.6142 10. Georgetown 0.6113 11. Princeton 0.6083 12. Cornell 0.6080 13. Yale 0.6038 14. Uncertainty on the attack persists, though, as fifth-year attackman Michael Long did not play or dress for Cornell in its season finale against Dartmouth. Long, who has consistently battled injuries throughout his elongated undergrad, is still a question mark heading into Friday night’s contest. “I hope so,” Buczek said when asked if Long will slot into the lineup for Friday’s game. “The expecby CU77 - Other Sports
Re: Men's Lax Tournament 2024 - game times - 16 days ago
I'm guessing here, but I think the #1 seed playing the late game is a League decision to mitigate the top seed's home-field advantage. When the ILT was at a neutral site, the #1 seed got the advantage of playing the early game. But prior to the switch to neutral NYC, the #1 seed always played the late game.by CU77 - Other Sports

BearLover So, if margin of victory/loss isn’t part of the selection committee’s criteria, what *is* their criteria? And why in the world would it be preferable to going purely based off of RPI? Official criteria are pretty goofy (see below), and IMO they are not preferable to straight RPI. Also the committee usually seems to start with straight RPI anyway and then muck around from there, since thby CU77 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2024 - 17 days ago
BearLover I’m having a hard time seeing how Cornell could miss the NCAAs at this point. We are 9th in RPI and there are 18 NCAA spots. We had one bad loss the entire season, vs Penn State; the other three losses were by one goal. We blew a lot of teams out. I don’t see how the committee could leave Cornell out even if we lose next week. How many autobids could go to teams who would not get atby CU77 - Other Sports

Although I am very much not a fan of Corrigan's screamer style, what he has accomplished at ND is impressive. ND was nothing in the lax world when he arrived in 1988. In 2009 (I know, that year does not actually exist for Cornell lax fans), ND went 15-0 in the regular season, and got ... the #7 seed. Then, to prove they didn't deserve better, ND lost to unseeded Maryland in the first round. 2010by CU77 - Other Sports

mike1960 For an ND broadcasting team, I thought they weren't too homerish I thought Booker and George (brothers, cousins of ND coach Kevin) did a great job, far superior to the Quint/Carc clown car. Booker does play-by-play for ESPN (when the clowns are elsewhere) and CBS, and IMO is always very good. Booker's company Corrigan Sports produced the event, which seems to have been a huge success (atby CU77 - Other Sports

I like the Massey ratings, which take into account scores, game location, and recency. The precise formula is not disclosed, but the results comport pretty well with eyeball opinion (given the high uncertainties in that). Ratings are updated daily. Cornell is currently #11. Cornell is #10 in RPI and also in the laxmath power rating (based on goal differential)by CU77 - Other Sports

Chris '03 CU77 chimpfood On the CHN podcast today Adam said that he supports teams being able to host regionals in their own rinks but should only play there if they are a one or two seed.
