Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Gate @ Cornell - 11 years ago
andyw2100The post handshake stuff was instigated by their goalie, Mihalik, who was jawing with Iles pre-handshake and then after making his way through the line aggressively pushed/bumped/shoved one of our guys who had completed the handshake line and was waiting near center ice. I couldn't see too much very clearly after that. Mihalik also fell over on his back as they were leaving the ice. Learby Ben - Hockey
Re: Red Cast Really Sucks - 11 years ago
Kyle Rose Slightly off-topic, I hope that Princeton player is all right. Collisions with the boards were responsible for all three of my major injuries playing hockey: I respect and fear them. I was in B with a friend and we were both appalled by how long it took to get the player off. It must have been a half-hour before they finally got her to the ambulance.by Ben - Hockey
Re: Cornell and Monmouth in football - 11 years ago
Swampy Ken711 jeff '84 Looks like 41-38 Cornell. Minute left. What happened to Matthews? Neck injury from the Harvard game. The Press newspaper said he was day to day but was improving, and being this was a non-conference game probably wise to let him heal fully before the start of the 5 remaining Ivy on the schedule. Nice to know his backup can put up Matthews-like numbers. Do you suppoby Ben - Other Sports
Re: Men's soccer off to 8-0 start - 11 years ago
Thomas LarsonThis undefeated run has to end soon, right? DON'T SAY THAT WHY WOULD YOU SAY THAT -edit- That sounded angrier than it should have. Either way, defeatism is punishable by death. Yale is next, they're pretty mediocre.by Ben - Other Sports
Re: Women's Preseason - 11 years ago
Jim Hyla Announcement of the Red/White game. It's almost here. There's also an exhibition game on Friday against Brampton (from the CWHL). Skating in anger for the first time on the sacred ice this season.by Ben - Hockey

Re: Men's soccer off to 8-0 start - 11 years ago
Josh '99 The men ran their record to 9-0 with a 3-2 win over Penn in the Ivy opener. Worst performance I've seen this year. Sloppy passing, way too direct, and terrible set pieces. But Penn didn't create many chances, and we won. Harvard away is next.by Ben - Other Sports
Re: Men's soccer off to 8-0 start - 11 years ago
Thomas Larson So apparently men's soccer is undefeated and number 22 in the country? Anyone following this team at all? I've been to three of the four home games so far (I missed Wofford). They're good in pretty much every area. Maybe could use a bit more bite in midfield, but they play nice stuff and they've been very successful.by Ben - Other Sports
Re: Cornell's Mount Rushmore - 11 years ago
Nobody from the women's team? My four for that side would be: Hines, Degidio, Derraugh, Johnston. Strong case for Mazz as well (or waiting for the current team to graduate).by Ben - Hockey

Re: Generic Off Season Thread - NCAA rules changes - 11 years ago
billhowardThey're good enough for RS games in the NHL and they might be good for college hockey, too. 4x4 opens up the ice and might put a team of big lugs ("defense oriented"?) at a disadvantage. The NHL overtime and shootout rules are gimmicks designed to get more highlights on SportsCenter. Play normal hockey for 60 minutes, if the scores are level, it's a tie.by Ben - Hockey
Re: Generic Off Season Thread - NCAA rules changes - 11 years ago
Rita billhoward Jim Hyla Latest from USCHO on possible rules changes. The NCAA wants fewer tie games but doesn't want to go to 4x4 in OT or have shootouts. So the only thing left is 10- or 20-minute OTs ... and more wear on players. If Cornell is a defense-minded team, then playing 4x4 in OT would seem like playing on an Olympic sheet and not be to our style. What is wrong with a hard fought tiby Ben - Hockey

I'm going to guess that Anna Zorn is related to Liz Zorn '10. Also good to see that we'll have a full complement of defensemen for next year.by Ben - Hockey

nyc94 French Rage kingpin248 After a couple of slight tweaks, and in a close vote, the Faculty Senate approved the new calendar, sending it to President Skorton for approval. Does this whole thing scream "solution in search of a problem" to anyone else? jtn27 Trotsky scoop85 Jim Hyla Once again we see how bad a bench coach Harvard has. (Terrible sentence, sorry) I generally agree with that sentiment, although they did just pound us 6-1.Did that happen? I'm not sure that actually happened. It didn't happen. Re: Slope Day on Wednesdays - 12 years ago
css228 French Rage Are two days off in February really necessary? February never seemed that bad to me. I'm assuming it would be President's Day weekend? As a student, this calendar seems more, not less, stressful. I agree. A shorter reading period and the same number of exams in fewer days is going to make the end of term more stressful. If it ain't broke....by Ben - John Spencer Is Dead
Re: Cornell Alumni in the Pros: April 2012 - 12 years ago
marty KeithK Of course not. Taft is dead. So although dead people vote it is inappropriate to vote for the dead? Article II doesn't actually specify that candidates for President must be alive.by Ben - Hockey
Re: Embellishment - 12 years ago
billhoward Absolute truth. Perfect use for post-game video reviews by the commissioner. There's one 80-year-old Briton or Spaniard who controls the World Cup and Formula One. Get to him. Sepp Blatter, the President of FIFA, is Swiss, and Jean Todt, the head of the FIA, is French. You must be thinking of Bernie Ecclestone, who was high up in F1 but whose only involvement with football was as majoby Ben - Other Sports
Re: National Collegiate Hockey Conference - 12 years ago
MattS jtn27I seriously doubt the women's team will ever sell out. They had a decent showing this year for the playoffs, but I went to a few regular season games too and Lynah was mostly empty and almost completely devoid of students. I can't see the women's team getting many more fans than it did for the playoffs this year. While I too doubt that the women could consistantly or even frequentlyby Ben - Hockey

Re: 2012-13 Schedule - 12 years ago
Jim Hyla Aaron M. Griffin Jim Hyla No those jokes wouldn't work, as we don't refer to ourselves as the Cornell university, and even in the charter "the" was not capitalized. To my mind that means it is not part of our name. I know that Ohio (State) has the penchants for capitalizing the article in its name which is laughable, but Cornell's charter does state: To establish the Corneby Ben - Hockey

css228 snert1288 I don't agree. I am very happy for Union. They looked really good in both of their games and outplayed their opponents. They deserved to make the FF. I have met some of the terrible Union fans and had things thrown at me when walking by their student section, but overall, I think Union doing well benefits the ECAC greatly. Re: Season Review - 12 years ago
ajh258 Great way to end my senior year season. I was kind of upset initially after the loss, but now have realized there is nothing to be disappointed about or ashamed of. Hope to see all of you at future games as an alumnus. Thanks you for these unforgettable years.
